The Enemy Within, Episode Sixteen

"What is keeping you so long? The airplane is about to move. Passengers are boarding right now as I speak. If you are not here by the next 10 minutes, you will end up missing the flight. Please rush and catch up with us." Clara said to Uche over the phone. She was at the airport with Uche's parents as well as her father and they were travelling to the United States as planned. They were going to support Clara on her induction ceremony. Everyone was happy, but became sad the moment they discovered that Uche had disappeared from the airport. He had told Clara that he was going back to pick a briefcase he forgot at home. It has been two hours since he left and no one had seen him.

"I'm on my way. I'm so sorry love, but I'm stuck on traffic. I can't possibly fly to the airport. I was thinking the road was clear. I was thinking I would just rush home and pick up the briefcase and be on my way, but you see, I have been tied down by bad traffic." Uche tells Clara over the phone.

"If I had known, I wouldn't have allowed you to go back home under any circumstance. It was a mistake to have allowed you to go. We would have bought whatever you had in the briefcase in America. Look now, the airplane is about to move and you are not here. Does it mean I'm going to fly alone? Does it mean we should fly to America without you? How are you going to join us?" Clara asked Uche with an agitated voice. She was not happy at all. She was thinking she and Uche would sit beside each other on the airplane, but that was not possible anymore.

"I had to rush home. The things I have in this bag are too important to be left in Nigeria. Without this bag, the wedding will not hold because the wedding ring and other important things are inside. How can I go to America to buy another expensive ring? The ring is more than N5 million, and that is why I said I had to rush home and pick it to avoid double expenses when we get to the US. Please, don't worry my love. Just board the flight without me. I will be right behind you. I will book another flight and I will be with you in America shortly." Uche responded to Clara.

"Please, promise me you will be right behind me. You should be in America in the next 24 hours so that you won't miss my induction ceremony. And please, promise me this incident would not jeopardise our wedding. I'm so worried." Clara lamented. She started crying over the phone and Uche had to sob briefly too to make her feel better.

"Stop talking like that my love. How can our wedding be jeopardized simply because missed my flight? What this simply means is that we are not traveling together in the same plane. It does not mean we are not going to get married again. My love, go ahead and board the plane, I will be with you in few hours even if it means chattering a private jet to fly me to America, will do it." Uche said. His firm words finally reassured Clara and she put her phone in airplane mode and boarded the flight. Shortly after she boarded, the airplane took off. Uche's parents and Clara's father were already in the airplane.

As soon as Uche dialed Clara's number again.

As soon as Uche dialed Clara's number again and it was not reachable, he knew that the airplane was airborne, so he set out to execute his ultimate plan. The whole time he was talking with Clara, he was on his bed resting. He had deceived everyone that he forgot something at home so, he deliberately missed the flight. He picked up his phone and called Chizi.

"Hello my love, pack up your bags and meet me at home immediately." Uche said. However, Clara was still in her shop when Uche called her, but she quickly took her handbag and started driving home. When she got home, she packed a few things in her bag and drove to Uche's house. She was over the moon, knowing that her man was waiting for her without Clara being present. Her joy knew no bounds. Soon, she negotiated the street and entered Uche's house.

"Hello love! can see you from the top. I can't wait to have you in my arms." Uche said from the third floor of the main building in the compound.

"My love, I can't wait to have you in my arms too. I'm so happy to be here with you with no one else in the compound." Chizi said as she rushed and climbed the stairs with speed. Chizi and Uche hugged each other as soon as she got to the third floor. They were so happy. They rushed into Uche's room and did a quick one. It did not last long but they enjoyed it.

"This reunion is so nice! I don't want it to end." Chizi said when they were done.

"Me too! And it will never end. We are getting married tomorrow." Uche announced. He went to one of his bags and brought out and engagement ring and gave it to Chizi. Uche wanted to kneel down, but Chizi was fast to kneel before him.

"Please my king, I'm the one that is supposed to kneel before you and not the other way round. I adore you with my heart." Chizi said as she knelt down and stretched her hand for the diamond ring. Uche stood up and carefully put it in her finger. It was such a fulfilling moment for Uche. He has dreamt of this day for a long time and finally, he was able to do it without let or hindrance.

Meanwhile, Uche took her phone and snapped Chizi as she was showing off her engagement ring. Later that night, she decided to post the photo on Facebook and captioned it:

"I said yes to the love of my life. Be our guest tomorrow at the registry."

In the morning, Clara who had landed in the USA saw Chizi's photo with an engagement ring on Facebook and she knew there was fire on the mountain. She decided to skip the induction ceremony and fly back to Nigeria without delay. Can she make it to Nigeria before Uche weds Chizi?
