The next day, she took a taxi home at 10 in the morning. I didn’t go with her.

I waited till she returned. They were making arrangement for his burial when she spoke up again and said it wasn’t fatigue that killed her father.

For the first time, murder is being considered.

She said her step-mom had been quiet and had agreed to a fresh autopsy by another examiners.

And she had also sneaked into her father’s room and went through his briefcase. One he kept papers. Important ones.

Some were missing. Among was his policy documents at the insurance company. Odd.

We decided to dig up anything we could.

Fortunately she knows the MD of the company. He was personal friends with her dad. A good way to get to him was to check for him through facebook.

No need to send him any request and wait till he adds. She pulled up her dad’s profile and checked his list. There was the man, with his privacy settings public.

She sent him a message, he responded enthusiastically. She asked for his number and he obliged.

We called him and had it on speaker-phone.

“Ahhh!! Vicky!!! Good to hear from you. How is your dad?”
“He passed on some days ago” she replied calmly
Like he was shocked, he went silent. Then the barrage of questions. She answered him. Then he said
“Aww that’s so sad. And I saw him last week. He came around. He was a really nice man”
At hearing that, I became most curious. More than the cat.

I whispered to her, then she asked
“Please, can I come and see you?”
“When? I hope there’s no problem?”
“None sir. I just want to ask a favor sir”
“When do you want to come?”
“If you don’t mind, I’d come now”
“Okay, but hurry up cos I need to see a client.

We both went. But she went in alone to his office.

We had it all planned out. Normally, the man would not give out any unauthorised information regarding any client. So she had to work on him with the point of the suspicion of his death being murder .

When she came out? I heard a shocker…

Her father had just amended the next of kin to the two policies he ran to one name. Her stepmother.

She gets 100% of the insurance claims. One 240 million naira. Another was 160 million.

Vicky had fury in her eyes as she said
“My dad was to turn 60 on the 29th of next month”
I felt for the old man. Dead, for another’s greed…

We left to where we stayed. Vicky’s emotions had come back overwhelming. I just held her in a hug while she sobbed hard. A crying woman in your arms was very touching. And somewhat about it is s*xy**. I kissed her on the lips. And I kept kissing her till she stopped.
Attempting anything else would be rather insensitive. And inappropriate for the moment.
I had to leave her to get home briefly. She was okay and felt a bit safe there. Kemi kept was really concerned and even volunteered to go stay with her. So I called Vicky and asked if it was okay. It was a really nice idea but Vera was already on her way to stay with her.

That night, my phone rang. It was the girl I met at Bolingo’s swimming pool area the other day. She was calling to find out if I could swim. She needed someone to teach her for the upcoming exercise she was going for.
Hmmm… That fine girl. Wow. Such beauty.
