PRIVIOUSLY ON REINCARNATION

“Yes, another mark. It was through marks that children like her were stopped from returning in time past, I do not know why she has remained stubborn. But I’m sure this time, she won’t return again”. Oshimiri said.

Dinta agreed to his suggestion and another mark was given to her, this time a straight mark on her forehead. After the mark, Oshimiri performed more rituals and left.

Two days later, Olamma died and was buried. Three months after her burial, Uloma, her mother went into labour.

CONTINUATION

Uloma delivered a beautiful baby girl, more pretty than Olamma, but still came out with all the marks given to Olamma before she died and in her previous comings. The mother, the women that delivered her of the child were all astonished, Olamma had returned again most of them exclaimed.

Dinta, Uloma’s husband was outside waiting eagerly for the news of another child, possibly a male child. One of the women went outside to give him the news of Olamma’s arrival, this is the 5th time she is returning to the family.

“Nna anyi, she has delivered a beautiful girl”. She said

Dinta’s mood changed, he had expected to hear the news of a boy.

” Did she return with the marks?”. He asked anxiously.

“I’m afraid nna anyi, yes, Ola has returned again. She came back with all the marks given to her, even the last one on her forehead “. She said and left.

” Not again, what have I done to deserve this evil child? Why are the gods punishing me in this manner? Same evil child again, the gods forbid, I won’t accept her”. He said, took his cutlass and hunting gun and left for hunting.

“Where is my husband?”. A weak Uloma asked.

” I left him outside, I had just informed him of the arrival of the child. But he showed no excitement when I told him it was a girl”. Responded Ure, the woman that gave Dinta the news of the baby’s arrival.

“Where is my child?”. She asked

One of the women handed of the baby to her, Uloma looked at her with a smile and kissed her forehead.

” You returned again Ola, you should have given a little time for me to have other children before returning. I can’t stop you from coming back to us. Have you come back this time to stay or return after seven years as usual? The pains it’s causing me are much, I am the one carrying you for nine months and the pains of labour are too much. Why do you derive pleasure in punishing me Ola?”. She asked crying, then the child smiled at her and slept off.

FOREST

Dinta sat under a tree, thinking and asking rhetorical questions to himself.

“If there was any offense committed by my fathers that I know nothing about, would Oshimiri not have told me? He is the eyes of the gods and should be able to have something to say. Why have the gods decided to visit me with pains? I have not done any evil to deserve this evil child, this time, she will get the treatment she deserves from me”. He said in anger and leaned on the tree to rest. His eyes were closed, lost in deep thought as he ruminated over everything.

He slept off while thinking, then he heard a baby’s voice calling his name.

” Dinta, Dinta, Dinta”. He jerked up and quickly made for his gun.

“If I had wanted to kill you, I would have done that long before now. You must accept my return back to your family, you have no choice. Every family has a price to pay for sins they committed directly or indirectly, yours will not be an exception. Treat me well, take whatever evil you habour against me from your heart. I have returned and must be given the name Olamma, how I cherish that name. Treat me well, pamper me and do not invite Oshimiri to treat me whenever I’m sick, I shall choose whether to return again or not”. The voice echoed

“You evil child, go somewhere else and leave my wife and I alone. We are peace loving people and do not deserve the punishment you are metting out on us. Go away, leave our lives alone, we don’t want you Ola, you are evil. Whatever sins committed in the past I know nothing about, leave my life alone”. Dinta replied in a loud voice.

“I should have killed you, but I won’t. I spoke to you calmly like a father, but you chose to toe the path of violence, we shall see”. The voice sounded again and vanished.

“Go, evil child. I do not want to have anything to do with you. Leave me alone”. He said again in a loud voice.

He quickly took his gun and cutlass and left for the hill of Agbalanze, the hill of Agbalanze is where the most powerful medicine man resides. Not everyone visits Agbalanze, you must be brave before you could see Agbalanze.

THE HILL OF AFBALANZE

“Stand still”. A voice sounded. “This is the hill of Agbalanze, what brings you here Dinta from Umunze”.

“I am glad you know my name and where I come from, I am here to see Agbalanze the great. A child has been troubling my family”. He responded.

“A child you said?”. Asked the voice as he chuckles. “Wait, while I consult Agbalanze”. The voice said again and a dwarf appeared afterwards and walked into a cave beneath the hill of Agbalanze. Dinta tried to be brave, the sight of the hill was fearful.

After a while, the dwarf returned and led Dinta into the cave. It takes only the strong to withstand the sight of the cave, Agbalanze is no ordinary creature.

” You are here because of Olamma the reincarnating child”. Agblanze’s voice sounded from a burning fire.

“Yes great one”. Dinta said trembling.

“Be still Dinta, no one comes to Agbalanze trembling. The child Olamma is not evil, but powerful. She only seeks one thing”. Agbalanze said again.

“What does she seek great one”. Asked Dinta.

“That I cannot tell, but go and return again in seven days, you shall be told what to do”. He said and vanished with the fire, then the dwarf led Dinta out of the cave.

Dinta got home worried and could not sleep all night, his wife was in her hut deeply asleep with the child. Then Ola, a child of some days old crawled to Dinta in his hut, he was shocked at what he saw.

“Why did you go to see Agbalanze?”. She asked.
