PRIVIOUSLY ON REINCARNATION

“But one thing is required of you before you could be made to see again”. Ijele added.

“What could that be Ijele nwanyioma?”. Asked an anxious Dinta.

“Someone close to you is responsible for your blindness and only when you do away with the person shall you recover your sight”. Ijele told him.

“Who could that be Ijele nwanyioma?”. Asked Dinta again.

“Go home and do as I’ve said”. She added and went back into her cave.

CONTINUATION

Dinta and Dike left Ijele’s cave and made for the road that leads back to Umunze through the bush path.

“Ijele have said it all Dinta, do away with that evil child and regain your sight. You can now see she’s responsible for your blindness”. Dike told him leading the way back to Umunze.

“Ijele didn’t mention Olamma’s name, he said I should do away with someone so close to me and Ola is not close to me”. Dinta responded.

“Then who is? Is it your wife Adanna that is responsible for your blindness or myself? Because as far as I’m concerned, the three of us are the most closest to you and Olamma is the one giving you trouble. Do away with that evil child and have your peace, except you want to remain blind for the rest of your life”. Dike advised.

“I know what to do, please take me home”. Dinta said

“Whatever it is you know how to do, please do it fast; Ola must be taken off the way”. Dike added as he led Dinta home.

Dinta got home and his wife was surprised to see him blind as Dike led him into his hut.

“Nna anyi, ogini? (What is it?), what happened to your sight?. She asked many questions in one expressing anxiety.

“It is a long story nwunyem (my wife). Dinta answered and then spoke to Dike. “Thank you Dike my good friend, you have been a true friend indeed. I want to have some rest now, you can come back later at sunset”. Dinta told him.

“Odimma ezigbo enyim (it’s okay my good friend, please do as I have told you and do not hesitate to send for me if anything comes up.”. He said and turned to Dinta’s worried wife. “Please take good care of him and come to me if there’s any development”.

“I will nna anyi, thank you very much. May the gods reward you”. Adanna showed appreciation.

“Thank you my brother Dike, I’ve heard all you said. Go well my good friend”.

Dike left, Adanna moved to Dinta with Olamma on her back and sat close to him.

“I discovered you didn’t want to speak when mazi Dike was around, what happened to your sight?”. She asked anxiously.

“Where is Olamma my daughter?”. He asked with a smile.

Olamma chuckled as she heard Dike’s question. “She’s right here on my back. She chuckled sweetly at your question”. Responded his surprised wife.

“How is her health, is she still having high fever?”.

“Not anymore, she has been fine and hasn’t shown any signs of fever again since you left”.

“That is good, please bring her to me”. He requested, and Adanna with no hesistance brought down the child and handed her over to Dinta.

“My child, my beautiful daughter”. He said touching all over her body. “I shall henceforth shower with so much love, I know I’ve have not been a good father to you in time past, but I shall henceforth be that father you have always desired”. Dinta said to the amazement of his wife who expressed shock at his words.

“Nna anyi, you sound so different today. Are you saying this because you’re blind and needs Olamma’s help or what? I am confused and secondly, you’ve not told me the cause of your blindness”. She said.

“You will not understand my wife, please get me something to eat”. He told her as she left for the kitchen to get him something to eat. She came back after some minutes with a clay bowl of boild cocoyam and palm oil and served him. He ate them all as his wife watched in amazement, he hadn’t eaten since the previous night.

“Nna anyi, what is it? You are acting so strange”. She asked again.

“There is no problem my wife, you will be made to understand when the time is right. Take Olamma back to your hut, I want to have some rest now. Should Dike return, tell him I am not in”. He said.

“Okay nna anyi”. She responded still expressing surprise, she left with Olamma to her hut and Dinta was left to have his rest.

At sunset, Dike returned to know how Dinta was faring. Dinta was in his hut and heard him calling his name.

“Dinta my good friend, are you in?”. He asked and got no response, he called severally and no one responded. Adanna had gone to her farm behind the hut to get some vegetables to prepare dinner. While Dike was about entering Dinta’s hut, Adanna called him from behind.

“Nna anyi Dike, ndewo (greetings). My husband is not in, he went to see his sister at Amaeke”. She told him.

“Who took him to Amaeke, he can’t see to go that far?”.

“You’re right nna anyi, the sister was here soon after you left. She was not pleased with his condition, hence she decided to go help him find solution to the blindness”. She told him.

“Dinta is always stubborn, the solution he needs to get back his sight is with him and not in Amaeke, he knows what to do. When is he coming back”. An angry Dike asked.

“That I cannot tell, the sister only told me he would return as soon as solution is found”.

“That means you are not even sure of his coming back anytime soon?”. He asked.

“Yes nna anyi, I am not sure”. She responded.

Dike left in anger and Adanna went in to the hut to see her husband who overheard all their discussion.

“Has he gone?”. He asked.

“Yes he’s gone”. She answered. “He said you have the solution to regaining back your sight”. She said.

“Yes I do, and I shall find the solution soon. Just be calm, you will understand with time”. He told her and she left for the kitchen to make dinner, she left Olamma with Dinta as he requested.
