The Enemy Within, Episode Thirteen

"But let me ask you a question and I want you to give me an honest answer. Were you thinking that Uche and Clara will stay together in the same room without making a move on each other? I mean, both of them are young and active. Were you thinking nothing would happen between the two of them?" Mike asked Chizi as soon as they got home that evening. Chizi suddenly developed a serious hunger, so she had gone to the kitchen to dish the remaining part of the egusi soup she made the other day. She also made eba for herself. After consuming the food, she then regained her energy and had the power to respond to Mike's question.

"I don't know what I was thinking. But I guess, I just had to hold on to something. I trusted Uche with all my heart. I was thinking nothing would happen between him and Clara because he gave me his word. I mean, what is love without trust? I had to place my trust on him. But I gusse I was wrong. It was a mistake to have trusted him." Chizi said as she struggled to hold back tears. In fact, not long after, Mike could see tears rolling down her chicks, so he gave her a handikerchief to wipe her tears.

the only man I have been with all my life. I don't know how to love another man. I feel as if I have been used and dumped by the man I love. My heart is broken. If I had known that I would meet Clara in Uche's bed, I would not have gone to his house. Only if I had known. Now, I have seen the thing I have always wished not to see. It was a terrible sight and I feel very sad. I never knew Uche could do this." Chizi lamented. Her face turned red and her eyes became bloodshot as she kept crying bitterly.

"They took time to dismantle all the beautiful plans we made. Look at how he was in the room with Clara. But our agreement was for him to stick with me while Clara would stick with you. Now, the whole plan has been scattered. This is terrible and I don't know if I will be able to take all these pain." Chizi said. Because of the level of pain she was expressing, Mike had to come closer to her and hold her tightly trying to cheer her up.

"I might still be wrong. Maybe, I'm imagining things, but I was just being realistic. I was just saying it would be hard for Uche to have stayed with Clara all these while and not have any piece of cake in the bedroom. I'm just talking as a typical man with relationship experience. Please, I want you to lower your expectations in this situation we are in. What I know is that anything could happen because we are all humans. It is only God who makes a promise and sticks to it without breaking your heart. So, please, stop crying. It is still a win win for you because you are now established and your business is doing well. So even if Uche dumps you, you already has something to show for the years of relationship with him." Mike said. Chizi found some of the things he said to be very useful and soothing.

"Thank you for your kind words Mike. It is a good thing that you are here with me today. But the truth is that it was not all about money in the first place. My love for Uche is deep and deeper than the money his family has. I truly love him and it was hurting to see him in the arms of another woman." Chizi continued her lamentations in a way that was so heartbreaking.

"Look, it is even possible that Uche has not broken your trust. He may well have done nothing with Clara. We may just be overreacting because we saw him with towel. So calm down,

it is not over yet. He has promised to come here and explain himself. Let us wait for him." Mike said. Chizi was leaning on him with her head on his chest.

Just then, Uche knocked at the door and Mike asked him to come in because Chizi could barely talk. When Uche came in and saw Chizi's head on Mike's chest, he was hurt. He became jealous but he decided to hide the fact that he was suspecting that something was going on between Chizi and Mike. He just went straight to explain himself to Mike and Chizi.

"First of all, nothing has happened between me and Clara. I mean, we have not done anything in the bedroom. Chizi my love, I have not broken your trust. You are still the one love and you are still the one I'm going to marry." Uche said. By then, Chizi had lifted her head off Mike's chest and was watching Uche closely and listening to what he was saying. She did not know if she should believe or doubt his sincerity.

"Secondly, Clara refused outrightly to release the N10 million she promised to give Mike. She lied that her father froze her account because I have seen her spend millions on clothes and shoes. The bottom line is that she has confessed to me that I'm the person she wants and not Mike. So, she has been making bedroom advances at me but I have resisted her. Please, Chizi, you have to trust me. Nothing happened. I was just coming out of the bathroom when you people came. That was why you saw me in towel." Uche continued.

"Even if I have to believe your story, how are you going to marry me when Clara has gummed herself on you and she is refusing to let go? I guess it is impossible to achieve our plan. So, there is no need for me to be crying over spilt milk, I will take it that you are dumping me." Chizi said with tears in her eyes.

"Leave the whole thing to me. I'm taking over the whole plan. I will execute it alone and I will still succeed. The only thing I can promise you right now is that I will end up getting married to you and not Clara." Uche said to Chizi, holding her hand

"As for you Mike, I will give you money from my pocket so that you could start life afresh. I feel responsible for your misfortune. I have N5 million for you. I want you to forget about Clara because from the things she told me about you, it is clear that she does not love you. Please, go and build your life with this money. I'm sure you will make it and find a better woman to be your wife." Uche said, making Mike to jump up in happiness.

"Please stay with me Chizi. Stay with me and I promise you will not regret it. Just don't worry how I'm going to do it. Leave everything to me and I will give you a pleasant surprise." Uche said. Gradually, Chizi's face softened.
