The Enemy Within, Episode Fifteen

"I got a call from the Unite States of America today." Clara said to Uche when they came back from the restaurant. They were in Uche's room. While Uche was taking his bathe, Clara was in bed waiting for him.

"I hope it is good news?" Uche asked as he turned off the shower over his head. He picked up a towel and mopped his body thoroughly.

"I don't know if it is good news. The date for my

induction into the legal profession has been

rescheduled. You know it was supposed to hold

in six months time. I have been told to be in the

United States next week. I don't like traveling

without adequate preparation. I have only five

days to get ready for the event." Clara said. She

sounded unhappy as she did not know what to

expect from Uche. She wanted a definite answer

from him so as to be sure that his heart is now

with her. She also wanted to be sure that Chizi

and Mike will not follow them to the United

States.

"Why are you thinking twice about it? This is good news and I absolutely love it. This will give us the opportunity to get married in the US. It has always been my dream to get married in America. I will proceed to inform my father and mother immediately. All of us already have visas. What is remaining is for us to book our flights and we will be on our way next week." Uche said as he jumped up in the room, jubilating as if he had won an important victory.

"In fact, I will personally book our flights this night. Please, prepare your mind.

Congratulations my love! I'm so happy I will be getting married to a fully trained lawyer. I'm a proud man. This is the best news I have heard today. Please, give me some minutes, I need to talk to my parents about this great development." Uche said as he made to leave the room. But before he opened the door, Clara stood up from the bed and held him back. She had some questions agitating her mind and she wants some answers.

"What about Chizi and Mike? Are they going to travel with us?" Clara asked with suspicion

"What about Chizi and Mike? Are they going to travel with us?" Clara asked with suspicion written all over her face. She wanted to be sure that Chizi and Mike are no longer part of the plan. She wanted to be sure that Uche is no longer implementing the earlier plan they hatched together.

"Why are you mentioning Chizi and Mike? My love, you are dragging me back to my past. I'm no longer in communication with Mike and Chizi. My heart is with you now. They are not coming with us to America. Our wedding is a family affair and Chizi and Mike are not part of our family the last time I checked. Please, wait for me in the bed, let me break the good news to my father and mother." Uche said and dashed out of the room.

"Mum and dad, I need you two to do me a huge favour." Uche said as soon as he made it to his father's living room. He was watching the 8pm news with his wife.

"What favour do you want son? Just name anything you want, we will do it for you without

a second thought. Do you want more money for your wedding plans? Do you want a new car? Or do you want the wedding to hold in Dubai? Just mention anything you want and consider it done." Mr Oko said. His wife nodded her head in agreement. The two of them love Uche dearly and they are always ready to make him happy.

"I don't want more money. I just got the news that Clara will be inducted into the legal profesion in the United States next week. I want the two of you to travel to America to stand by her." Uche tells his parents.

"Is that all?" His father asked.

"No dad. I also want us to use that opportunity to get married in USA. I want us to have our court wedding over there. We can then observe our traditional and church wedding when we return to Nigeria." Uche responded.

"Please, go ahead and book our flights. It will be our pleasure to be there to support your fiancée and to also witness your wedding in the US." His father responded.

"I will make the needed arrangements for the journey dad. Thank you very much for always being there for me." Uche said and returned to his room to meet Clara.

"What was their response?" Clara asked Uche as soon as he entered the room.

"They have agreed to attend. Please, inform your father so that he will not be taken unawares. Make sure you let him know that we are going to have our wedding in the United States. I will also visit him and convince him." Uche said as he fell on the bed and held Clara closely.

"I'm so happy right now. I mean, what else can a woman ask for? I can't wait to be a lawyer and I can't wait to be your wife. This is the dream I have hard since I was a child.

"Congratulations my love. I'm so happy for you and I can't wait to see you start practicing law. Now that I'm the fiancée to a lawyer, I can go ahead and start looking for trouble. Anyone who finds my trouble would be dragged to court and put to jail by my learned wife.

As they were rejoicing on the bed, nature soon kicked in. Uche's body started behaving anyhow without control. Clara too was out of control. Before one could say Jack Robinson, the did what they should have not done. Clara loved it so much because it is what she has always wanted. She has always wanted Uche to touch her and today, she succeeded.

The next morning, Uche secretly called Chizi with another phone which Clara does not have access to.

"Hire a wedding gown. Don't border making a new one. Just hire a gown that is your size and wait for further instructions from me. Don't tell anyone about this." Uche said to Chizi.
