A Sure- Fire Cure

“That’s great, Kate!” Loki congratulated, wrapping his arms around Kate in a hug, pulling her back so Kate was sitting in his lap while Loki sat on the sandy ground. “You can cast purity Fire Magic. Not many people can”.

Still a little shaky from the adrenaline coursing through her, Kate managed a smile and felt her cheeks heat up. “Thank you, Loki”.

“Don’t mention it”, Loki replied, keeping his arms around Kate as well as keeping her in his lap, holding her as if she was a teddy bear or something to cuddle. “Your powers and belief in yourself are growing by the day. You should be proud of what you’ve done”.
……What has she done?

Kate didn’t know how it was possible for her to grow so quickly. Two days ago she met Loki, yesterday she learned her Spell Binding Circle and met her Fire Beast and today she learnt how to use Purifying Fire Magic. And it was all because of one person.

Loki………who exactly was he?
Kate looked down at her hand in disbelief.
“How did I……..?”

“Don’t be so hard on yourself”, Loki said as he poked her on the forehead. “But at least you know what’s happening to the foxes; they’re not going rabid, they seem to be coming across something toxic to them. Probably a plant or another animal like a posionous toad or something”.

Kate allowed that to mull over in her head for a moment before nodding. It made a lot of sense. If the fox was infected by something like rabies, then she would not have been able to cure it. Well, she had something to inform the farmers with.

Kate’s breath suddenly hitched in her throat when she felt Loki practically nuzzle her with his cheek against hers. She abruptly remembered where she was- in Loki’s lap, being held like someone dear and precious.

Inwardly, she freaked. Outwardly she blushed and made an undignified squeaking noise.

Gah! What was he doing?

With a blush as hot as the flames she could now wield, Kate peered up at Loki through her bangs.

“Could you let go of me now?” she asked.

Loki frowned and gave a whine. “But I’m so comfortable right now”.

Kate feared that if she didn’t get out of Loki arms (and his lap) soon, she’s faint from all the blood rushing to her cheeks, which could only make matter even more awkward. “B-but it’s hard to train if I’m like this, yes?”

Loki suddenly loosened his grip on her, but didn’t relinquish it entirely. “Oh right”, he said as if just remembered why they were on the private training field in the first place.

Suddenly, Kate felt herself being lifted up off Loki’s lap and into the air as Loki took to his feet still holding Kate in his arms. He then swiftly placed her on her own heet, holding her by the shoulders as Kate stumbled from the sudden movement.

And Loki grinned his trademark smile at her. “Hey now that you can use Purifying Fire, let’s see if you can summon your Fire Beast with your Purity and communicate with it!”

Communicate with her Fire Beast so soon?

“Ah, Okay”.

“Great!”
