Today’s date is 17th June 1940 which marks my 60th day in South Africa ; I’ve been here for 2 months now and I have to say quite a lot of things have happened and the most interesting one among them is my friendly relationship with Luan.

In all my life I’ve never seen a more interesting man than Luan, He’s quite noisy individual and hard to control but he’s good all the same.

The best part about him was that he’s comical and he certainly knows how to please people. He also knows how to lighten someone’s mood and it was because of him I began to enjoy my stay here in South Africa.

Whenever I felt bored or lonely, Luan would come over to keep me company, Sometimes I would call him over so that we could talk. Spending time with Luan was never boring, he always talks about interesting topics and he always manages to put a smile on my face with his romanic praises ; I’ve taken time to write about my moments with him in my diary and whenever I did that I would always think about Luan.

Although my relationship with Luan was based on a friendly level, I secretly began to have feelings for him. At first, I ignored my feelings and began to scold myself repeatedly about having a relationship with a black man but as I kept spending time with him, I soon fell for him completely.

Later that afternoon, I was in my room reading a novel when Marian came into my room, I was so absorbed in the novel that I didn’t notice her at all, It was after some minutes that I realized her presence.

Elizabeth Marian!!

Marian Yes ma.

Elizabeth You should learn to notify me of your presence.

Marian Sorry ma… I didn’t want to disturb your reading.

Elizabeth Never mind.. So what is it? Why are you here?

Marian. Uhm.. The post man just came in with a letter and also there are guests waiting in the living room.

.

Elizabeth Guests??

.

Marian Yes.. It’s Mrs. Erica and the others.

.

Elizabeth Oh God!.. Pass me the letter and Tell them I’ll be joining them soon.

.

Marian Alright ma.

.

Immediately Marian handed me the letter she walked out of the room and I on the other hand opened the letter and began to read it.

The letter was from my husband and he indicated that he wouldn’t be seeing me for a long time ; I felt really annoyed that he didn’t even show any sign concern towards me, He didn’t even bother to ask how I was.

It’s been months since we last saw each other and the least he could have done was to show some little sign of love and care. After I was done reading the letter, I tore it into many pieces and threw it outside my window and as soon as I did that, I left my room and went downstairs to meet my guests.

Here in my living room, Erica, Rebecca and Dolores were busy chattering and exchanging gossips when I walked in. I sat next to Dolores so that I could get what they were talking about but I soon realized they were just talking about their s–xual escapades.

Erica My God… Last night was incredible.. Ahh.. That ape nearly split me in half.

Rebecca Really? So how long did he last?

Erica 40 to 50 minutes at least.

Dolores Hmm, you’re not the only one who’s been getting all this excitement.. I too shared my bed with a farmer 2 days ago. I cried throughout our love making.

Rebecca (laughs) Oh Dolores… He must have felt really good inside you.

Erica What about you Elizabeth?

Rebecca Why are you asking her? She doesn’t know how to enjoy her life.

.

Elizabeth Living a life of sin isn’t enjoyment.

.

Erica Stop being a hypocrite.. Nobody is pure my dear… Just enjoy yourself while you’re still young.

.

Rebecca (laughs) Or Alive.

.

Dolores Uhm.. Elizabeth, can we get something to drink? I’m quite thirsty.

.

Elizabeth Oh Sorry where are my manners?… MARIAN?? MARIAN??

.

Shortly after that, Marian came running into the room ; she stood right next to me looking at me like a hungry cat.

Marian Yes ma… You called?

..

Elizabeth Yes.. Can you get some drinks for my guests?

.

Marian Including you?

.

Elizabeth No.. Just the 3 of them.

.

Marian Alright ma.

.

After getting my orders, Marian quickly left the room, leaving an impression on Erica and the others.

Erica My… What a loyal servant.

.

Dolores And a good looking one too.

.

Rebecca How do you cope with her Elizabeth?

.

Elizabeth She’s very obedient and nice. In fact she’s my most trusted servant.

.

Erica Alright enough of this servant talk… Let’s talk about you Elizabeth… Have you heard anything from your husband?

.

Elizabeth Yes.. I got a letter from him today… He said that I wouldn’t be seeing him for some time.

.

Rebecca Miserable dog!! You should divorce him.

.

Elizabeth Why??

.

Erica Listen friend… Your husband doesn’t give a shit about you.. We heard rumors that these soldiers sleep with prostitutes every now and then.

.

Elizabeth You seriously expect me to believe that my husband is cheating on me?

.

Rebecca Come on Elizabeth… Men can’t suppress your urges that easily and now that they’re fighting in war , don’t you think that gives them the opportunity to relieve their s–xual needs with some b–tch. Sum it up and see… The soldiers can’t just be fighting all the time, they need to relax and have some fun and do you think they drink beers or play cards alone?

In that moment, I began to think about Rebecca’s words and there was some truth in what she said. I hate it when Rebecca is right, it makes me feel dim witted and gullible.

Before Rebecca could say more, Luan appeared into the room with a tray of 3 glass cups filled with wine. His sudden appearance made us keep quiet, all we did was stare at him in awe.

Luan Afternoon ladies, here’s your drinks… Afternoon Mrs. Elizabeth, you look lovely as ever.

Erica My goodness.

.

Elizabeth (blushing) Thank you Luan.

.

Luan You’re highly welcome.. Is there anything else that you might need?

Elizabeth Er… No. You can go now.

.

Luan As you wish Milady.

.

After that Luan gave me a small bow before leaving the room and as soon as he was gone, Erica and the others began to inquire about him.

Erica Is that Luan?

.

Elizabeth You know him?

.

Erica Of course.. We all do.. It’s been a while since we last saw him. Such a darling boy.

Rebecca My goodness.. He’s grown into quite charming man.. I thought he was in the war fighting Hitler.

.

Dolores What’s with that act of his?

.

Elizabeth Don’t mind him.. He does that every time.

.

Erica And from the look on your face, you seem to be enjoying it.

.

Rebecca Well, he sure has excellent taste in women.

.

Elizabeth What’s that suppose to mean?

.

Rebecca Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed?

.

Elizabeth Noticed what?

.

Rebecca He’s trying to impress you. He wants you.

.

Elizabeth No.. No.. No.. He’s just being nice.

.

Rebecca Oh please.. You don’t know these African men.. They’ll do anything to get laid with a white woman.

Elizabeth You’re just making this up.

Erica Come on Elizabeth.. If Rebecca is right, this might be a chance for you to get the fun you’ve been missing all along.

Elizabeth Are you seriously suggesting what I’m think?

Erica Of course… I’m certain Luan would give you a good time.

.

Elizabeth This is insane. I.. I can’t do this.

.

Dolores Come on Elizabeth, you’ll enjoy it. Besides it’s going to take a while before you see your husband again.

Rebecca The best thing about all this is strict confidentiality. Nobody needs to know.

.

Elizabeth Look.. I don’t care.. I’m just not going to engage in such act.

.

Erica Okay then.. If you say so.

.

Rebecca Okay Elizabeth… It’s time for us to go… We have other engagements to attend to. Oh and by the way, there’s a new pub that just opened.. The 3 of us will be going, are you interested in joining us?

Elizabeth No Thanks.

.

Erica Suit yourself… Alright then later darling.

.

Dolores Hold on… Let’s finish our drinks first.

.

After the 3 ladies gulped down their drinks they took their leave ; as soon as they were gone, I went back to my bedroom to continue reading my novel. As I arrived there moments later, I began to think about what Rebecca and co. said. Honestly, I really don’t approve of the idea of cheating on my husband but It’s been long since I got laid and I’m doing my best to hold back my urges as long as I can but I don’t think I can last that long.. It’s only a matter of time before I give in to temptation and lust, Oh may God give me strength.
