Must Read: Loss Of Dignity

First love are usually hard to get over, no matter how hard you
try you still find yourself thinking about the kiss, romance and
love you guys once shared together. Even when you’ve moved
on, yet you still get jealous when you see your ex- with another
guy or girl, it seemed as though they’ve left an uncleaned
footstep in your heart. The bitter truth is that, first love
relationship are never meant to last, perhaps, that’s the way it
was programmed to be.

***************************

Emeka stood still like someone who was struck by lightening, a
baby cup containing milk spilled from Amaka’s hand as she saw
the person she least expected to see, Chinedu stared at the both
of them frantically then he recognised the seller as Amaka. Since
Amaka gave birth to her baby boy, her body structure had
developed into that of a woman and her looks was not spared
either.

Emeka’s fidgety soon turned into hatred as he angrily walked
away leaving Chinedu in a pool of mess. Amaka could not bear
the pain and emotional trauma she had caused him so she gave
Chinedu her baby to hold and ran after Emeka.

She soon caught
up with him and held him by his arm, Emeka did not stopped
walking away so she attempted to knee on muddy ground in the
presence of everyone looking but Emeka quickly held her by the
waist and literally begged her not to knee for him.

Emeka felt his eyes get wet as they walked back to the shade, he
remembered two year before he used to be that loverboy until
Amaka got pregnant which turned him into a full time player.

When they were still in sss1, Emeka would occasionally tell
Amaka that they would get married and have twelve children but
Amaka always laughed it off thinking he was joking but he took it
seriously. That’s being the reason he wept so bad when he was
about leaving for Lagos because he was not able to profess his
love for her.

They both walked back to the shop while holding their hands like
man and wife then sat on the bench Chinedu was sitting, the
baby was now crying hysterically so Emeka stretched his arm to
carry to baby from Chinedu, immediately Emeka held the baby he
stopped crying. The baby was a chip of the old block as he
looked the same as the father. Emeka enquired the name of the
baby and Amaka told him his name was Jeffery, coincidently that
was Emeka’s english name. But it wasen’t so coincidental
because Amaka cajoled the father of the baby to christened him
that name unknowngly to him that it was the english name of her
first love.

Emeka also asked after the father of the baby and she explained
how everything went down. Uncle Nwabueze kicked her out of
his house as they usually quarrell over his infidelity. The maths
teacher was sleeping around and keeping late nights, he cared
less about his baby and he barely eats her food, sometimes he
would come home with his concubine and whenever she tries to
talk to him he always beat her up. He had threatened to send her
out of his house more than he’d looked to the face of his own
baby.
Amaka, ‘the prodigal daughter’ could no longer stay in his house
before he killed her and the baby so she went back to beg her
parents for forgiveness, her father was so angry to see her return
after he gave her a stern warning that he never wanted to see her
again, but when her mother pleaded on her behalf which cooled
his temper, he said she made her decision to get pregnant out of
wedlock and that he had forgiven her but he could never accept
her back into his house. He then rented a house where she and
her baby would be living and also opened the shop for her.
Since then Amaka had been living alone with her baby, although
different guys came asking for a relationship with her but she
turned down their request. She was not ready to be fooled again,
atleast not yet. She then begged Emeka for not being faithful
enough to wait for him even when she obviously knew he had a
big crush on her. Emeka also begged her for not being bold
enough to ask her for a relationship then.

They both forgave themselves but they can’t be together again,
things happens but life moves on. Amaka gave them the food
items and also added to it but refused to collect money from
them, Emeka pleaded with her to collect the money that she
needed it for herself and her baby but to no avail.

Her store was
really stock up with goods.

Emeka and Chinedu finally let but not after Amaka gave them a
warm hug like that was the last time she was going to see them.

***************************

They got back home that day and Chinedu prepared a palatable
meal for their eating pleasure, Emeka selected a season movie
from the collections he bought and they watched it until
midnight.

Emeka woke up the following day which happened to be his
clearance, he had a huge grin on his face which signified “better
days ahead.” but only if he never thought so.
