My mother recounted that they stayed a few days in the safe house before the real tragedy began. Her parents became even closer with nothing to do each day, they spent their days cuddling each other as if unconsciously they knew it would be their last intimate moments. Diline and her parents were watching the news that fateful evening when there was a knock on the door by one of her father’s bodyguards, her mother who opened the door was immediately seized and pushed to the ground. They found out too late that they had been tricked by the assassins.
The five heavily built men seized her father and brought him to their leader. Because there was no light on she couldn’t see their faces but she saw they all had the same tattoo used the described her father’s friends assassins except their leader. She soon learned that he was named Jay. One of the assassins came to where she was kneeling and whistled, he shouted to their leader.

“Jay, this girl has assets, she is loaded let’s get a taste from her at least once.”

He looked at her greedily again. Jay hissed and commanded that nobody in the house should be touched except Diline’s father. After asking him a series of questions which he answered then Jay brought out a silencer.

“Senator, it is not my fault but I have been sent to see you off to the land of your ancestors, would you like to say a word of goodbye to your wife and daughter?”

Diline and her mother shouted and pleaded in tears but to no avail. Her father pleaded that nothing should be done to his wife and daughter since they came after him. With a nod of his head, Jay shot him in the heart. Immediately they confirmed his death, they left the house. Diline and her mother fainted simultaneously and it was only at the hospital that she regained consciousness.

After the doctor confirmed that she was strong enough, he broke the news of her mother’s paralysis to her. Diline’s life looked as if it would end at that moment, she ran all around to make sure her mother got better but she never responded to treatment. Her father’s corpse and funeral were all taken care of by her father’s general manager Mr.Jilha. After her father was buried, she left work to fuy take care of her mother who had become so frail.

“Stop telling me rubbish Mr. Man, what do you mean by there is no more money? What happened?”

The accountant recounted how the general manager withdrew a the money in the account because according to him Diline asked for them.

“And the worst part is that, the last contract we executed, your father borrowed money from the bank and used his properties as collateral.
The money the general manager absconded with was supposed to pay back the loan from the bank.”

Diline sat down shocked on the floor, she understood what he was saying, there was nothing for them anymore. After dismissing the accountant she went up to her mother’s room to see if she heard and was relieved to see her sleeping.

After a while things became so difficult for them, she withdrew all the money in her bank account to take care of her mother but her mother’s health deteriorated everyday till it got to the point of death. One day her mother woke her up and spoke to her.

“Honey, it is enough, let’s stop now, I give up, please do so too.”

Diline wept uncontrollably.

“No mother when there is life, there is hope I can’t give up on you now.”
Her mother replied.
“It is over for me, this suffering is too much I feel my spirit is leaving my body, I am sorry for all that I made you go through please take care of yourself, I am happy to go meet my husband and that I will no longer be a burden. I love you.”

They both wept until her .mother breathed her last and gave up.
