Must Read: Loss Of Dignity

You don’t know the value of what you have untill you lose it, same
way you don’t know the value of what you’ve been missing untill it
arrives. I remember back in secondary school, when the session
was still on, i would be eager for schools to go on vacations so
that i would regain tranquility and mingle with friends. But then
when the school eventually go on vacation i discovered that home
is not so fun afterall, the friends i wanted to see, i’ve met them and
tired of even seeing them. Notwithstanding the numerous errands
and house chores i had to render. Again, i had felt the urge for
schools to resume back. Emeka had only spent few days in
university of nigeria, nsukka and he felt he had gotten where he
wanted to be.
However, he wanted to study in UNILAG because of its fame and
status amongst universities across the nation but later
compromised after his dad suggested he applied for a school in
his home town. Emeka got to Nsukka and discovered that the
school is not as bad as he thought, that’s why it’s never
appropriate to judge a book by its cover. The post-ume had come
and gone, he had to go back home to Lagos. He was definately
going to miss Chinyere, Chinedu and a host of others. Although,
there was hope for him to return back to school but only his result
would determined so.

Emeka got back to five star lodge to meet a full house. Chinyere,
Chinedu, Lizzy and two other occupant of the lodge were eating
and watching a noolywood movie on Chinedu’s laptop. There was
light so the battery was standby as it was plugged to an extension
while being used. They were all happy to see Emeka, it felt like he
had been gone for ages. They kept bombarding him with questions
about the exam and his response were all positive.
“so when will you be leaving” chinyere asked.
“maybe tomorrow” emeka said unsure.
“no ooo!, my sweetheart is not going anywhere” lizzy jokingly
chipped in while they all bursted into laughter.
“we would all miss you ooo” a male occupant in the lodge added.

“i will miss you guys too” emeka said sadly.
“anyway, food is in the kitchen” chinedu said.
“thank goodness you cooked, i am really hungry” emeka said
touching his stomach.

Emeka went inside the kitchenetth to behold a delicious pot of
jollof rice but as usual there was no meat nor fish. Whenever
Chinedu was in school he automatically becomes a vegetarian
because there was no money for meat. School life is all about
struggle, it doesn’t matter whether one is a rich kid or not, you’ve
got to blend in with the movement.

Chinedu was also a great cook, he was not offered food and home
science for nothing. Emeka soon collected his food and made to
joined them in the room, he sat on the rug placing his back to the
bed and began watching the movie with them.

Lizzy who was
sitted on the bed changed position and slept straight to the
monitor while placing her neck on Emeka’s shoulder. Emeka
wasen’t bothered about that as he continued watching the movie
untill midnight when they all departed to their various rooms.

**********************

It was a beautiful morning in Nsukka, emeka woke up from bed to
see the bulblight glowing. Chinedu was always the first to wake up
before Emeka so he was in the kitchen frying eggs while Nigerian
music was blaring hysterically from his lappy. Emeka joined him in
the kitchen and began peeling the yam they were going to use to
eat the eggs. When he was done he went to the room and started
dancing to the beat of the music. Emeka was a very good dancer
but detest dancing in public. He later unplugde his phone from the
extension and dialled a number.

“hello, am i speaking with ella?” he enquired immediately the caller
answered the phone.

“yes, my name is emmanuela. may i know who you are” she
inquired.
“it is i, chidi. the guy you met on your way to unn. do you
remember?” emeka asked.

“oh! chidi, i remember. did you get my friend request on facebook”
ella asked.
“yes i’ve accepted it. that’s where i got your number.” emeka
lamented.

“ok, how was your exam and when will you be leaving?” ella
asked.
“my exam was okay, and i’ll be leaving later today” emeka
explained.

“i’ll also be leaving today, perhaps we could go together” ella
blurted.
“oh, that’s cool with me, i’ll send you a message on how we shall
meet” emeka said and ended the call.

Emeka began packing his things into his travelling bag. When it
was time to leave he went to room7 and informed them. Chinyere
and Lizzy were sober to see him leave, well they should be
because they were going to miss his bulala. Chinyere and Lizzy
gave Emeka a warm hug and escorted him to where he was going
to get a bike together with Chinedu. He flagged a bikeman who
would take him to the park, the bike zoomed off while they bade
him farewell.

“atleast, i still had a fresh fish” emeka said to himself.
