Makamba, a beautiful girl who lived in the interior part of calabar south. At 19 she already had suitors who wanted her hand in marriage which made her step mother angry and jealous. Her step mother who was the first wife of her father already had 5 children (3 females and 2 males). Her females are older than Makamba but no responsible man they have brought home.

Takon, a 30years old prominent business man, was more than ready to get married to Makamba. He promised to further her education since she stopped at ss2, Makamba hearing such Promise agreed to marry him despite the age difference. The visit and gifts poured by Takon to Makamba and her mother was something her stepmother could not hold it anymore. She had to act fast and stop the insult as she felt they were insulting her by giving her some of the gifts as the senior wife.

She didn’t waste time to visit a strong native doctor who will help scatter the wedding that is about taking place. “What do you want me to do to her?”, Baba asked. ” I want her to die Baba, just finish her. That girl has been insulting me enough and her useless mother is contributing also”, Aniebiet said. “Hmmmm but I’m seeing an innocent girl with a clean hands”, Baba told her. ” ah Baba, I’m the one staying with them, so I understand better, after all I will pay you for the job”, Aniebiet insisted. “Let me have her picture and any of her belonging”, Baba said which she quickly brought out her picture and a bra from her handbag and handed it to him. ” and a fifty thousand naira” Baba added. “Ah baba! She went home and counted the money she had, it was only N20,000 both home and abroad. She sat down and thought about it, ” if I kill Makamba now, her mother mouth will be shut and the wedding preparations will be over. But, will N5,000 feed me and my children? Abasi akan! Evening came and her 3rd daughter was seen searching for something at the backyard. “Ime what are you looking for that you’ve left the food to burn”, Aniebiet shouted on her. She ran to the fireplace and brought down the food, “I’m looking for my bra”, she replied scattering the firewood. ” which bra is that?, Aniebiet asked. “I hanged my bra this morning before I left to work but it’s not there again”, Ime complained. Look for it well and don’t burn my food because of one stupid bra, Aniebiet said and went inside troubled. ” so I would have killed my daughter today o! Oh God, which of the things I gave will Baba start from? Let it be the picture please”, she prayed silently.
