Seven Months Later – A Grand Hall

The hall stood as the largest and most opulent in all of Creston — a soaring structure of white marble and gold trim, chandeliers dripping crystal light down over a sea of the city’s wealthiest, most powerful people. Outside, the driveway curved beneath a canopy of trees strung with soft lights, rows of gleaming luxury cars parked in careful formation.

Inside, guests moved like water through the space, silk and jewels catching the light with every step.

At the very front, seated in the VVIP section, Arthur and Diana held hands, five months into their new status as trillionaires following the finalized Hale partnership, sharing a quiet smile before facing forward again.

Across the aisle, the Hales sat in matching splendor, radiant with a joy that had nothing to do with wealth at all.

Nearby, Abigail cradled her one-month-old son against her chest, the baby’s face a near-perfect echo of Tyler’s, save for the pointed nose and small mole on his left cheek he’d clearly inherited from her.

Celeste sat among the honored guests too, resplendent in a gown that suited her new station perfectly — three eateries to her name now, a multibillionaire in her own right, the Hale family’s connections having opened doors she’d never dreamed existed. Duane had told her months ago, quietly, that Ivory had been her anonymous benefactor from the very beginning, and Celeste had cried and thanked her a dozen times since, unable to fully express what that kindness had meant.

Peter sat several rows back, invited grudgingly, still asking for forgiveness nearly every week now. A part of Celeste wanted to give it. A larger part still wasn’t ready.

The music shifted.

Every head in the hall turned as one toward the entrance, and a collective breath seemed to catch across the entire room.

Ivory stood at the top of the aisle in a gown that defied easy description — elegant, ethereal, sculpted perfectly to her figure, and beside her, Duane, standing tall in a tailored black suit, looking like the very definition of the word handsome, as though the dictionary itself had simply given up trying to describe him with anything less than his own photograph.

They walked toward each other, meeting halfway, hands clasping, smiles mirrored perfectly across their faces. Duane slid one hand gently to the small of her waist, fingers brushing lightly across the faintest, not-yet-visible curve of her stomach.

The crowd erupted.

“GO BRO!” Ariel shouted first, on his feet, clapping wildly, Arielle right beside him in matching designer elegance as best man and best lady.

“HANDSOME BRO!” Hazel screamed from her seat beside Luis, who dabbed at his own eyes, overwhelmed.

“Dearest brother,” Luis said thickly, tears of pure joy sliding freely down his face. Hazel reached over and wiped them away before they could fall, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.

“They look so STUNNING, oh my GOD,” Hannah declared dramatically from somewhere in the crowd, hand pressed to her chest. “I wanna DIE.”

“Better not die, Han,” Henri teased from beside her, one of her coworkers from Este’s. “I want to keep seeing that pretty face of yours.”

“You’re silly,” Hannah pouted, though she didn’t pull her hand away when he reached under the table and held it. Hannah had been released six months earlier, once Sloane’s own worker had finally turned on her, revealing the whole scheme — Sloane now serving time in the very cell that had once held Hannah.

Ivory and Duane reached the front, and the officiant began, the vows unfolding slowly, tenderly, until it came time for Duane to recite his.

“My addiction,” he added at the end, voice thick with emotion, and the crowd let out a collective, delighted gasp.

“My eternity,” Ivory replied, and Duane’s composure nearly broke entirely.

They exchanged rings, and then, finally, kissed — slow and certain, the kind of kiss that made the entire hall erupt into applause all over again.

“So all this started under my roof,” Arthur joked loudly, and Diana laughed beside him, leaning into his shoulder.

Duane broke the kiss briefly, leaning in to whisper something against her ear that made Ivory’s cheeks flush deep red — “You look too hot. Your legs are not safe tonight” — before pressing his forehead to hers, noses brushing, and claiming her lips again in something far hungrier than the first kiss had been.

“They’re TOO romantic, please, I’m going to faint,” Ariel groaned, and Arielle promptly smacked the back of his head.

“You know my girl mustn’t see you drooling over another couple like that,” he complained, rubbing his skull.

“Of course,” Arielle said sweetly. “She’s a jealous ass.”

“Didn’t know my elder sister was that bad,” Abigail commented from her seat, bouncing her son gently.

“Oh, she’s terrible,” Hazel called, passing by their table with a grin. “She used to sneak into his room every single night.”

Tyler couldn’t hold back his laughter.
