Excuse me please’ Femi said as he took Cynthia’s hand and both went to their room.

‘ We agreed on no child(ren), so what’s this rubbish you’re saying? Femi questioned Cynthia

‘ Well, I didn’t plan for it as well, but the family planning system have been using for a while failed me. And since we’ve been happy together, I felt that there’s no big deal if we keep the child considering the fact that we have more than enough to take care of plus one.’ she said convincingly

‘ you should have told me when you needed a child, instead you were busy thinking that that I wouldn’t mind if we have a child. Do you think it’s just material things that helps raise a child? I am not ready for this, not now or anytime soon so you had better find a means of getting rid of it’ Femi said bluntly and left the room with his car keys.

‘whats wrong with this man? Why he’s he fussing over my child? I’ve been taking care of of your children but you don’t want to take care of just this one I’m having for you? You must be joking as I see nothing that will make me terminate this baby’ Cynthia said angrily.

In the sitting room

‘ why are you guys acting like this? Referring to Anu and his father. Is this not what we have been hoping for? God has finally blessed this marriage fruitfully and I’m about to be a big brother soon. We should be celebrating sister, cos I’m so happy for Mummy (madam Cynthia). This addition will surely complete this family…’ Segun was saying before Anu cuts in

‘ Will you just shut up already? What do you know about addition, completion and happiness? Sometimes you talk like a baby even at 18, making me doubt you birth certificate. Don’t you know that this is the beginning of the downfall of this family? Don’t you know that the love and care you get from madam Cynthia will stop immediately she has her own child? Why don’t you just use your head for once and act like a man that you should be and not a dummy.’ Anu said hissing out loudly as she left Segun alone in the sitting room.

‘ these people are really selfish o, after all mummy has done for us, they do not care about her happiness. When did Anu become like this, or was it poverty that hid her true character in the past? I am happy to have a brother soon and they are angry about it. Well, that’s their problem they can’t make me hate what I like’ Segun said as he left for madam Cynthia’s room

Segun knocked and waited for response before allowing himself to madam Cynthia’s room.

‘i’m really happy you’re with a baby and I can’t wait to have a kid bro. I know that daddy is not in support, but I beg you to give in sometimes as he will realize soon what a treasure you are carrying in your womb. I love you wholeheartedly and not because you transformed our lives but because you are a good woman with the heart of gold. Do not relent on being good and you will see how things will eventually work in your favor at the end’ Segun said comfortingly.

‘ I am so relieved by your words, Segun. I never knew you loved me this much. I only loved you guys because I have always loved your father since when we were Young and also because he brought you both up uprightly. But now, I must confess I love you now truly for your matured way of understanding things. Thank you my son, I really appreciate your time and effort in this issue. I will like to have some rest now, thanks once again. Cynthia said relieved.

Anu and Segun later left for school. Madam Cynthia loaded them with money as usual but this time, Segun’ share was larger for she has loved Segun dearly.

Even when Anu was asked to receive lectures from home to school, she declined saying she didn’t want to miss any form of being a student. Anu stayed at Moremi hostel and lived a big girl life on campus. There’s constant money inflow, so it was easy for her to maintain her big girl status without dating aristos like some other ladies do. She focused greatly on her studies and only came home when she had break in school.

‘So this woman is still pregnant?’ Anu thought when she saw madam Cynthia’s protuded tummy.

Although things were cold at home, but Anu cared less about it.

She has made friends so even during her break period, she seldom stay at home.

There’s been a big gap between madam Cynthia and Femi since she refused to terminate the pregnancy. Femi has even suggested they move to the island, in one of madam Cynthia’s property that she had signed the ownership to him.

Madam Cynthia although accepted, but she wants the move to be when she’s eight months gone and Femi agreed.

Break period was over and Anu returned to school. She had left her hostel to seat at the lagoon front with her friend Joy. Luckily for them, the sun wasn’t much.

‘Hello ladies, I hope you wouldn’t mind if I join you’ a guy named Daniel asked Anu and Joy.

‘of course, we won’t mind.’ Joy said rather hastily.

While sitting, Daniel introduced himself and the ladies did the same.

‘ I think I’ve met you before’ Daniel told Anu

‘ Yes, you might have. Unilag is just like a small village yo know’ Anu replied jokingly taking time to carefully look at him.

‘This guy is too cute o, and gosh, I love his foreign accent. I wouldn’t mind having him as my first boyfriend’ Anu thought.

‘Hello dear’ Daniel said calling Anu’s attention.

‘i’m with you’ Anu replied even when she’s not truly there in mind.

It seems she has really falling in love for the first time.

Daniel told Anu more about himself, while joy excused them when she realized Daniel wanted more of Anu’s company.

Daniel Jacobs is a post graduate student in Unilag. He had always seen Anu at Huskies and had loved her at first sight although he purposely choose to skip that part. They talked and acted as if they’ve known each other for long. Joy on the other hand was happy that her friend has just gotten a boyfriend even when Daniel hasn’t poured out his intentions.

Days rolled into weeks,and into months while their friendship became stronger. Daniel asked her out and the Anu accepted making her Daniel’s girlfriend

Back at home, the Joseph’s had moved to the island. Although , there’s still tension in the home, but it has reduced since Segun would never stop calling and talking to his father, Femi.

Madam Cynthia will be due for delivery in two weeks time.

At Abike’s end

‘ Are you going to sit, doing nothing while you let that Cynthia have the last laugh’ Adetoun asked Abike her friend.

‘What do you want me to do nau. Femi had refused me to see my children and Segun been the man he is will not let me come closer to them.’ she replied her friend.

‘you are just too weak, I swear. Cynthia of all people took what belongs to you and you’re telling me Femi this. Don’t you know that Cynthia is behind Femi’s action. She stole your husband and your children. You’re here in this big house living like a barren whereas your children are calling one thief mummy.’ Adetoun said

‘What do I do now, tell me, I am ready to do anything to get my children and husband back’ she asked

‘ Now you are talking. This is the spirit dear. We are going to get back what belongs to you, ok?’ Adetoun said asking if truly she’s ready to embark on the journey.

‘ I am ready, Adetoun. I am ready to get back my family and I don’t mind what it will cost me’ Abike said as she grinned.
