After her mother’s death Diline’s life was no longer the same, she became a shadow of herself people didn’t stand to help her, she became an hopeless orphan. People that she and her parents had helped turned her away mercilessly and life which was once easy became extremely difficult for her. Her boyfriend whom she trusted that he would always be there for her turned out to be the worst, he betrayed her without remorse.

Diline was shocked at what she witnessed on getting to his house, the one she had bought for him. He and her best friend were in a serious state of romance, she tried to wrap her head around what was happening but she could not.

“Ade,Lilian, what is going on here? Is this a joke or what?”

Ade stood up and poured himself a shot of whiskey before speaking up.

“No Diline, this is not a dream, this is for real. What do you expect? That I will sit down with you seeing what your life has become? You are pretty yes but you are selfish too. In this world where guys are scarce you are playing hard to get with your body. I was just acting like a fool in love because of what I can get from you not because I love you and now that you have nothing to offer you can go.”

Diline was dumbfounded, she felt like the ground would open up and swallow her at that moment. She looked at her supposed best friend who hung her head down in shame.

“Lilian you too can do this to me, you can stab me in the back with this b-----d? Well not to worry too much, he will do the same to you and God will judge both of you, you will get double of what you did to me.”
Ade chuckled.

“After I finish spending all the money you gave to me like a fool right? Fool!”

First came the tears then the anger. She slapped him twice and hissed. She made to leave with her luggage but he pulled her back and began to beat her mercilessly. He punched and slapped her again and again till blood was gushing out of cuts on her face. Her lips began to bleed profusely and it was only until Lilian intervened that he left her alone.

“Please leave her alone, you will kill her stop beating her.”

He dragged Diline with her hair and threw her and her luggage out of his house. Lilian began to tear up at the vile treatment given to her friend.

“Is it not enough now? You are a very wicked person, mad man.”

He turned and slapped her hard.

“You better shut your mouth or I will shut it for you.”

Diline left the place in utter shame and disgrace. She looked back to a year earlier, to the time when her parents were still alive and healthy and how bad things had turned around for her.
She braced herself up for the unknown future.
The following months were filled with agony for her, she could not get any job to do and no organization employed her. Feeding and accommodation became a problem. After several failed attempts, she finally gave up on white collar jobs and looked for other means of survival.

She got the job of a cleaner at a cleaning company which fortunately offered accommodation to its sine workers, it was there she met Eve.
