Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 32
The loud BANG! from the front door sent a jolt of pure panic through the living room. Alloy and Ujunwa jumped apart as if they had been struck by lightning, their hearts hammering against their ribs. In a blur of desperate movement, Alloy scrambled to grab a notebook from the table, while Ujunwa snatched up her mathematics textbook, her hands trembling so violently she nearly dropped it. They both scrambled to assume the posture of a “teacher” and “student,” but the adrenaline was still burning in their veins.
Heavy, deliberate footsteps echoed through the hallway, closer and closer.
”Ujunwa!” a familiar, stern female voice called out.
Ujunwa’s blood went cold, her eyes widening in sheer terror. “Aunty Stella…” she whispered, the name barely escaping her lips.
The woman stepped into the living room, looking sharp and intimidating, carrying a leather handbag and a small travel bag. She was Ujunwa’s mother’s elder sister—a woman notorious in the family for her “surprise inspections” and her sharp, detective-like instincts. She stopped dead in her tracks the moment she saw Alloy, her eyes narrowing as she surveyed the scene.
”Oh… good afternoon,” she said, her voice dripping with calculated politeness.
Alloy stood up, adjusting his khaki shirt, his smile feeling forced and brittle. “Good afternoon, ma.”
”And you must be the Corper teaching her?” she asked, her gaze sweeping over his uniform, judging every detail.
”Yes, ma. I am,” Alloy replied, trying to keep his voice steady despite the sinking feeling in his gut.
Aunty Stella took a slow, calculated walk around the room, her eyes darting between the textbooks on the table and the slightly disheveled look of the two occupants. “So… this is where you people hold these lessons?” she asked, her tone lingering on the word ‘lessons’ as if she were questioning its validity.
”Yes, Aunty,” Ujunwa answered quickly, forcing a calm tone that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
The woman nodded slowly, her expression unreadable, but the tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife. “I forgot some important documents here yesterday. Your mother asked me to stop by and pick them up.”
She started toward the hallway but paused, turning back slightly. “You two should continue your lesson. Don’t let me interrupt. I’ll only be a few minutes.”
As soon as she disappeared into the inner room, Alloy let out a ragged breath he had been holding for an eternity. He wiped sweat from his forehead. “That was entirely too close,” he whispered harshly.
Ujunwa let out a nervous, shaky laugh, moving closer to him again. “I honestly had no idea she was coming today. She usually never visits on a Sunday.”
Alloy shook his head, his face hardening. “Ujunwa, this is exactly what I warned you about. This is why we have to be careful. People can misinterpret situations so easily, and one wrong move could cost me everything.”
She lowered her eyes, looking genuinely regretful for the first time. “I’m sorry. I just wanted us to have some peace.”
A few minutes felt like hours before Aunty Stella returned, holding a brown envelope. She stopped in front of Alloy, her face finally softening into a thin smile. “Young man, thank you for helping my niece. Her exams are coming up, and she really needs the encouragement. Don’t stop pushing her.”
”I’ll do my best, ma,” Alloy promised.
As the front door finally clicked shut behind her, the house fell into an oppressive silence. The relief was short-lived. Alloy felt a knot in his stomach that refused to dissolve. He picked up the textbook and set it firmly on the table. “Let’s focus. Your exams are more important than anything else right now. Let’s get to work.”
Get to work how?
When I have already told u my reason of inviting u here? Ujunwa asked..
Just as Alloy wanted to reply, his phone vibrated violently on the table.
He glanced at the screen, and the blood drained from his face instantly. The message was from the school Principal:
”Corper Alloy, report to my office first thing on Friday morning. It is urgent.
I should have said tomorrow but since yo guys will be going for CDs tomorrow being Thursday so that’s why I said you should see me next tomorrow which is Friday”
Alloy stared at the screen, the room spinning around him. Urgent.
He knew the Principal didn’t send messages like that for minor administrative issues. Was this a routine meeting? Or had someone—perhaps the suspicious Aunty Stella, or even the jealous Amarachi—already reported him? The trap was closing, and Friday morning felt like a death sentence.
Predict the meeting: Does Alloy go to the office with a lie, or does he try to tell the truth? 👇🔥
