{ THE MURDERER IS BACK }

“Dr. Abby?” Tara whispered in a soft voice, peeling her eyes open.

She sighted a figure standing beside her bed, staring down at her.

The ward was dark so she couldn’t quite make out the face of the person. Although, the person was wearing black attire because somehow, the person blended with the darkness.

“Dr. Abby, is that you?” She questioned, slowly sitting upright on the hospital bed, her breathing increasing than normal as she began to panic. “Who are you?”

There was no answer.

“What do you want with me? Who the hell are you?” She cried, pressing herself against the headboard of the bed, hoping it would save or protect her from whatever harm lurking around.

“Dr. Abby?” Tara called out again, hot tears rolling down her face as she grabbed the flowers beside the bed, holding them out in defense mode. “Who are you? Get away from me!”

The figure finally made a move by coming closer to her.

“Don’t touch me. Somebody help me!” Tara screamed.

“This is going to hurt a little,” The figure whispered, making the teenage girl quirk her brow, looking a little bit confused. “But the death is not going to hurt compared to how much it would hurt if you are still alive.”

“What… What are you saying?” Tara asked in a whisper, not understanding anything the figure was saying.

What death? Who was going to die?

“Shush, stop talking. It is only going to hurt even more.” The figure collected the flowers from Tara’s grasp and threw them aside. “I am only here to say my last goodbyes…”

“Goodbyes?” Tara repeated. “What do you mean?”

“The pain will soon kick in, honey.” The figure took out their phone and set a timer, a smirk playing on their li-p.

Due to the light illuminating from the phone and to the figure’s face, Tara was able to see the face of the intruder.

“Dr…” She wasn’t able to complete her sentence when her breathing grew heavier and her abdomen started hurting her.

“It has begun,” The figure smirked wider, looking like a complete psychopath. “I’m sorry once again. But this is the only way everyone can be happy. You, your mother, and even…Dr. Abby. You want them to be happy, right? Don’t you, honey?” The figure tucked a strand of hair from Tara’s face to the back of her ear. “Thirty minutes…just thirty minutes and it will all be over.”

“Ah,” The girl screamed as blood started dripping out of her mouth and she fell off the bed, hitting the ground very hard. “My…my stomach…”

There was no reaction from the figure. Nothing at all…

The timer was almost up however, thirty minutes felt like years for the girl. She could see her death standing right in front of her, waiting patiently for her time to be up so it could take her away from the land of the living.

Did Dr. Abby know that she was going to die tonight? Was that why she decided to spoil her before she met her demise? Tara wondered, still struggling to breathe as more blood flew out of her mouth.

It was just so unfortunate she wasn’t able to see her nice Dr. Abby before she died. It was unfortunate that things had to end this way. That her story has to end this way…

Or maybe the figure was right. It is better she dies and frees her mother from the pain… It was better she die so that Dr. Abby, the nice Dr. Abby can be happy.

More tears streamed down Tara’s face as she looked up at the figure who was still smirking down at her.

Tara felt her intestines twisting and crushing. She felt life leaving her body.

She couldn’t fight it anymore… This was her end.

However, She was able to ask one last question. “Why…did you hurt me…?”

The time was up as the sound started blaring throu-ghthe four corners of the room and at the same time, Tara gave up on life.

The figure picked up the flowers they had tossed away from the ground and dropped them down on Tara’s body.

“Rest in peace, kitten.”

Sandra stepped out of a room and rushed toward the exit of the hospital when she came across Thelma.

“Oh, my God!” They both squeaked at the same time, least expecting to see the other. “What are you doing here?” They asked in synchronization.

Sandra let out a de-ep breath, looking back at the room she just came out from.

While Thelma watched her closely, raising a questioning brow.

“Dr. Sandra, why are you here?”

“Why can’t I be here?” Sandra retorted, clearing her throat.

“Well, because today is your day off. You should be resting at home.” Thelma responded, looking at Sandra as if she was being stupid.

“I came here to get something, okay?”

“Dressed…like that?” Thelma eyed Sandra from head to toe, frowning.

“What is wrong with the way I dressed, Nurse Thelma?” Sandra fired back in anger, rubbing her sweaty palms over her black trousers and looking back once again. She was shit scared about something. “Listen I don’t have the time to stand here and discuss pointless things, okay? I have something much more important to take care of. Now get out of my way.” She pushed Thelma aside and walked out of the hospital, not daring to look back because she knows for sure that Thelma was still staring at her retreating figure.

< FIVE-STAR RESTAURANT>

Abby entered the restaurant with a small smile on her face and made her way to the young lady seated behind a desk.

“Hi, I made a reservation.”

The young lady with the tag name ‘Eliza’ stood up. “Hi. What is your name, please?”

“Abby. Sorry, I mean, Abigail Inocencio.” She answered.

“Okay. Please hold on a second. Let me check.” Eliza said, going throu-gha chart on the table.

“Okay…” Abigail slowly nodded her head and began taking in the surrounding of the spacious restaurant. It screamed expensive and wealth. There is no way a poor person would make a reservation to eat in such an expensive place like this. Abby wouldn’t have made reservations here if it wasn’t because the dinner was with her boss.

Mind you, she can afford to eat in a place like this but she very much knows how to manage her money and not spend them lavishly even if she has enough to squander.

Eliza finally stood upright. “You are at table 15, ma’am. Someone is already waiting for you there.”

“Okay. Thank you.” Abigail smiled at the lady and walked away.

Seems like her boss was already there. Shit.

Sandra entered the house and made her way to the staircase when she bumped into Margaret.

“Ma’am,” The nanny bowed her head a little. “You are back a little bit…late.”

“And how is that your business!?” Sandra snapped, taking off the black cap she was wearing.

“I’m sorry,” Margaret apologized.

“Where is my son?”

“I just tucked him into bed. He was waiting for you while worried sick about your whereabouts, ma’am.” She stated.

Sandra scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Sometimes I wonder if I am the mother or David is my father. Get me a glas-sof water.”

“Okay, ma’am.”

Margaret bowed her head and went away.

Sandra’s phone started ringing, disrupting the quietness of the house.

She quickly drew out her phone from the black trousers she was wearing and answered the call after seeing the caller ID.

“Marshall,” She breathed.

“Hey, babe. How did it go?” He asked her.

Sandra bites her bottom li-p almost drawing out blood. “Marshall…” She called out nervously, her breathing picking up.

“Sandra, what is it? What happened?” Marshall asked worriedly when he noticed the fear and nervousness in her voice.

Margaret returned with a glas-sof water and handed it over to her madam.

Sandra collected it with trembling hands and the glas-ssuddenly sli-pped out of her fingers and dropped to the ground.

“fuc-k !” She hissed, taking a step back.

“Ma’am, are you okay?” Margaret asked.

“Ye…yes. I’m sorry, clean this mess up.”

“Okay. Let me get you another_”

“No.” Sandra cut the woman off, shaking her head. “Don’t worry about that. I’m no longer thirsty.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah. Just clean this place up.” Sandra turned around and started climbing the stairs when she speak on the phone. “Marshall, are you still there?”

“Yes. What happened?”

“I mistakenly dropped a glas-sof water.” She explained.

“Are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?”

She shook her head and then realized that he couldn’t see her and she probably have to answer with words.

“Yes, I’m okay.”

It was silent for a moment until he spoke up once again.

“Sandra, you sound really scared and worried. What is going on? Did you go to the hospital? How did the plan go?”

Sandra opened the door of her bedroom and walked in. “I made a mistake, Marshall. I made a very terrible mistake.”

“What are you talking about?”

••••

Robert descended the stairs and went straight into the kitchen, his face dropped when he found Richa-rd seated on the stool, making himself a cup of coffee.

“Are you still here?” Robert asked in a bored tone, gro-aning at the back of his throat and taking out a glas-scup from the cupboard.

“As you can see. Are you hungry?”

“Nah. Not really. Besides, you can’t cook.”

“Hey, that’s offensive. I was the one who taught you how to cook, remember?”

“Tsk. You wish.”

Robert poured himself a glas-sof orange juice and gulped down a large quantity, letting out a de-ep breath of relief.

“fuc-k , I needed this.” He gestured at the glas-sof orange juice.

“I can see that.” Richa-rd smiled, grabbed his mug of coffee, and turned to face his best friend. “I will leave after drinking this,”

“You can spend the night here if you want, man. It’s already late for you to drive back home.”

“Is that you worrying about me, Robert?” Richa-rd teased, smirking.

“Ugh. Forget I said anything.” Robert walked out of the kitchen.

Richa-rd chug-ged down the whole coffee in the mug, rinse the cup, and left the kitchen as well.

“Thanks anyway.” He calls out from behind Robert. “But I should leave.”

“Okay.”

“Okay? I thought you are going to persuade me to stay.”

“I told you already. It’s your choice to stay or leave. I can’t persuade you to do anything.” He said.

“Hmm. You are such a mystery, bruh. I wonder if the beautiful detective will be able to unravel you.”

“Get the hell out of my house,” Robert growled, a ghost smile on his face as he thought of Emma.

What was she doing now? Was she sleeping? Eating? Chatting with her best friend? Or watching a movie? She could even be solving some irrelevant case. Or working out. Emma was an unusual girl and most of the things she does are all out of the ordinary. That makes her unique, though. That makes her…

Richa-rd poked Robert’s arm, pulling him out of his thoughts. “Are you thinking about her?” He wiggled his brows.

“Okay, that’s it.” Robert started dragging Richa-rd towards the front door. “You’ve overstayed your welcome. Get the fuc-k out of my damn_”

His phone started ringing, interrupting him.

He brou-ght it out of his pocket and stared down at the caller ID. It was the chief executive officer. Mr. Desmond.

Robert furrowed his brows, wondering why his boss would be calling him by this time of the night. Did something happen? Well, there was only one way he can find out.

He walked away from Richa-rd and answered the call, bringing the phone to his ear.

“Hello, sir.”

“Detective Robert, how are you?”

“I’m fine, sir.”

“I have been trying to reach Detective Emma but she not taking her calls so I decided to call you instead.”

Robert nodded slowly, shoving his other hand inside his pocket. “Is there a problem, sir?”

“The murderer is back.”

Desmond doesn’t need to say anything else to elaborate on what he meant by that because Robert immediately understood, he gritted his teeth while his jaw was clenched and his face as ha-rd as a rock.

“I will call Emma asap.” He said, hanging up the call to dial his partner’s number.

Shit was about to take place.
