Ada has been going to the market severally,
even to the stream following the same route
that leads to the market. She kept on wishing
to see Prince Onochie once more. She began to
develop feeling for the handsome Prince. She
became happy always even at the wickedness
of her Uncle and the family. But as days went
by and she didn’t see Prince Onochie, her
happiness began to fade away.
‘Does he really like me?’ Ada asked herself as
she walked to the stream one faithful evening
‘Are you sure her does not want to play on my
ignorance and helplessness?’ So many thoughts
ran through her head as she walked
‘What I’m I even talking about self. He is a
Prince and I am a pauper. Who will marry a
poor Orphan like me’
‘Mtcheew… ‘ She hissed concluding her
thoughts but still the feeling still burnt in her.
On getting very close to the stream, she saw
Ken the Chemist man. She threw her eyes away
as if she didn’t see him and walked past him
but Ken held her back
‘Bia, Ken. What is it again? Do you want to rape
me again?’ She asked with a sober voice
‘Heii!! Ada please, I have been waiting for you
here for the past hours’ Ken said
‘Waiting for me?’ Ada asked
‘Yes. Please forgive me’ Ken knelt down
pleading
‘It was the work of the devil’ Ken began his
apology.
‘I can’t tell what came over me’ Ken continued
‘Ken, I trusted you’ Ada said in tears
‘But you destroyed my life!!’ She burst out in
tears
‘You took advantage of my helplessness’ She
added as Ken pleaded silently
‘Well, who will I explain to? Who will believe
me that you raped me? I have nobody..’ Ada
said as tears flowed down her cheeks
‘Just leave me let me go’ Ada said and slipped
off her hand from Ken’s and walked away. Ken
felt hurt for his actions. To avoid been
disgraced, he quickly stood up, dried up his
tears and walked away.
