After a while Eve spoke up.
“I am leaving this country soon, I am going someplace else, a better place.”

Diline jerked up in shock, she believed she didn’t hear her friend clearly so she asked again.

“Did you say something I didn’t hear you well.”

Eve bit her lower lip and player with the hem of her dress.

“I know how hard it is to separate now but I have go, I am tired of this country, I just want to leave for a while.”

Diline could not hide her unbelief, the day she dreaded was finally upon her. She stood unmoving and speechless. She wondered how she would cope without Eve there to support and advise her. Suddenly her future looked bleak and blurred. She could not imagine herself facing the hard life alone.

Eve shook Diline hard, she never expected the kind of reaction she got from Diline.

“Diline please say something, stop looking like that I beg you.”

When she finally answered she asked to be left alone and Eve obliged her. As the day of separation drew near, Diline became really quiet that it worried Eve, she ate little and slept little.
She grew thinner by the day and Eve feared for Diline’s life.

“Diline, I beg you please stop doing this I would do anything for you to regain your happiness. Will you go with me then? Let’s go together.”

Eve saw this as the only way to make Diline healthy again, she ran around to get the essentials for Diline’s travel. It was easier for her because Diline had a passport and was described as very ill and to be taken out of the country for advanced treatment. Diline refused to go blatantly at first.

“I don’t want you to worry about me, I will be okay. Please don’t let me get in your way.”

Eve refused and stood her ground until Diline accepted. After then Diline began to get better and this pleased Eve. They ran around and did many odd jobs in order to add up more money to what they had, they never for once stopped working. When the day for the travelling drew near, they sold everything else they were not taking with them.

One night, Eve woke Diline up, she struggled with sleep for a while before she sat up.

“What is it? Why are you still up at this hour.”

Eve sighed.

“I am sorry to have disturbed your sleep but it is crucial I do.”

She paused to see if her words have effect and continued.

“I want to prepare your mind against our travelling to Skornia. You know that we have no one but each other over there, so you have to brace up your mind that living there will not be easy. Luckily you might get a good job with your credentials and I have also decided to further my education part time wile doing whatever good my hands find doing. But one thing Diline, if you will give up on the way please don’t follow me.”

Diline smiled.

“Not this time around Eve, I promise to fight tooth and nail, we will succeed this time.”

Eve mouthed an ‘amen’. She was clearly surprised at Diline’s determination. Two days later they travelled.
