Fire God Of The Fire Island - Season 1 - Episode 24

☆☆
Dancing With Fire

The walk back to the Fire Temple was a rather silent one. And, yes, Loki still had firm hold on Kate’s wrist and didn’t appear ready to relinquish it anytime soon.

“Hey”,
Loki said suddenly as they walked along the long sandstone trail near the beack entrance of the templet. “I can’t help but notice you seem to admire Laura quite a bit”.

Kate gave a small smile at the mentioning of her friend. “Oh, well, Laura is so good at everything”, She explained, giving a light one shoulder shrug. “Sometimes I feel inadequate around her”.

“You shouldn’t feel inadequate”,
Loki said as he tugged her moving again. “Laura is just like you; human. She wouldn’t like the thought of being placed on a pedestal, would she?”

“No, not at all”,
Kate with a shake of her head as they stepped inside the Fire Temple. “She’s quite humble”.
As they moved further into the temple, Kate spotted Laura at a distance, noting that she was seemingly performing some administrationals duties, carrying a stack of folders and scrolls in her arms.

Suddenly, Loki lifted his hand and pressed a finger to his lips, signalling to Kate to be quite.

Curious, Kate did what she was indicated and watched as Loki let go of her wrist and snuck up behind Laura with such stealth that Laura had no idea she was being followed, too busy going about her tasks.

Then Loki did something that took Kate by totally surprise, Laura even more so. He suddenly launched himself at Laura, pratically jumping on the unsuspecting Priestess and wrapping his arms around her from behind. Laura let out a cute but highly undignified “Wah!” and threw the papers she was holding into the air before they crashed to the floor loudly.

“Gotcha!” Loki announced cheerfully.

“Master Loki!” Laura spluttered loudly in a rather high-pitched voice and Kate’s hand flew up to cover her mouth, hiding a laugh and a smile. She had never seen Laura so frazzled before. She was usually so poised and dignified, untouchable in her class. But seeing her now, her hair messy, her cheeks covered in a blush, her eyes wide in shock; it made her seem more real.

Made her human.

It was rather funny, Kate had to admit. And surprisingly, she didn’t feel a sense of jealously like she had when Loki was first introduced to Laura. Loki knew that Laura was with Levi, so wasn’t doing it to get close to her.

But what made it even funnier was the thought that Levi would be so utterly mad if he happened across Loki and Laura like they are.

“I’m hungry”,
Loki whined as he rested his chin on Laura’s shoulder.
Laura had stopped flailing now and was simply frozen to the stop, still looking frazzled as she looked at Loki from the corner of her eye. “Ah..”

“Kate tells me you can cook”,
Loki carried on, either totally oblivious to Laura’s discomfort or simply didn’t care. Somehow, Kate thought it was the latter of the two.

“Loki”, Kate called out, taking pity upon her friend’s embarrassment. “I think you should get off her now”.

Loki pouted, but did as he was told, easily removing his arms from around Laura and taking a step back. He lifted his arms and folded them casually behind his head, totally unfazed by what he had just did. While Laura appeared to still be swimming in a state of frazzled bewilderment.

“I’m sorry Laura”, Kate apologised to her gentle friend.

Laura blinked, her hands flying up in order to smooth out her hair. “Lady Kate”,

“Only if it’s not too much trouble”,
Kate said with a shy smile. “We are kinda hungry”.

Immediately, Laura returned to her gracious self, straightening her posture and smoothing out her robes. “Oh, of course”.

The food was exquisite as it usually was. Loki enjoyed the meal, announcing that it was officially the best thing he had ever tasted.

Levi appeared half way through the meal and the Fire Guard looked slightly annoyed to put it lightly. He immediately turned on Loki, telling him that he had no right to take advantage of Laura like he did and who the hell he thought he was. Loki, however, was unfazed and simply shoved a bit of food into Levi’s mouth, telling him that he’ll need a lot of food to keep that passionate personality up.
It was nearly war after that, Laura had to separate the two, giving Levi this serious look that immediately quietened him down. Kate didn’t really say or do too much as she was too busy trying to stop herself from laughing out loud. She also wondered if someone told him about the, ah, surprise attack Loki sprung on Laura.
From the way Levi was giving Loki the evil eye and stickling close to Laura (he even discreetly took a hold of her hand under the table), Kate hazard a guess that someone did. And as she and Loki left after having their fill, after thanking Laura immensely, Kate glanced over her shoulder to see Laura trying to explain something to Levi, her hands held in front of her in a pacifying manner.

They were so cute together; Kate was still amazed, she didn’t see what was between them before.
