Episode 9: The Ink Trap

Can a hidden eye catch the lies that people tell in the dark?

One cool evening, the sky outside was turning very dark and the air was getting cold. Inside the house, the sitting room was completely quiet. There was no music playing and the television was turned off. The chairs and the tables looked like big dark shapes in the dim room. Tunde sat alone in his room. He was very tired of all the fighting and crying. He loved Bisi deeply, but she was acting so strange lately. He did not know that Lola was causing all the trouble.

Lola was Bisi’s close friend, but she was a very bad person. She was a wicked friend who whispered terrible lies into Bisi’s ears when Tunde was away. Lola wanted to break their marriage apart because she was jealous of their love. Tunde had wanted to show Bisi how badly she was acting when they argued, so he had come up with a very smart plan. He had turned on the video camera of his mobile phone and hid it carefully inside a large flower vase in the corner of the sitting room. The camera lens was peeking out clearly.

Then, Tunde had walked away into the kitchen to get a glass of cold water. While he was in the kitchen, the room was completely empty and very silent. The hidden camera kept recording everything. Suddenly, the front door slowly pushed open. Someone was sneaking inside the room alone. It was Lola. She walked into the quiet sitting room with soft steps. She did not know that the phone was hidden in the flower vase, watching her every move. Lola looked around to make sure no one was there. She walked over to the side table very quietly.

She picked up the beautiful wedding photo of Bisi and Tunde. She stared at the happy face of Bisi and hissed loudly like an angry snake. Then, she saw something else resting on the sofa. It was the favorite white dress of Bisi. The dress was clean and sparkling white. Lola reached into her bag and pulled out a glass bottle filled with dark red ink. An evil smile grew on her face. She opened the bottle slowly. She was ready to do something very bad. She tipped the bottle forward and poured the ink all over it.

The red ink spread like a large blood stain, ruining the dress completely. Lola laughed a quiet, wicked laugh. She did not know the hidden camera was listening to her. She leaned close to the ruined dress and whispered to herself. Once Bisi sees this, she will think Tunde did it. They will fight again, and Tunde will be mine. Her words were loud and clear. She placed the empty ink bottle on the floor to make it look like an accident. Suddenly, she heard heavy footsteps coming from the kitchen. It was Tunde walking back into the sitting room.

Lola gasped and quickly stepped away from the sofa. She put on her best fake crying face. Tunde entered the room and stopped in total shock. Bisi then walked into the room from the bedroom. She saw her ruined dress and gasped in horror. She looked at Tunde with wide eyes. Lola pointed at Bisi and kept crying louder. Tunde raised his hand to stop the noise. He walked straight to the large flower vase in the corner of the sitting room. His face was very calm and his eyes were very serious. He knew the truth was safe.

Tunde stood right in front of the tall, beautifully decorated flower vase in the dark corner of the sitting room. His heart was beating fast. He reached his right hand deep inside the green leaves of the artificial plant. His fingers touched the cold metal of his device. Tunde reached into the flower vase and pulled out his mobile phone. He held the phone up so that the light from the window could shine on it. The phone was completely black, and it looked very small in his big hand.

Lola was standing in the middle of the room. When she saw the black phone in Tunde's hand, her whole body froze. Lola stopped crying at once. The loud noise of her fake weeping disappeared from her throat instantly. The room became very quiet, so quiet that you could hear the wind outside. Her mouth stayed wide open, but she could not speak a single word. Her fake tears dried up on her skin. She looked at the mobile phone with horror. Her eyes grew wide with deep fear. She knew that her own secret was in big danger now.

She realized that the phone had been watching her the whole time. She felt a cold shiver run down her back. Her legs began to shake, and she wanted to run out of the front door, but she was too afraid to move. Tunde did not look at her. He kept his eyes on the glass screen. The screen was still glowing with a soft white light. He moved his thumb slowly across the front of the device. Tunde tapped the screen and stopped the recording. He saved the long video file into the memory folder of the black phone.

The recording was fully finished now. The little hidden eye had done its job perfectly. The truth was safe inside the phone, and nobody could change it. Nobody could pretend that the red ink was an accident anymore. The proof was completely ready. Tunde turned his body around and looked at his wife Bisi. Bisi was candy standing near the bedroom door, looking very sad and very confused. She did not know why Tunde had a phone in the flower vase. She did not know what was happening. Tunde looked at her with his very gentle eyes now.

He wanted to help her see the truth. He wanted to fix their broken home. He wanted to show her that he was a good husband who loved her very much. He did not want to shout or fight anymore. He wanted the peace to come back into their lives tonight. He held the mobile phone tightly in his left hand. He looked at Bisi’s pretty face, which was covered in real sadness. He called Bisi to come closer. He lifted his hand and made a small sign to tell her to walk over to his own side right now.

Bisi looked at his calm face and took a few small steps forward. Her slippers made a soft sound on the carpet floor. Walk, walk, walk. She came and stood right next to her husband in the dark corner of the sitting room. She looked down at the black mobile phone in his hand. She wondered what was on the screen. Tunde looked at her with a lot of love. "Watch this," he said softly to his wife. His voice was very kind and very low. He did not want to scare her. He wanted her to feel very safe.

He turned the bright display toward her eyes so she could see every little thing. He played the video from the start. Tunde pressed the little play button with his thumb. The phone screen became very bright, casting a clear light on their faces. Lola stood a few feet away, her whole body shivering with a lot of terror. She knew that her wicked actions were about to be seen by everyone. On the bright screen, they clearly saw Lola sneak into the room. The video quality was very good. It showed the heavy wooden door moving open very slowly.

It showed Lola’s dark shape stepping inside the house. On the video, Lola was moving like a sneaky animal in the night. She was looking to the left and to the right, making sure the house was completely empty. Her movements on the video looked very guilty and very strange. Bisi stared at the screen, her mouth opening slightly. She recognized her friend’s clothes, her friend's bag, and her friend's face. The video showed Lola walking around the empty sitting room, thinking she was totally alone. They watched her hiss at their beautiful wedding photo on the small wooden side table.

The video on the phone kept playing smoothly. It showed Lola walking with soft steps over to the small side table. It showed her right hand reaching out to pick up the beautiful wooden frame that held the wedding picture of Tunde and Bisi. The camera captured the exact look on Lola's face. Her face was full of deep anger and mean hatred. She stared at Bisi’s happy smile in the photograph. Then, the phone’s small speaker played a very clear sound. They heard her hiss loudly like an angry snake. The noise was very sharp and very nasty.

It was the sound of pure jealousy. Bisi felt a cold feeling in her chest. She could not believe that her close friend could make such a bad noise at her wedding picture. The video of truth did not stop. It kept showing the next wicked deed. They watched her pour the red ink all over the white dress. The bright screen showed Lola walking over to the soft sofa where Bisi’s favorite white dress was resting neatly. They saw Lola open her big bag and pull out the glass bottle. The bottle was full of thick, dark red ink.

Lola turned the black cap of the bottle until it came off. Then, she raised her hand high into the air and tilted the glass bottle downward over the fabric. A heavy stream of dark red liquid splashed all over the sparkling white cloth. The video showed the red ink soaking deep into the clean threads, spreading out like a giant, messy stain. It showed the exact second when the beautiful garment was totally ruined by Lola’s hand. Bisi looked at the screen, and then she looked at the real dress on the sofa.

Exactly the same as the real mess. The proof was completely perfect. Then, the phone played her loud whisper. The video showed Lola bending her body forward, leaning very close to the wet red stain on the white dress. She wanted to look at her bad work. Because the sitting room had been very quiet during the recording, her voice came out of the phone's speaker very loud and very clear. Every single word she spoke was very easy to hear and fully understand now. "Once Bisi sees this, she will think Tunde did it. And Tunde will be mine!"

The words rang out through the sitting room. They sounded like loud thunder in the quiet house. They cut through the darkness of the night. The whisper revealed the entire dirty plan. It proved that Lola had arranged everything to cause a massive fight between the husband and the wife. It proved that she wanted to destroy Bisi’s life and take Tunde for herself. The evidence was totally complete. There was no way for Lola to deny it anymore. It was her face on the screen, her hand holding the bottle, and her voice saying bad words. She was caught.

Bisi covered her mouth with both hands. She stepped backward until her back hit the hard wall. She was completely shocked and heartbroken. Her whole body was shaking like a leaf in a strong wind. She felt like the room was turning around her. She looked at Lola, who was standing a few feet away, and then she looked back at the glowing phone screen. The pain in her soul was too big for words. The person she loved like a sister, the person she trusted, was the very person who was trying to break her beautiful home completely now.

Hot tears rolled down her face. These were real tears of deep sorrow and bitter regret. They came out of her eyes fast and hot, running down her fingers and wetting her skin. She wept silently, her shoulders moving up and down. She felt a massive wave of guilt inside her heart. She remembered all the times she had shouted at Tunde because of the bad stories Lola told her. She remembered how she had doubted her sweet husband because she believed her friend. She saw how blind she had been for many long weeks of her own marriage life.

Tunde was completely innocent, and Lola was a terrible monster. She finally saw the real face of her best friend. The sweet mask that Lola always wore was gone forever. The nice words and the fake smiles were completely destroyed by the video recording. Bisi saw that Lola was a dangerous person full of hatred and jealousy. Lola was shaking with shame and fear. She stood in the center of the sitting room with her head bowed very low. She could not lift her eyes to look at Tunde or Bisi’s sad crying face at this very dark night time.

Her hands were trembling violently by her sides. Her legs felt weak, as if she was about to fall down onto the floor tiles. Her face was completely red with embarrassment. She knew that her big game of lies was over for good. She could not tell another untruth because the hidden eye of the camera had shown everything to everyone. She was trapped inside the house with the people she tried to hurt, and she had nowhere to hide. The sitting room became completely quiet once more. Tunde turned off the screen, and all the bright light went away right now from them all.

What will happen now that the ugly truth is out in the open for the last time ever in this house tonight before the sun rises very high in the sky up above us tomorrow?

Can you believe Lola’s evil plan was caught so perfectly by Tunde’s phone?

What will Bisi say to Lola now that she knows the truth about the red ink?

Will Tunde tell Lola to leave their house immediately in the cold night?
