Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 78
“Don’t.” Ivory pressed both hands against his chest, trying uselessly to stem the flow of blood soaking hot and dark across her palms. “Don’t you dare, don’t you DARE say goodbye to me right now, Duane, stay with me, please, PLEASE stay with me—”
He coughed, more blood welling at the corner of his mouth, and his eyes, still fixed on hers, had already begun to lose their focus.
“Please,” Ivory sobbed, fumbling desperately for her phone, hands shaking so violently she nearly dropped it twice, dialing with blood-slicked fingers. “Please, someone, we need an ambulance, please, he’s been shot, he’s been shot, please HURRY—”
She dropped the phone the second the call connected, both hands returning immediately to his chest, to his face, cradling him as gently as she could manage while her whole body shook.
“Stay with me,” she begged, tears falling so fast she could barely see him anymore. “Stay with me, please, I can’t— I can’t do this without you, please, Duane, please—”
His hand found hers weakly, fingers curling around her blood-soaked palm with what little strength remained in him.
“My addiction, I love you so… so much, you. are the only girl that has ever made mw feel this wat” he murmured, the ghost of a smile somehow finding its way to his lips even now, even like this.
Then his hand went slack in hers.
His eyes slid shut.
The wound in his chest kept pouring, dark and endless, pooling beneath him on the cold pavement, and his chest, which had been rising and falling in short, desperate gasps only seconds before, went suddenly, terribly still.
“Duane?” Ivory’s voice came out impossibly small. “Duane. DUANE. Wake up. WAKE UP,
please, DUANE—”
He didn’t answer.
She screamed then — a sound that didn’t feel like it belonged to her, raw and shattering, tearing up out of some place inside her she hadn’t known existed until this exact moment — and she screamed and screamed, rocking over his still body in the empty parking lot, blood soaking through her dress, through her hands, through everything she had left, while somewhere in the distance, sirens finally, finally began to wail.
