There’s really nothing better than having a second chance. Ever since my ex husband was taken out of the equation, my life seemed new and totally different.

Having Luan’s child and then marrying him seemed all like dream, just years ago I was is boss but now I’m his wife and mother of his child. My late father or any of my relatives wouldn’t approve of this but this is my life and my choice, so because of that I never wrote or announced to any one about the changes I was going through in South Africa I figured out this would be best for me not to cause any commotion.

Life with Luan was bitter sweet, there was some good moments and there were some complicated ones. This was my first time of experiencing what marriage life was like, my previous marriage was nothing but a farce.

Despite the difficulties, Luan and I managed to stay together and raise our family. It’s been 3 years since I became Luan’s wife and I was hoping that things would remain the same but then something happened that changed all that.

On the hot afternoon October 25th 1944, I received a letter from Aunt Patricia and in the letter, she wrote that my presence was needed back at home in Scotland due to some urgent family issue. She also mentioned that all our family members would be there as well. I was shocked cause I knew how serious this was and if I didn’t show up, it would be an insult to my family members.

Hours later in the night after tucking my son in bed, I laid on my bed quietly thinking about what I was going to do. I just can’t stay here and leave my husband and child here, considering the war that is going on around the world who knows whether I’m going to make it there and even if I did, there’s no guarantee that I might make it back to South Africa. The war with Hitler was getting much more heated and bloody, lots of innocent people have been caught in the cross fires of war and I don’t want to be among them.

In that moment, Luan walked into the room looked a little bit upset, he joined me in bed turned his back at me without even saying anything.

Elizabeth Honey.. Are you okay?

Luan Uhm.. I’m fine.

Elizabeth I don’t believe you. Tell me, what’s going on?

Luan NOTHING OKAY!!
