“I’m so sorry for arriving late.” Abby apologized, sitting down opposite Jersey. “I was stuck up in traffic.”

“You are finally here. I almost thought you stood me up.” Jersey said with a warm smile on his face.

“What? And why will I do that exactly?” It was a rhetorical question. “I’m really sorry once again.”

He waved her off. “It’s okay. You are here now and that’s what matters.”

“Yeah. Have you ordered anything?”

“How will that make me look if I did order something without you?” He gave her a playful pointed look.

Abby chuckled and nodded her head. “Yeah, right.”

Jersey waved to a waiter pa-ssing by. The waiter noticed them and walked down to their table.

“Good evening, sir. Good evening, ma’am.” He placed two menus in front of them each. “While you go throu-ghthe menu, do you want anything to drink?”

“Get us red wine, please.” Jersey ordered.

“Okay, sir.” The waiter bowed his head a little bit and left.

“Hope you are fine with red wine?” He asked Abigail.

“Yeah. Of course.” She smiled, nodding her head.

“Okay. Good.” He went throu-ghthe menu and sighed. “You know what,” He closed the menu and dropped it on the table. “I will have what you are having.”

“Are you sure?” She asked him.

“Yes.”

The waiter returned with a tray containing a bottle of red wine and two flutes. He dropped it on the table and poured the red wine inside the flutes for each of them.

“Have you decided what to eat?” He asked.

Abby closed the menu and handed it back to the waiter who collected it and also the one he gave to Jersey.

“Get us your best food here.” She told him.

He smiled. “Okay, ma’am. And you too, sir?”

“Yes, please.” Jersey smiled.

The waiter nodded his head and left them once again.

They both quietly sipped from their gla-sses of red wine, not saying a word to each other until Jersey decided to break the silence.

“If I knew letting you visit ward 302 would gain me a reward like this, I would have let you see her since.” He joked.

Abby chuckled. “I really appreciate your kind gesture, sir. Tara is like a little sister to me and I am ready to do anything for her.” She said.

“By anything…what are they?” He questioned.

She thought about it for a second. “I don’t know. Maybe doing unimaginable things. Making a decision that hurts me but I think was for the best.”

“And what decision if I may ask?”

She shrugged. “I can’t say, I’m sorry.”

How was she going to tell the director of the hospital that she gifted ward 302 with a lot of goodies? Of course, he might scold her for it. Being the fact that she had made a mistake once by giving the girl a cupcake that she was allergic to and almost caused her harm. Abby still scolds herself for doing something as stupid as that.

The waiter returned with their order and placed them on the table before walking away to attend to a trio family that was seated at the table not far from where Jersey and Abby were seated.

“Let’s dig in,” Jersey said.

“Yeah. Bon appetite.” She smiled.

“Same to you.”

They both started eating the food but were rudely interrupted by the ringtone of Abby’s phone.

“I’m sorry.” She apologized and ignore the call, putting the phone on silent.

“Are you sure you don’t want to take the call?”

“I think it will be rude if I do.” She answered.

“I don’t mind.”

“But…”

The phone continued vibrating on the table.

“Take the call, Dr. Abby. I don’t mind.” He said again.

“Uhm…Okay.” She tapped on the green box for answer and brou-ght the phone up to her ear. “Hello?”

“Abby!” Emma’s breathless voice came over in the other line.

“Emma, hey. I’m quite busy right now. Why_”

“I’m in Santos hospital.” Emma cut her off.

“Santos hospital?” That drew Jersey’s attention as he looked up at her. “What are you doing over there? Are you sick? Why didn’t you tell me? Did something happen?”

“Calm down, Abby. Listen, whatever I tell you now…please don’t panic.” She pleaded.

Abby pinched her brows together, wondering what Emma was talking about.

First, she said she was in her place of work and now she is asking her not to panic with whatever she was about to say. What is really going on?

“Emma, what is happening? Are you pregnant?” She blurted out before she could stop herself.

“What? Of course not!” Emma grunted.

“Then what are you saying? Why are you in the hospital by this time of the night?” She queried, doing the exact thing Emma asked her not to do. She was panicking.

Jersey’s phone started ringing as well. He pulled it out of his inner suit jacket pocket and answered the call.

“Hello?”

Abby blocked his voice away to listen to her best friend’s.

“A murder took place in the hospital where you work, Abby. The murderer of two years ago is back.”

Abby could see the look on Jersey’s face, it was kinda obvious that he just had the same news as her.

“Mu…murder?” She repeated. “The murderer of two years ago is back?” She scoffed. “What are you even talking about?”

“Tara is dead, Abby. She was the psychopath’s next victim. I’m so sorry but_”

Abigail did not hear Emma’s next words or the next word after them…in fact, she couldn’t hear any damn thing around her surrounding. It was as if she was thrown back into the water in the bathtub where the place was full of void and darkness. A place she couldn’t breathe or talk. A place that made her feel like she was suffocating to death.

Tara was dead…

Tara was dead…

Tara was dead…

Those were the only words her brain could register as her phone sli-pped off her fingers and her mouth hung open.

She saw Jersey hang up his phone call and started talking to her about something she couldn’t quite understand because, at that point, she was brain-dead.

He stood up and rushed to stand in front of her, shaking her back to reality but instead, she closed her eyes and welcomed the darkness, dropping unconscious right into his arms.
