Episode 5: The Ink Trap
Can a hidden eye catch the lies that people tell in the dark?
One cool evening, the sky outside was turning dark and the air was getting cold. Inside the house, Tunde sat all alone in his room. He sat on the edge of his bed with his head resting in his big hands. He looked very small and very sad in the quiet room. He was very tired of all the fighting and crying that had been happening in the house for many days. It felt like the happy home he once knew was completely gone. Every single day brought a new argument, and every night ended with someone weeping in the dark. It was too much for him to bear anymore. His body felt heavy, and his mind was completely filled with dark clouds of worry.
He loved Bisi deeply, with all of his heart. She was his wife, his best friend, and the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He remembered the days when they used to laugh together and share beautiful dreams about their future. But lately, everything had changed in a very bad way. Bisi was acting so strange lately. She did not smile at him anymore. She did not ask how his day was. Instead, she looked at him with eyes full of anger and doubt. Every little thing he did seemed to make her upset. If he spoke, she would shout. If he stayed quiet, she would say he was hiding something from her. Tunde felt like he was walking on sharp pieces of broken glass every time he was near her. He could not understand what was happening to the beautiful woman he loved so much.
He did not know that Lola was the one causing all the trouble. Lola was Bisi’s close friend, but she was not a true friend at all. Lola was a wicked person who liked to see other people suffer. She was the one whispering bad things into Bisi’s ears when Tunde was not around. Lola would tell Bisi that Tunde did not love her anymore. She would tell Bisi that Tunde was keeping secrets and telling lies. Bisi believed Lola because she trusted her, and that trust was now destroying her marriage. Tunde was completely in the dark about Lola’s evil actions. He did not know that an enemy was already inside his house, breaking his home piece by piece. All he could see was that his wife was changing into someone he could no longer recognize.
Tunde sat on his bed and thought for a very long time. He wanted the fighting to stop. He wanted his sweet wife back. He wanted to show Bisi how badly she was acting when they argued. He wanted her to see how her anger was ruining everything they had built together. He believed that if Bisi could just see herself during their arguments, she would realize how unfair she was being to him. He thought that maybe she did not know how scary and loud her anger had become. But how could he show her the truth without starting another big fight? He needed a way to capture the real moments when he was innocent and she was angry.
So, he came up with a very smart plan. It was a simple plan, but he believed it would work perfectly. He reached into his pocket and took out his mobile phone. The phone was small and black, and it had a very good video camera on the back. He tapped the screen with his finger and turned on the video camera. He made sure the camera was recording smoothly. He looked at the screen and saw his own worried face looking back at him. He breathed out a long sigh. He hoped that this little phone would help him save his marriage from falling apart.
He walked out of his bedroom very quietly, holding the phone tightly in his hand. He stepped into the sitting room. The sitting room was dim and lonely. He looked around for the perfect place to put his phone. He did not want Bisi or anyone else to see it. In the corner of the sitting room, there was a large flower vase. The vase was tall and beautifully decorated with colorful patterns. Inside the vase were big, artificial flowers with thick green leaves. It was the best hiding spot in the whole room.
He walked over to the corner where the vase stood. He carefully hid the phone inside the large flower vase. He pushed it deep down between the plastic stems and the big leaves so that the body of the phone was completely invisible. He was very gentle so that he would not knock the vase over or make any loud noise. He adjusted the artificial leaves with his fingers until the camera lens was peeking out just enough to see the whole room clearly. He stood back and looked at the vase from a distance. You could not see the phone at all. It just looked like a normal vase with pretty flowers. The little camera lens was like a secret, hidden eye waiting in the dark.
Then, Tunde quietly walked away into the kitchen to get a glass of cold water. His throat felt dry because he was so nervous about his plan. He walked with soft footsteps, making sure his slippers did not make a sound on the floor tiles. He entered the kitchen and opened the refrigerator door. A cool white light spilled out into the dark kitchen. He took out a bottle of cold water and poured it into a clean glass. He held the glass in his hand, feeling the coldness against his skin. He took a small sip, but his eyes were fixed on the kitchen doorway. He was waiting and listening.
Back in the sitting room, the space was completely empty and very silent. There was no music playing, and the television was turned off. The only sound in the house was the slow ticking of the wall clock. Tick, tack, tick, tack. The shadows on the wall were long and still. The air inside the room felt freezing, as if something big was about to happen. In the dark corner, the hidden camera kept recording everything. It did not blink, and it did not move. It just watched the empty room, saving every second into its digital memory. The hidden eye was ready to capture the truth, no matter what that truth might look like.
Tunde stood still in the kitchen, holding his glass of water. His heart began to beat very fast inside his chest. Thump, thump, thump. He felt a strange feeling in his stomach, a feeling that told him he was not alone anymore. He held his breath and strained his ears to listen to the front part of the house. The silence in the living room was so deep that even a tiny sound would seem very loud.
Suddenly, the front door slowly pushed open.
The sound was very small, just a soft creak of the door hinges. The door handle had turned without making a noise, and now the heavy wooden door was moving inward. A small draft of cool night air blew into the sitting room from the outside world. The curtains near the window moved slightly in the breeze.
Someone was sneaking inside the room alone.
The person did not walk like a normal visitor. They did not knock on the door, and they did not call out Tunde’s name. They were moving very slowly, taking one careful step at a time. They kept their body low and close to the wall, trying to stay in the dark shadows where the light could not reach them. They did not want anyone in the house to know they were there. They were being as quiet as a mouse stealing cheese in the middle of the night.
The hidden camera lens was pointed right at the doorway. It was recording the door as it opened wider and wider. It was recording the dark shape of the person stepping over the threshold and into the living room. The hidden eye was seeing everything in real time.
Tunde froze in the kitchen. He did not drink his water. He did not move a muscle. He could see the faint shadow of the front door shifting from where he stood near the kitchen counter. He knew someone was in his house. His heart was pounding so hard he was afraid the intruder might hear it. Was it Bisi coming back to start another terrible fight? Was it Lola coming to spread more wicked lies in his home? Or was it a complete stranger who had come to do something even worse in the dark?
The person stepped fully into the sitting room and stopped. They stood completely still for a moment, listening to the quietness of the house, just like Tunde was doing in the kitchen. The dim light from the street lamp outside shone through the open door, casting a long, scary shadow across the living room carpet. The hidden camera kept running, capturing the exact shape of the person, the way they held their breath, and the way they looked around the silent room.
The mystery was hanging heavily in the cool air. The trap was set, the hidden eye was watching, and the secret was about to be revealed. The moment of truth had finally arrived for Tunde and his broken home.
