‘ Mummy, I really need to leave now. My mother’s involved in an accident and she’s in the intensive care unit as we speak. I promise to return on time’ she said while requesting for a ride from Uber.

‘ Let me take you there. Remember you didn’t come with your car.’ Daniel suggested.

‘ Daniel, I want to do this by myself. I have ordered Uber already and will get here in less than 5 minutes. I’m grateful you’ve been of help to me, but please I feel the need to see my mother alone. I promise to fill you in on the situation of things.’ she said and left immediately without waiting for Daniel or her father’s response.

After Anu had left, Daniel and madam Cynthia had the following conversation

‘so you actually remarried and even went as far as having another baby despite the fact that I told you then not to marry any man again. Have you no shame? Having five children for different men?’ he said angrily

‘ I’m sorry son, but I love Femi and also I can’t remain lonely for ever at such a young age’ madam Cynthia replied.

‘ can you just hear yourself? At young age? You keep distributing your seeds everywhere you go. All your children do not have good relationship because of your shameful acts. Mummy, you are just a disgrace to womanhood. Even when I try to hate you less, you’ve eventually succeeded in making me hate you completely.’ Daniel said in agony

‘ Will you stop talking to my wife like that? I don’t know what transpired between you then but this woman here is a good woman and I will not stand here and watch you haul anymore insultive words at her. I won’t.’ Femi said angrily.

‘ You can defend her all because she’s been good to you. At least your child will grow up to know you as her father unlike the rest of us who have no idea of who our father is’ Daniel shot back at Femi.

‘ tell me he isn’t saying the truth, please tell me he’s lying. You told me your children are with their father oversees. Debunk his lies right now? Femi said to Cynthia.

‘ I’m sorry to tell you that Daniel is saying the truth. I used to live a not so good life before but sincerely I’m a changed person. I’m so sorry Femi mi’ she said crying.

‘Oh my God’ that was all Femi could alter as he placed his hands and head on the wall.

‘ now that you know the truth sir, can you please ask your wife to tell me who my father is for the sake of this new born child that has no sin yet?’ Daniel said looking at Femi and then his mother.

‘ You heard the young man, woman who is his father?’ Femi said with a look that pierced Cynthia’s heart like a sword.

‘ It’s you Femi, you are Daniel’s Father’ she dropped the bombshell stuttering

‘ Whaaaat!’ Femi and Daniel screamed simultaneously

At this instant, a nurse came into the ward and politely asked Femi and Daniel to take their leave as they are disturbing their patient who needed rest.

Femi and Daniel left the ward and each kept pacing in the hospital’s vicinity.

Daniel later left the hospital for his home after he had calmed down. He turned off his mobile phone as he didn’t want to speak with anybody.

The fact that He had been holding in love with his step sister makes things even difficult for him.

‘ if she’d told me about my root, I wouldn’t have found myself in this mess. How do I get over this hurt, how do I?’ he thought as he kept crying.

‘who is there?’ Daniel asked as he heard the doorbell rang.

He went to the door and found Anu standing.

‘ what’s wrong with you? Why did you turn off your phone and why are you looking like this? I went to check on my mom and you didn’t even bother to ask about her condition? Why are you looking and acting like this? Talk to me Daniel’ Anu bombarded him with questions.

It was obvious Anu didn’t know yet that Daniel is her step brother.

‘ since you have suddenly gone dumb, first thing first, you need to have your bath and then convince me on why you had to care less about me in the past two days’ she said as she pushed him to the bathroom.

After Daniel had his bath and looked a bit better, he told Anu that they needed to see madam Cynthia and Femi. Anu told Daniel about her mother’s condition while he drove to her home.

‘ What’s happening Dan? What’s the matter’ why are you not saying anything?’ Anu asked and yet was met with another round of silence.

Daniel’s heart burns within as he watched the love of his life, who had become his sister talked and he was unable to respond. How how much it hurts.

They got to the Joseph’s place and had to go to the hospital as madam Cynthia was yet to be discharged.

Luckily for them, Femi was present.

Femi narrated to Anu how he just discovered that Daniel is his son and her brother. Anu fell to the ground and wept bitterly.

Madam Cynthia spoke

I’m sorry for what I caused, and I’m willing to tell you every detail of my past.

‘Femi had always been the man I have loved and will always love. But unfortunately, he was inlove with someone else then. I tried everything I could to get him for myself but all to no avail. I seduced him and we had sexual intercourse but still he wouldn’t leave Abike for me. My father’s boss then asked my dad if he would allow me to marry his son, Emmanuel who was returning to Nigeria to get a wife. My parents saw this as an opportunity for them and they insisted I marry him. I didn’t have a choice then but to marry him when he returned. Sincerely speaking, I never knew I was with a child already. Emmanuel and I became a couple and we left Nigeria three days after my wedding.

‘ When he discovered that I was pregnant and he wasn’t responsible, he started treating me like thrash. He never stopped even when I gave birth to you, Daniel. It was during this period that I find solace in our neighbor, a white. I became pregnant again for yet another man instead of my husband. Emmanuel’s cruelty reduced greatly as he thought the child I was carrying was his.

Emmanuel got to know after reading the text our neighbor sent to me regarding his children, because I was carrying twins.

He went into cardiac arrest and I watched him slip into the cold hands of death. I would have helped him but I knew if I did, that would be my end.

I left US for Canada years later but left the twins with their father.

I had another child for a Canadian and then I decided to come back to Nigeria some years later. I couldn’t tamper with your education over there so I left you Daniel with one of my trusted friend.

I had made a lot of money, and getting down to Nigeria I dived in oil and gas industry which became a huge success.

Daniel, you didn’t like me a lot and you preferred to stay at your space. You didn’t even let me know when you came to Nigeria for you post graduate studies. I know you were against me re-marrying but I really loved Femi and I forged ahead to marry him without your approval which in turn widen the gap between us. I’m sorry I made you fall in love with your sister please do forgive me’.

Madam Cynthia narrated as she cried silently.

The whole story was touching and they all wept for themselves and Madam Cynthia.

They all forgave her and hugged her one after the other.

‘ I have a confession to make’ madam Cynthia said while Femi, Daniel and Anu looked at her at the same time with surprise.

‘ There’s nothing to worry about. I just want to let you know that I have changed the ownership of my companies and properties, into your name, my darling husband Olufemi Joseph as a prove of my undying love for you’.
