PRIVIOUSLY ON REINCARNATION

Olamma was awake and was aware of the rituals performed by Dike and Oshimiri. At night, when Dinta was alseep, she appeared to him again in form of the old woman to tell him what to do.

“They are both prepared for you, both Dike and Oshimiri, I shall tell you what to do”. She said as Dinta paid attention.

CONTINUATION

Dike and Oshimiri are both deadly, they possess evil powers that sometimes seems they are real. That is why Oshimiri can proffer solutions to so many ailments and they will seem real. He has the charms that works against ogbanje(s), such charms are so powerful that they can keep one off balance. About a hundred years ago, when you and I were buried alive for what we knew nothing about, I immediately reincarnated because I knew all that happened. You were but a little boy, so you didn’t know anything that happened at the time. Since our deaths were painful and I was not given the chance to express myself, I decided no one would know peace. I had to make sure you too did not die, the reason I had allowed you to return all these years. In my first world, I was peaceful and remains peaceful, that was why the spirits had been on our side. With Dike and Oshimiri still living, our spirits would never know peace”. Olamma told Dinta in the dream.

“So, I am your son?”. Dinta asked.

“Yes Dinta, you are that son of mine that was buried with me many years ago. That was why I had refused to depart from you. You must be the one to carry on with your with your father’s wealth and legacies. In this generation, you are his great grandson, but in the real sense, you were his first son”. She told him.

“What would be done to take them off the way?”. He asked.

“There was a charm prepared for Dike by Oshimiri, as long as Dike is with the charm, he will continue to weaken us whenever we are around him and he (Oshimiri) just gave him another charm in liquid form, that is to further keep us or other ogbaje(s) at arms length. And with those charms still with Dike, it would be difficult to get to him”. She explained further.

“What do I do?”. He asked again.

“If you can lay your hands on the liquid charm Oshimiri prepared for Dike, then you have succeeded in getting to Dike and Oshimiri. But it would be a difficult thing to do, there are evil forces shielding Dike from anyone getting to him and the liquid charm is kept where the charm meant to weaken ogbanje(s) are. Once you see that charm, it would weaken you”. She further said.

“Is the liquid substance the only way to get to Oshimiri and Dike?”. Dinta asked again.

“No my son, the other way is the destroy the source of Oshimiri’s powers”.

“What is the source of his powers?”. He asked, paying more attention.

“Behind his shrine is a cobra which venoms gives him power to perform, cut off the head of the cobra and anything that has to do with Oshimiri would be no more; including Dike and his likes”.

“I know getting to that cobra won’t be easy, but I’ll try. I have to get to Oshimiri in order to finish Dike”.

“That would be the best thing to do my son, secondly, there are some scent leaves planted round Oshimiri’s shrine. Those leaves are the reason I can’t get close to his shrine, if you can get those leaves cut down; I can help you cut off the cobra’s head”. She said again.

“What are the possible impediment I might encounter trying to cut down the leaves”. Dinta asked.

“They are sorrounded by scorpions and the scorpions are highly poisonous if any of them stung you. But if you can kill sevdn out of them, you have succeeded in killing all”.

“Thank you mother, I shall get myself ready for this huge task”. He said feeling excited.

“Oshimiri will be away from his shrine for three days, use those days to get the leaves cut down, else there might be no other time to do so. He would be gone for reinforcement and when he returns, it might spell doom for you and I. Those period of his absence, the scorpions would be more aggressive and venomous. He would entrust the safety of the shrine in their care, but should any of the scorpion stings you, eat from the scent leaves, they have the antidote for their bites”. She added.

“Okay mother, the information I’ve just got from you would go a long way. I must find a way and do anything possible to make your soul rest in peace”. Dinta assured.

“With Dinta and Oshimiri gone and you have the desired peace required. I have told you the reason I kept returning and, now that you know everything, my spirit will be at rest. Dike would be here at dawn, pretend you are still blind, he would be here with his charms and they can only have effect on you when you look at them with your eyes. He would pretend to be a friend again in other to get at you, just close your eyes and listen to whatever he has to say”. She added.

“Okay nnem (my mother), I shall do all you have said”. He responded.

“May the gods be with you my son”. She said and disappeared, and then Dinta woke up, at dawn; Dike came visiting.

OSHIMIRI'S SHRINE

Oshimiri performed some rituals and fortified himself in preparation to his journey of three days.

“Eke, Orie, Afo, Nkwo”. He consulted the spirits that worked for him. “I go to the mountains to seek more powers against Olamma and Dinta, I know they are both battle ready; please grant me success and protect my shrine in my absence”. He said, performed more rituals and left.

DINTA'S OBI (RESTING HUT)

From outside his hut sounded the voice of Dike his friend.

“Onye no ya eehh? (whose home?]”. He shouted.

“Dike my friend, please come over to my obi”. Dinta responded as Dike made his way into his resting hut.
