Must Read: Loss Of Dignity

They say the road to success is always under construction,
Emeka’s journey in life had not been smooth either, it has been a
rough ride. Everyday people wake up striving to succeed and the
least thing in Emeka’s mind was not making it in life.

His father was a successful police officer but Emeka was never a
chip off the old block. He had always wanted to go to a
university and have a degree in law. S.S.C.E had come and gone,
Emeka took the responsiblity of writing both WAEC and NECO,
like people say, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

N:B
-S.S.C.E means “Secondary School Certificate Examination”
-NECO means “National Examination Council”
-WAEC had been defined already.

Emeka had managed to avoid Jennifer throughout the session,
though their fellow classmates suspected that something was
wrong between the both of them but neither of them said
anything about what transpired.

It has been long since the last time Emeka spoke to Chinedu, he
could easily put a call through to him but then phones were
banned in the boarding school. The last time he heard from him,
Chinedu informed Emeka that he is a student of UNN studying
Food and home science after he failed UTME for the first year.

N:B
-UNN means “University of Nigeria Nsukka”
-UTME means “Unified tertiary matriculation Examination”
Emeka was not suprised to hear the course Chinedu was
studying in the University, he knew Chinedu was a food addict
and only needed a platform to explore his talent. Chinedu
actually wanted to study Agricultural science but when he could
not meet the school cut-off-mark he was switched to Food and
home science.

“Alas!, i’m finally going home.” Emeka said to himself.

The next day Mr. Chukwuemeka came to picked him up from
school with an SUV. His father had been promoted in his place of
work, he is now a CP.

N:B
-SUV means “Sport Utility Vehicle” (Most Nigerians refer to any
SUV as Jeep, JEEP is a brand of SUV)
-CP means “Commissioner of Police” (In charge of contingents in
a state)
His father earns more salaries now and had already started
erecting a 3-bedroom apartment in far away Enugu. He had
thought of moving back to his town with his family. He usually
sends money to his younger brother on occasional basics who
acts as the contractor of the house. He felt building a house in
his home-town first was more ideal than erecting it in another
man’s land. The house had almost been completed, it only
remained some finshing touches. Atleast, Emeka still had hope of
seeing Amaka, the love of his life.

Mr. Chukwuemeka drove into the school compound and was
directed to the boys hostel by the school secretary. On getting
there, Emeka stood outside the entrance of the hostel with his
luggage and school materials, he was gleeful to see his father.

His father bundled his bags and luggage into the boot of the SUV
and they zoomed off. Emeka sat relaxed on the frontseat with his
father. He tighten his seatbeat, heaved a sigh of relief and
mumbled inaudible to himself.
“Goodbye to Secondary School.”
But only if he had remained in school because bigger trouble
awaits him at home.
