Episode 1: Three Big Secrets
Mark Harrison was a man who felt like he was walking on sunshine every single day of his life. He lived in a very beautiful house that was always filled with the happiest sounds you could ever imagine. If you walked into his home, you would hear the sound of loud laughter coming from every corner. You would hear the pitter-patter of small feet running quickly across the smooth wooden floors. You would also smell the most delicious food because his wife, Linda, was an amazing cook. Mark truly believed in his heart that he was the luckiest man in the whole wide world. He had everything he ever wanted, and his heart was full of peace.
Mark and Linda had been married for ten wonderful years. These ten years felt like a beautiful dream that never ended. They were the best of friends and they loved each other very much. Together, they had three children who were the absolute center of Mark’s universe. There was Leo, who was the oldest and very brave. Then there was Sarah, who was kind and loved to draw pretty pictures. And finally, there was little Mia, the baby of the house, who had the cutest smile in the world. Mark loved them more than words could ever say. Every single morning, Mark would wake up very early, even before the sun was high in the sky. He would walk quietly to their rooms and just watch them sleep. He would look at their peaceful faces and feel a very deep sense of pride. He felt like a king because he had such a wonderful family to protect and love.
One sunny Saturday afternoon, the family was relaxing in their living room. The sun was shining brightly through the windows, and everything felt perfect. Suddenly, they heard a sound at the front door. It was the mailman delivering the mail. Mark went to the door and found a bright, golden envelope waiting for him on the doorstep. It looked very special because it was shiny and gold. Mark opened it and saw that it was an invitation from a brand-new hospital in their town called the City Wellness Hospital. In big, bold, and friendly letters, the paper said: Free Health and Family Screening!
Mark showed the golden paper to Linda and smiled. He thought it was a perfect chance to make sure their children were growing up healthy and strong. He told Linda that it would be a fun family outing. He even thought that after the hospital visit, they could all go and get some cold ice cream as a treat. He wanted his kids to be the healthiest kids in the world. He had no idea that this golden invitation was not just a piece of paper. It was actually a key. It was a key that would soon unlock a door to a very dark and very cold reality. Mark was happy and excited, but a big storm was coming to his perfect life.
The next day, the family got ready to go to the clinic. The sky was blue and the birds were singing. Mark felt great as he sat in the driver’s seat of their car. As they drove to the hospital, Mark began to sing happy songs with little Mia. Mia’s tiny voice filled the car with joy, and Sarah and Leo joined in too. Linda sat in the front seat next to Mark, looking at her family with a big smile. They looked like the perfect family from a storybook. Mark was completely unaware of what was waiting for him. He did not know that his life was about to shatter into a million tiny pieces. He thought he was just going for a simple check-up, but the world he knew was about to disappear forever.
When they arrived at the City Wellness Hospital, everything looked very clean and very white. There were many nurses in blue uniforms walking around. The air smelled like soap and medicine. Mark held Mia’s hand as they walked to the front desk. The nurses were very kind to the children and gave them colorful stickers. Leo got a sticker of a lion, Sarah got a sticker of a flower, and Mia got a sticker of a bright yellow sun. They all went into a room where a nurse took a little bit of blood from each of them. It was a very quick test, and the children were very brave. Mark was proud of them for not crying. He told them they were the bravest children he had ever seen.
After the tests were done, the family waited in a big room with soft chairs. Mark was still thinking about the ice cream they would eat later. He was planning to get a big scoop of chocolate and vanilla. He felt so relaxed and happy. He looked at Linda and squeezed her hand. She looked back at him with love in her eyes. Everything seemed so normal. Everything seemed so right. But inside the hospital laboratory, the machines were working, and the results were coming out. These results held a secret that no one was prepared for.
A little while later, a nurse came out and called Mark’s name. She asked him to come and see the doctor in a private office. Mark told Linda to stay with the kids and that he would be back in a minute. He walked down a long, quiet hallway. The floor was so shiny that he could see his own reflection. He reached the doctor’s door and knocked gently. A voice from inside told him to come in. Mark walked in with a smile, expecting the doctor to tell him that his family was perfectly healthy.
But the room felt different the moment he stepped inside. It was very quiet and very cold. The doctor was sitting behind a large desk. He was looking down at some papers. The doctor’s face was not friendly like the invitation had been. Instead, his face was like a mask of cold stone. He did not look up when Mark entered the room. He just kept staring at the final test results on his desk. His hands were shaking just a little bit. Mark felt a sudden chill in his heart. He wondered why the doctor looked so serious. He wondered if something was wrong with one of the kids.
Mark sat down in the chair across from the doctor. He waited for the doctor to speak, but the silence lasted for a long time. The only sound in the room was the ticking of a clock on the wall. Each tick sounded like a loud hammer in Mark’s ears. Finally, the doctor looked up, but he did not look Mark in the eye. He looked at the wall behind Mark instead. His voice was very low and very quiet. It was almost like he was afraid to speak.
"Sir," the doctor whispered, his voice sounding very heavy. "There is a secret in this blood that will change your life forever."
Mark felt his heart stop. He felt like the ground was disappearing from under his feet. He looked at the doctor, trying to understand what he had just heard. A secret? In the blood? What could that mean? He thought about his happy home, his beautiful wife, and his three perfect children. He thought about the laughter and the songs they had sung in the car only an hour ago. Now, everything felt different. The air in the room felt too thick to breathe. He wanted to scream, he wanted to run away, but he was frozen in his chair. He stared at the doctor, waiting for the rest of the words, but the doctor remained silent. The secret was now out in the open, and nothing would ever be the same again for Mark Harrison.
Mark looked at the golden envelope that he still held in his hand. It did not look bright or friendly anymore. Now, it looked like a warning. He realized that the life he thought he had was built on something he did not fully understand. He looked at the doctor’s cold face and felt a deep sense of fear. He was no longer the luckiest man in the world. He was a man standing on the edge of a very dark cliff, and he was about to fall. The secret was there, hidden in the papers on the desk, and it was a secret that would change every single thing he knew about himself and his family.
As he sat there, he could hear the faint sound of his children laughing in the waiting room. He could hear Mia’s little voice and Leo’s playful shout. It felt like those sounds were coming from a world that was millions of miles away. Just a few minutes ago, those sounds were his reality. Now, they felt like a memory of a time that was gone forever. Mark closed his eyes for a second, wishing he could go back to that morning. He wished he had never opened that golden envelope. He wished he had never come to this hospital. But it was too late. The door had been unlocked, and the truth was waiting to be told.
The doctor moved his hand toward the papers. He seemed to be deciding whether to say more or to let Mark process the heavy words he had just spoken. Mark’s mind was racing with a thousand questions. Is it Sarah? Is it Leo? Is it Mia? Or is it me? He felt a cold sweat on his forehead. He wanted to ask the doctor to explain, but his throat felt dry and tight. He could not make a sound. He could only sit and wait for the darkness to settle over him.
The hospital room felt smaller and smaller. The lights felt too bright. Mark looked at the doctor’s lips, waiting for them to move again. He knew that whatever came next would destroy his world. He knew that the peace he had felt for ten years was gone. The "Three Big Secrets" were starting to show themselves, and the first one was already sitting right there between him and the doctor. The happy man who walked into the clinic was gone. In his place was a man who was terrified of the truth.
Mark thought about Linda. She was waiting for him with a smile. She was waiting to go and get ice cream. How could he walk out there and look at her? How could he tell her that their lives had changed in a single moment? He felt a heavy weight on his shoulders, like he was carrying the whole world. The doctor finally sighed and leaned forward. He looked like he was about to reveal the details of the secret. Mark braced himself. He held onto the arms of the chair so hard that his knuckles turned white. He was ready, or at least he thought he was. But no one is ever really ready for a secret that changes everything.
The silence in the room was finally broken by the sound of a heavy sigh from the doctor. He looked down at the blood test results one more time. The papers were filled with numbers and letters that Mark did not understand. But the doctor understood them very well. He knew what they meant for Mark. He knew what they meant for Linda and the kids. He looked at Mark with a look of pity. It was the kind of look you give to someone who has lost everything. Mark hated that look. He didn't want pity. He wanted his life back. He wanted the sun to keep shining and the songs to keep playing. But the sun had gone down, and the music had stopped. There was only the cold, hard truth left in the room.
What do you think?
What do you think the doctor found in the blood test results?
Do you think Mark’s children are in danger, or is the secret about something else?
How would you feel if a doctor told you that your whole life was about to change?
