Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 3

‘Daddy, where did you get money to prepare this food na, won’t you answer me?’ Anu asked her father again.

‘ you should have asked before eating it. I prepared it when I saw you didn’t prepare anything.’ her father replied.

‘ I didn’t ask who prepared it because I know you are a good cook. I learnt cooking from you, remember. And I hate the food without questions because I thought that was my last supper. Baba mi, tell me how you got the money please cos I could remember you gave me your last dime in the morning’ she said smiling.

‘ I am tired and I need to sleep now. I was mentally stressed out while waiting for you. And remember, you have a work to attend tomorrow. Goodnight and sleep well, my child’ Baba said with finality in his tone.

‘But…’ she was interrupted

‘ good night, Ewa’ he said as he walked to his room shutting the door behind him.

‘ Thank you Lord for tonight, I’m really happy to undo now that my father loves me.’ Anu said

She lied on the bed after she had her bath, wishing there’s any pain relief she could use for her body aches.

She said some prayers, thanking God about her family and hoping the positive change in her family will be permanent.

‘why did baba find it difficult to tell me how he made this money? I hope he didn’t get involved in any shady deed so as to make us happy’ these were are thoughts before she finally slept off.

In Baba’s room

‘I didn’t do anything bad, did I? I can’t just sit and watch my children suffer for life. My daughter, with national diploma had to work in an Amala joint just to provide for us… God so help me raise this children well, Abike will beg for tears when she ever sees them. Oh, she’ll definitely pay with her tears. Oh Abike, I will make you pay.’ Baba soliloquized on his bed.

Earlier that day

Baba could be described as a jack of all trades. He has ventured into all kinds of work ranging from carpentry, electrician, bricklaying and so on.

Baba had gone to a site where he was directed to that morning. He was penny less and hungry . Luckily for him, he was employed and to be paid #1,500 daily. He hasn’t worked for up to 1hour when the owner of the building arrived.

‘Who I’m I seeing? Madam Cynthia the owner of the building exclaimed.

Every laborer in the sight stopped immediately and kept their gaze on Madam Cynthia to see who she was actually referring to.

‘ Femi mi, Femi, it’s me Cynthia’ she said as Baba, couldn’t recognize her.

Madam Cynthia went to Baba (Femi) and gave him a hug not minding his filthy state. It was then Femi recollected her face.

Femi, Abike and madam Cynthia all lived in the same neighborhood. While Femi was inlove with Abike, Cynthia was inlove with him.

Cynthia did everything possible then, to get Femi to herself but it never worked although Femi had sexual intercourse with her once.

‘where have you been all these while and why are you looking like this ‘ madam Cynthia enquired.

‘ it’s really a long story that time will not permit me to share. Also, the manager will not feel good when he sees me speaking with you for this is my first day at work’. Femi replied.

‘ Forget about this work, we need to talk’ she said dragging him along.

‘You really need a bath and a change of clothes cos you stink’ she said rudely.

After washing off his body, Madam Cynthia took him to a beautiful restaurant where they both talked at length.

Femi narrated how life has been and how difficult things are for him.

‘ You don’t need to tell me you are suffering, it’s very obvious even the blind can see how poor you are’ she said

Cynthia also told him how her love her love life had been. Her husband is late and the feelings she had for Femi then have been rekindled.

‘ I hope you won’t mind if I ask you to be my man, and watch as things that should have been eventually unfold?’ she asked Femi.

‘Give me time to think about it.’ Femi replied.

They left the restaurant much later. She withdrew the sum of #50,000

‘this will aid your thinking’ she said and handed the money to him before dropping him off at the bus stop.

Poverty would not make Femi think clearly even as he started think almost immediately she left.

‘ I have nothing to loose if I take this offer, maybe this is just the Lord’s doing. 50k, to aid my thinking. I will sure call her tomorrow so as not to appear desperate.’ he thought

Present

I’m sure calling Cynthia tomorrow.

“What Baba did not know is that Cynthia had her children for different men”.
