OCTOBER, 1944…

Four years passed since that dramatic night in Elizabeth’s house and quite alot of things had happened during that time.

After the death of Wilhelm ; Quincy, Toby and I disposed the body of the German and his men but before that could happen, Quincy took pictures of the bodies so as to use it as evidence to clear our names and after that, the man left and life was back to normal.

A year later, Elizabeth gave birth to a baby boy whom we named Richard and after that we married a couple of months later. The wedding wasn’t that much of an occasion, the only guests in the wedding were Elizabeth’s friends, Toby, Jeremiah, Peter, Marian and the farm house servants. Despite the little number of guests, the wedding was a nice one but the only down size was that Pastor Bernard had to be the one to wed us. The racist b–stard wasn’t exactly thrilled with our union, he kept frowning at me during the whole occasion and then a couples of days after the wedding, he ridiculed Elizabeth and I in the church.

A year later after our wedding , Elizabeth and I decided to renovate her house and get rid of her father’s old stuff. She wanted the house to look new and so we went to work. Instead of asking Toby and I for help, Elizabeth used her money and hired renovators to fix the house. It was expensive but she didn’t mind.

Living as a couple proved to be quite a challenge for Elizabeth and I, we faced so many problems which includes ridicule and resentment from our white neighbors who would make snide remarks about us, apart from that Elizabeth and I had our own personal problems as a couple especially when it comes to building up our family and maintaining our private lives.

Elizabeth was the kind of lady that tends to be clingy, she barely gives me enough space to do my thing. Whenever I come back late at night, she would lash out at me and accuse me of seeing other women outside . Sometimes she would just act up strangely for no reason trying to get me to be mad and when she gets like this, I would leave the house and return some hours later after she has calmed down.

Whenever I go over to Toby’s house and tell him about what I was going through, the old chap would just laugh and say ;-

Toby Thank God, I didn’t get married. Marriage life is so complicated. You’re in for a hot mess but whatever happens, just love her, be patient and tolerant with her. Women are crazy, just handle them delicately and they’ll start to come around, you’ll see.

I always respect Toby’s advice cause if there’s anyone that knows a lot about women, it’s him. So I followed his advice and managed Elizabeth delicately. It’s not every time that she’s behaves like this, there are times were we have some good moments especially at night when we make love. That’s the time that I have dominance over Elizabeth and if I managed to make her feel really good, she tends to behave gently like a kitten from time to time.
