Fire God Of The Fire Island - Season 1 - Episode 23

☆☆
A Fire of the Soul

But Nootau Chatan would say no more to clarify her words, which indicated to Kate that she had to ponder over them herself. It was like Nootau Chatan was telling her that her only real purpose was to…….be happy. But that wasn’t possible, not with the way Kira was mistreating the people and the Fire council unable to deny her.

Not that there was much she could do personally.

Rather than trying to control the experiences of all others, Nootau, chatan’s words broke through Kat’s thoughts.

‘Instead intend to control your own participation within those experiences’
Again Kate wasn’t sure she understood. “Are you talking about the Fire Council?” she asked “But they-”

‘By setting forth your clear image of the life you want to live, you will be guided, in every moment, toward a smooth and pleasant path for yourself’.

The life she wanted to live? What she wanted and what she had to do where two completely different things.

She couldn’t marry the two together, it wasn’t possible.

It was…..just so confusing.

Nootau Chatan seemed to pick up on her confusion and as she suddenly lowered her regal head further and startled Kate immensely to affectionately nuzzling her beak against her cheek.

‘One more thing before we part for now’.

Timidly, Kate lifted her hand and touched Nootau Chatan’s beak with her fingertips, noting how warm and soft she really is.

“Yes, what is it?”

‘Love others fully and with all your heart, and do not fear, don’t hold back. The more you give, the more will return to you… Be on guard Kate’.

……..Love?

Then abruptly, Nootau Chatan disappeared and Kate found herself back on the training field under the sun. The first thing she saw when Kate opened her eyes was Loki’s face. He was kneeling on the ground before her, his head quirked to the side in interest.

“Well?”
he asked.

Kate took a minute to take stock of herself “That was amazing”, she finally muttered, a sense of awe still enveloping her.

Loki smiled at that “Learn anything?”

“Sort of”,
Kate replied as she furrowed her brow in thought. “I mean, she spoke to me, I could hear her clearly, but I’m not entirely sure what she meant”.

“Speaking in riddles?”
Loki asked with a knowing look before she abruptly sat himself onto the sand in front of Kate, crossing his legs and folding his arms over his chest. “That happens a lot, Fire Beast prefer it if you figure it out on your own. It’s called learning”, he finished with a playful curl.

Kate gave a half chuckle as she folded her hands on her laps. “Right”.

“You think you can do it again?”

Meditate and communicate with Nootau Chatan? Kate nodded her held firmly “…….yeah, I do”.

“Well, that’s great!”
Loki congratulated as he abruptly leaned forward and slapped Kate heavily on the shoulder. He then pulled back and looked somewhat serious. “Anyway, I’m getting hungry. Anything to eat around here?”

kate had to admit that she was rather famished herself. Training and learning new things was a lot of hard work, after all.

“Oh, there’s plently to eat at the Fire Temple”,
she explained with a smile as she climbed to her feet and dusted herself off. “And if we’re lucky, Laura might make something for us”.
Loki tilted his head to the side, a somewhat hopeful, look in his eyes. “She’s a good cook?”

“One of the best”,
Kate easily replied, her smile not fading a bit.

And that caused Loki’s grin to widen and he jumped to his feet as well. “Then let’s go bug the crap out of her!”

Kate had to laugh when Loki snared her by the wrist again and proceeded to drag her back toward the Fire Temple. She noted that Loki liked to take her by the hand a lot, whenever he had the chance. Not that she minded too much. Definitely not as much as Priestessly protocol dictated. And definitely not as much as her Peace Keeper role dmanded.

But….was it really a bad thing? Allowing someone else to get close to her? As much as she loved Laura and Levi, it was nice to have someone who didn’t know (Or cared) that she was the Peace Keeper. And will, she learnt so much from Loki in such a short amount of time. It couldn’t be bad, could it?

Her time was limited, any day she could be sacrificed to the Volcano Obsidian, so it wasn’t too selfish to enjoy herself in others company, was it? The Fire God wouldn’t mind, would he?

Kate really hoped not..
