A Glimpse of Fire a

She was there again, standing on the bank of a river made of Lava, the glowing hot liquid rock blazzing a trail through the hidden Lava fields to the ocean. It was like a stream of light, cutting effortlessly lighting a path through the murky darkness. It was warm, which was quite surprising as being this close to the risen magma should have been unbearable and life-threatening.

But Kate found it comforting, the Lava moving like liquid gold.

“Kate…..”

A voice called to her, both familiar and haunting.

“Kate…..”

It was almost like a crackling fire, sharp but fleeting, powerful, but a mere whisper

“Time to wake up, Kate….”

Suddenly, Kate found herself on her back, lying on something soft and comfortable.
And as she opened her eyes, she found herself staring up at a very familiar sight of the ceiling in her bedroom.

She blinked a few times. She was back in her room.

Then, her vision was filled with a familiar face of blue eyes and a rather child-like grin that was framed by unruly blue hair, cascading over his shoulders like a waterfall.

“Finally awake, sleeping beauty?”

“Wah!”
Kate yelped in surprise, her eyes growing wide. She would have reeled back in shock, but since she was already lying on her back, it wasn’t like she could go anywhere. So all she could do was simply stare up at him in complete bewilderment.

“Loki!”

That grin on Loki’s widened into a smile and he laughed with amusement from his actions. “That’s hardly a reasonable greeting”, he chided through his chuckles as he leaned back.

“Ah, sorry”, Kate immediately apologized as she sat up, quickly realizing that she was still dressed in her Fire Priestess garbs and was lying on top of her sheets. She also quickly noticed, from the subtle lighting now bathing her room that it was late in the afternoon, the sun about to set so that the night could now take reign.

She turned back to Loki, about to ask him how long she had slept, but when she placed her gaze upon the blue-haired man, he was looking at her with some sort of expectancy, as if waiting for her to say something.

What was she……?

Oh! He couldn’t be waiting for a greeting from her?

“Hello again, Loki”, Kate greeted politely, hoping that was what the other man wanted, feeling somewhat at silly saying it.

But that was apparently what he had been waiting for as he flashed her his careful smile. “That’s better!”

Kate felt the corner of her lips quirk into a half smile from Loki’s…..enthusiasm, before turning to look around her room again. “What happened?”

“You fainted after traning, remember?”
Loki provided for her.

Kate swiftly turned back to him, blilking a few times in silent confusion. Then, the memories of the flames, of the hauntingly beautiful voice, of the magnificence of her Fire Beast appearing caused her eyes to widen in remembrance. She remembered it all so clearly now. She had discovered her Spell Binding Circle and met Nootau Chatan, the majestic Fire Hawk!

All in one lesson.

“How….?” Kate whispered. How could Loki, a man she had only just met, help her to discover her fire abilities in one lesson?

The furrow in her brow deepened as Kate remembered bits and pieces of her dream, mostly the safely and security she felt. “I’ve just had this strange dream”.

“Huh?”
Loki muttered as he lifted his hand to the side in question, looking genuinely interested

“What kind of dream?”

Kate was slightly hesitant to tell her fingers absently playing with the sheets on her bed. “Lava and Fire, mostly”, she softly admitted. “It wasn’t a bad dream. It was just….. I don’t know . It’s stupid”.

“Hmm”,
Loki hummed, mostly to himself, in thought. He turned his eyes to the ceiling as he tapped his chin in a thinking pose before turning to look at Kate agin. “Well maybe it’s a sign from the Fire God. Maybe he’s letting you know that you should continue with your training”.

Kate blinked, stunned “You think so?”

“Of course!”
Loki said brightly, smiling what was becoming his trade mark carefree smile. He abruptly stood to his feet and held out his hand for Kate to take, looking quite eager about something “Come on”.

“More training?”
Kate questioned as she looked at Loki’s hand wearily “But I’m still tried”.

Loki, however, only laughed and reached forward to physically take Kate’s hand in his “No, no more training for you yet”, he said as he tugged her off the bed. “You’re still recovering. I just want to show you something”.

Not having the energy, or heart to say no to the carefree man, Kate simply allowed her Loki to lead her to wherever it was that he was heading. She, of course, led him through the temple again; bratantly ignoring the looks of surprise and confusion on the faces of the Fire Priests & Priestess they came across.

Kate silently mouth apologies to her fellow priests & priestess, informing them that Loki was her friend and not to worry. And she was granted looks of spectical acceptance in turn.
