PRIVIOUSLY ON REINCARNATION

From outside his hut sounded the voice of Dike his friend.

“Onye no ya eehh? (whose home?]”. He shouted.

“Dike my friend, please come over to my obi”. Dinta responded as Dike made his way into his resting hut.

CONTINUATION

“Dinta, just look at you my friend, you’re still blind. If you had followed my instructions, you would have regained your sight by now. But as a friend, I am still willing to assist you, I can help take you to Oshimiri if you wish. Oshimiri can make you see again”. Dike told him.

“Thank you Dike my good friend, my blindness is of the gods and at the appropriate time, they will make me see again”. Dinta responded.

“Do not bring the gods into this matter Dinta, you and I knows that Olamma, that evil child of yours is responsible for your blindness. If you would, I can take you to Oshimiri who is a mediator between humans and reincarnated ones, he can make you see again”. Dike added.

“I will think about it Dike, thank you once again for your concern, I shall send for you when I make up my mind to see Oshimiri”.

“Okay Dinta my good friend, I shall be expecting to hear from you and Oshimiri is ever ready to attend to you. I have some kolanuts for you, do you mind?”. Dike asked.

“Thank you my friend, I do not want to have kolanut this morning. I seek the face of the gods”. He answered.

“Okay my good friend, I shall be expecting to hear from you. Let me take my leave now”.

“O my friend, the gods be with you”. Dinta said as Dike took his leave.

After Dike left, Adanna served Dinta breakfast and left for the farm with Olamma on her back.

“The gods be with you my wife, I shall leave for hunting as soon as I’m done with breakfast”. Dike told her.

“O nna anyi, please take care of yourself and may the gods be with you”. She responded and left with Olamma.

When Dinta was done with breakfast, he took his matchette and left for Oshimiri’s shrine as instructed by Olamma. His mission was to cut down all the scent leaves sorrounding the shrine.

Dinta made his way through the bushpath that led to the shrine, it was a quiet walk to the shrine. Everywhere was calm and serene, it was a time when everyone had gone to the farm or hunting. No one was seen around, even though the shrine of Oshimiri is out of bounds to anyone who do not have anything to do with the shrine.

Dinta stood afar and observed the environment, there a large number of scorpions guiding the shrine round it. It would be difficult to get any closer to the shrine, behind it was the cobra that guides it from the other side and also serves as a life to Oshimiri. Dinta stood for a while and after observing, went straight to the shrine. He only had to kill seven out of it before he could gain access to the cobra, once seven of the scorpions are killed, others would automatically die.

A number of the scorpions attacked Dinta, stinging him from every part of his body; the stungs were excruciatingly painful and as such weakened him. He had to eat from the scent leaves to neutralize it’s potency, but the scorpions never allowed him any closer to the leaves. He was so weak and dying of the poison of the scorpions.

While he was down weak, more scorpions stung him. He was able to crawl to the leaves and ate some, then he was strengthened to fight on. He killed three of the seven he was there to kill and while he fought, more and more scorpions stung him. He ate again from the leaves and was strengthened, again, he killed three more and had one to kill before he would focus on cutting the scent leaves. This time, more scorpions gathered him, not allowing him any space to use his matchette and get any closer to the leaves. He was stung on every part of his body, again, he fell to the ground so weak. Unable to raise his hands or get hold of his matchette. After a long period of struggle between life and death, he was able to get another leaf and ate, he was strengthened and was able to get hold of his matchette. He killed the last of the seven scorpions and all others in their numbers died. He rested a while before cutting the scent leaves round. It took him about an hour to cut down all the leaves, alas! He was done with cutting down the leaves, then he made for the cobra.

Oshimiri, sensing danger from where he was decided to hurry down to his shrine.
