Fire God Of The Fire Island - Season 1 - Episode 19

☆☆
A Sure- Fire Cure

Kate found herself on the same training field that she had discovered her Fire abilities just yesterday. And yet again she was brought there by Loki himself, the taller man breaking into her room by climbing in through the window and dragging her cheerfully through the Fire Temple by the hand.

And again she had recieved some strange looks from her fellow Priestess, but no one said anything. Laura simply smiled when she caught sight of them, telling Loki to make sure he brought her back safe and sound.

Upon seeing her long-time friend, Kate remembered what she had witnessed last night with her and Levi and she blushed a pretty pink. Laura looked confused, uncertain of her reaction while Loki literally cooed over her and pinched her cheek. Apparently, she was so adorable.

Which only made Kate blush even harder
She couldn’t help it. Looking at Laura made her remember how perfect she was with Levi, watching them as they praticed their Fire Acts together. They were so comfortable, so relaxed with their abilities and with each other. She also didn’t want to admit that she had seen them in an intimate embrace as it would probably cause Laura some embarrassment as well. Which would cause a sense of awkwardness all round.

Except maybe for Loki. Nothing seemed to faze him
“Now”, Loki said as he clapped his hands in front of her, pulling Kate out of her musings and back to reality. “Time for more training”
Kate nodded her head slowly; she knew she needed more training as well. Finding her abilities was just the start. But then a thought occured to her and she grimaced. She remembered one of the things Loki said to her last night and a part of her hoped that he was joking.

“You’re not seriously going to teach me Fire Dance here and now are you?” Kate asked, slightly fearful.
Seriously?

“Nup”, Loki replied cheerfully.
It was a little too cheerful, perhaps, but Kate breathed a sigh of relief anyway. “Ah, well, that’s good”

“I will teach you that tonight when it’s dark and no one else is around”,
Loki added with a wag of his finger and a filrty wink of his eye.

Kate’s shoulders sagged in a sigh of defeat “Oh..” He was serious.

Loki carried on oblivious to her disappointment “It’ll be better at night, trust me”.

“Sure..”
Kate sighed

“Ok, so what should I teach you now?”
Loki murmured to himself as he tapped his chin in thought his eyes turning upwards to look at the sky.

Kate wasn’t sure what Loki should teach her either, so she stayed silent, waiting for the other man to make up his mind. Suddenly, Kate’s attention was drawn to a crunching noise near the edge of the training area. She turned and watched as a few scrubs began to rustle, twigs breaking and snapping. And a slight sense of fear touched her as it could be a wild animal. There had been reports of some rabid foxes in the area that had been tormenting the farmers and the livestock.

Of course the matter was brought to the royal family’s attention, a few days ago actually, but Kira knocked back the proposal of having a select few Fire Guards hunt down the deranged animals and determine what had made them go rogue in the first place.

She said that foxes were a natural occurrence and to simply deal with it themselves. Fire Guards had better things to do, she believed; which was to aid her in any and every little metal task she couldn’t be bothered to do it herself. Or, when she was feeling particularly bored, she would make them do something silly or dangerous just to make her laugh.

Laura was assigned directly to the Fire Temple, so she didn’t have to put up with the ‘Fire Princess’ wild behaviour, fortunately.

“What is it?” Loki asked, noting the rushing of the bushes as well. He had moved to stand slightly in front of Kate, as if to protect her, his posture ready for battle.

“Could be a fox”, Kate replied. “They have been going rabid for the last few days, though we’re not sure why”.

Loki didn’t take his eyes off the bush, but nodded his head as a sign that he heard her. Not a moment after that the rustling stopped as a bundle of reddish, orange fur tumbled out, snarling and gnashing its teeth, rubbing its face along the ground.

It was a Fox and it appeared to be suffering quite badly. It had foam dripping from its lips as it fell to the ground in a twitching heap, its breathing erratic and coming in short gasps. It was obiviously affected by whatever was turning the foxes rabid and it came here to die.

Kate couldn’t help but feel sorry for it. It reminded her a little of herself. She too will one day die and she knew how she was going to die; it was all in a matter of time.

Suddenly, Loki nudged her with his arm and when Kate turned to look at him, Loki gave a gentle smile “Use your Fire abilities”.

Kate blinked “What?” What did he mean?

“Fire is a wonderful purifier”, Loki explained clearly “If used correctly, you can burn the toxins from this creature’s body and save it”.

R-really? “How?”
