Must Read: Awkward Ways I Met Girls

Could her dad’s death be business related?
I was now uneasy to take her back to my place.

I couldn’t jeopardise the safety of my loved ones, so I decided we hid in one of the many the parks around. I went straight to Area 1. I turned in right at the turning before the shopping complex and turned right again. There’s a footbridge to cross from Area 1 to Area 2.

There’s a park that quite away from eyes. A good place to hid a bit.

And we also decided using the car around would not be safe. We eventually thought to start leaving after about an hour. The coast may be clear by now.

And by now, surprisingly, Vicky had developed some toughness. She wasn’t thinking anymore with the emotions of loosing her dad. She was now with the clear mindedness of some fugitive fighting for her freedom and/or survival.

We decided to take a place at Zone 2, molarex.

Not very expensive though and decent. Vicky used an ATM before we got there and paid for it.
I thought we’d be looking for ways to stay clear of trouble, instead, she was convinced that something was not right about her dad’s death.

First, she copied out some numbers and switched off her phones.

Vicky Carte-Ado was mind made up to find out what happened to her father. Mr Michael.

Somehow I admired the determination I saw in her eyes.

I asked a few more questions. To eliminate the possibility of another form of illness being the cause.

Funny, while both of us are now sure something is wrong, Vicky seems to believe it is business related.

In this case, there has to be a link between the doctor who gave the autopsy and the people.

I, On the other hand, think his health may have been jeopardised. -WAIT-
“Vicky did you say, his insulin is being administered at home?”
“Yes. Why?”
Wait a minute. I took out my blackberry and googled how coma was related to diabetes.

Trying to find out what link there could be.

After trying a couple of strings of search keywords, I found ways coma could be related to diabetes. When a diabetic patient develops hypoglycemia, the patient can become unconscious and slip into coma. And:
‘Hypoglycemia can have varied presentation.

Its clinical diagnosis is mainly based on symptomatology. These have been divided as neurogenic and neuroglyopenic.

The neuroglyopenic symptoms range from subtle behavioral abnormalities to loss of consciousness and seizures. Hypoglycemia can also present with hypotension and bradycardia as it was in this patient. Diaphoresis with bradycardia and hypotension drives the clinician to search for a cardiovascular cause and hypoglycemia is not thought of until blood glucose is measured.’

Normally, this sounded like some medical mumbo-jumbo but the last sentence caught me.

I didn’t understand all these very well and if I made any judgments with a lay man’s understanding, I might end up being wrong.

So I asked her if she understood any of it.

I had forgotten, Vicky studied Bio-chemistry in the university. So she attempted a better breakdown for me. But I needed a professional explanation.

I remembered a friend of mine who’s a doctor in Jos. Fortunately, I have him on whatsapp so I copied and pasted that paragraph to him.

After a while, he replied
“Does the person have insulin poisoning?”
“Not that we can tell now. But what is your view on that”
“Well, when someone is said to be diabetic is when he has high level of sugar in his blood.

To reduce the blood sugar to a healthy level, insulin is administered. What insulin does is to reduce to the blood sugar, so it has to be monitored. Else the patient develops hypoglycemia. Which is low blood sugar.” He said.

Interesting. This was getting more interesting and I was getting impatient to hear what I was thinking
“Okay. So how does this insulin poisoning play out?” I said him impatiently
“Yes, it is not healthy to have low blood sugar neither. Infact it is fatal. So too much insulin can be a lethal dose”
At this point my mind wasn’t racing again.

“So bro, are you saying that this insulin poisoning can make a person go into coma and not survive it?”
“Yes, in a way”
“So, what happens in other ways”
“If the insulin is discontinued, the patient might begin recovery process and can survive the hypoglycemia” he said
“But if continued, death is possible”
“Not only possible. Certain.”

Me and Vicky went through it. She looked up at me
“What are you trying to say?”
“For an instant, let’s consider the slightest possiblity of this hypoglycemia and insulin”
“Okay”
“Your mom administers it, right”
“What’s the possibility that she may have made errors and had over period of time administered it and reduced his blood to a lethal state”
She just stared at me blankly.

I continued
“He eventually slips into a coma. And yet, another shot is given. As finishing touches”
Vicky never said a word. She just looked on, expressionless.

After about a minute, she calmly looked up at me
“But all these are just assumptions, right” she asked with an apparent disbelief at what I tried to carefully insinuate.

“Though assumptions, they remain my thoughts”
She looked totally confused.

“But why would she?” She asked, obviously trying to make sense of it all
“That is what we should find out” I smiled…
