Must Read: The Player

I could hear Kiki scream in the background but I could not see her, three guys entered the house with Lekan and immediately started kicking me. I used my hands to cover my face but that left the remaining parts of my body vulnerable. Was kiki laughing? Oh no, she was sobbing and mentioning something about blood. I could hear her call Lekan a beast.

I looked up and saw Kiki trying to stoop two of the guys from hitting me. Her gown was going up and down, exposing her nakedness to the guys that were making most of holding her back… then I passed out as I heard “You no know who we be for this town, ba?”
I dreamt of him again, for the second time that day. We weren’t in the market though, we were in a stadium, he was talking to me excitedly but all I could do was smile back.

I couldn’t talk, I was hurt.

When I woke up, I realized I wasn’t the only one on my bed. Kiki was beside me, she was asleep. I tried moving but the pain was breathtaking, my m0an!ng must have woken her up.

“Fifi, thank God you are awake, pele.”
I nodded.

“You see the pain Bauchi put you through, I am sure he is somewhere now, that idiot!”

At this point I should have been angry with him too but I wasn’t. Kiki started crying again.

“I thought Lekan was a gentle man o, that guy is a beast, he even allowed his friends to press my touch me carelessly. Ah, Bauchi will pay for this!”

The next time I woke up, it was morning and Kiki was still in my bed. I was grateful that I was able to move around, I still felt pain but it was better. A broken mirror lying on my table exposed a guy that didn’t look an inch like me. Both of my eyes were swollen and red, almost bloodshot, my cheekbone was swollen too. I chuckled at the site of my lips, they were like a concave and convex red banana lying on-top of each other.

I wondered how disgusting I would look when I went for the day’s Exam but I had no choice, university was a priority now.

I splashed two bowls of water on my face, it stung but I was okay. I didn’t bother taking my bath.

On the way to the Exam centre, I couldn’t help but notice people stare at me, children were the worst. They actually pointed.

The sun made my eyes born, tears began to roll down my face like I was crying but I wasn’t. The handkerchief I had was soaked with tears and blood, but nothing shocked me than what Abibia said when she saw me.

“You look like a work of art,” she said smiling at me.

“Are you serious right now?” I asked her, wanting to frown but my new features didn’t allow.

“Whoever dealt with you did a nice job.”
“Fork you!”
I said

“Nope, you won’t my dear,” she replied.

I found myself laughing with her though it hurt.

“See you after the Exams, soldier,” she said winking.

A normal person would have shown concern or at least asked what had happened to me.
She want normal.

During the exams, my head started banging.

I tried my best to concentrate but couldn’t, so I took short naps. After doing the best that I could, I left the hall. Abibia stood up immediately too and caught up with me as I stepped into the hallway.
“Where are you off to now?” she asked with her pen between her lips.

“A clinic I suppose, I need pain killers.”

She removed the pen, acting surprised.

“You know I am a certified nurse, right?”
“No, you aint,”
I replied.
She laughed at me.

“Yes, you are right, I am not but I have drugs and they are free,” she said.

“Really, you have them with you now?”
“No silly, in my house. Let’s go.”

The drive to her house was silent; she had a cd walk-man on her lap and a connected earpiece filling her ears with music she seemed to enjoy. That was until we got to one of the finest houses I had ever seen.

“Welcome to my father’s house, soldier!”
“Wow, its beautiful,”
I replied.

“Please don’t utter the word ‘beautiful’ while you look like that.”
“You are mad,”
I said.

“Who isn’t?” she replied.
