PRIVIOUSLY ON REINCARNATION

“Go home my son, the ways of the spirits are not the ways of mere mortals. Go home, you shall understand”. Agbalanze said and vanished with the flame of fire. Dinta and Dike were led out of the cave by the dwarf and made their way back home.

BUSH PATH

“Why is Agbalanze finding it difficult to tell me about Olamma?. He was the one who asked that I return after seven days and I was truly hoping he would proffer me a solution”. An angry Dinta said.

“Calm down my friend, we must find a way to end Olamma’s return, with or without the help of Agbalanze. Calm down and let’s go take some fresh palm wine”. Dike advised as they walked home.

That night, while Dike was asleep, Olamma visited again.

CONTINUATION

“Evil child, what do you want again? Have I not warned you to stay away from me?”. Dike said and made for his charm kept beside his bed.

“I want you to stay away from what does not concern you, I do not want to hurt you Dike. You are my father’s best friend, just stay away and let’s live in peace. I am for peace, if I had wanted to kill you, I would have long before now. I know who prepares your charms, I know the source of his powers, just stay clear and you will have peace. I do not want to hurt you, before you were born, I have been in existence Dike; be warned!”. Olamma told him.

“You are nothing but a little child Olamma, you know nothing. It won’t take me anything to finish you, just beware of me. I am more fortified than you think. Just go and continue tormenting Dinta, but it won’t be for long, I shall help him do away with you. I have done it in time past, I will still do it again”. Dike bragged.

“I know you are powerful Dike, I know you are a strong man. But you have limit, the source of your powers are from Ijele, the powerful witch across the seven seas. But I tell you, even Ijele can be tammed, be warned Dike”. Olamma warned again as Dike expressed shock how she got to know the source his powers are from Ijele.

“You are indeed evil, you know about Ijele the most powerful? I shall deal with you Ola, I can and will do it”. He warned.

“A stubborn fly they say follows the corpse to the grave, I have warned you, but I see you want to remain stubborn and adamant. Again, I do not want to hurt you, I don’t hurt those that are close to me, you are a close friend to my father Dinta, do not make me hurt you. But if you push me so hard, I will have no choice but to do the needful”. Ola told him, this time getting angered.

“I await you Ola, do your worst, you can’t do more than a child that you are”. Dike said and removed the charm under his pillow and pointed it at Ola, the charm is specially made for those who reincarnated (Ogbanje). With the charm, he can drive them away not to come back to him again. Ola dissapeared as soon as he pointed the charm at her and that was the beginning of his battle with Ola.

THE NEXT MORNING

Ola took ill, she had high fever as a result of her encounter with Dike the previous night. She had never been sick at this stage of her life all the while she had been reincarnating, it was a big surprise to Dinta and a shock to Uloma her mother.

“Ola has never been sick, she is having high fever, what could be the problem?”. Uloma asked Dinta.

“The gods have finally decided to take this reproach away from me, if she had died in the past at seven after falling sick and she’s now falling sick at this stage of her life, it is a good thing. Let her go so we could have peace again, I shall go and get Oshimiri at once”. He got up and left for Oshimiri’s.

BUSH PATH

Dinta decided to go to Dike before going to Oshimiri to tell him what had happened. Dike as well was on his way to Dinta’s hut to also tell him of his encounter with Olamma the previous night. While Dinta walked on the lonely bush path that leads to Dike’s hut, he felt a flash of light on his eyes and immediately went blind. He noticed he could not see anything again, even after he had rubbed his eyes severally to know if he was dreaming.

“Ewo!”. He exclaimed. “What is happening to me, have I gone blind or something? I can’t see anything again, gods of our ancestors are you there?”. He cried out aloud as he heard footsteps walking towards his direction.

“Whose there?”. He asked in anxiety.

“Dinta my good friend, what is it?”. The voice of Dike sounded.

“Oh! It’s you Dike my friend, I don’t know what has happened to my eyes, I can’t see anything”. He explained.

Dike moved close to him and held him by his hand, using the other hand to wave at him.

“Can you see me?”. He asked.

“No Dike, I can’t see anything”. Dinta cried.

“What happened, did anything hit or enter your eyes?”. Dike asked.

“Nothing my brother, my wife and I woke up this morning and discovered Ola was having high fever. I was so excited that at last, she would die at this stage of her life, because anytime she had such a high fever, she usually dies after seven days. So I said let me go and get Oshimiri, but I must come see you first before going to Oshimiri. I got to this spot and felt a light very bright flashed in my eyes, and that was it. I discovered I can’t see again”. He narrated.

Dike laughed and tapped him by the shoulder. “Calm down my good friend, you will see again. Olamma is but a child, she was at my place last night to warn me again to stay away from you. After several verbal confrontations between us, I decided to use the charm prepared for me by Ijele nwanyi ike (Ijele the strong woman) on her. The charm was prepared specially for people like her, the ogbanje(s). She disappeared immediately I showed her the charm, what is happening to her is the result of the charm. She’s not going to survive it, but Ijele can make you see again. I shall lead you to Oshimiri, after which I shall take you to Ijele. Olamma must be destroyed”. Dike bragged.

They both left for Oshimir’s as Dike held him by the hand leading the way.

The battle line has been drawn between Dike and Olamma.
