We both kept quiet wondering who was knocking when we are busy knocking ourselves. Whoever was knocking have refused to go after I replied ‘yes’. the person must be was sure that more than one person is inside the toilet. we still kept quiet trying to calm down our breathing and stop our heartbeat from screaming. Miss Lisa was wise enough to have bolted the door. How would she and I have explain what both of us were doing inside thw same bathroom.

I listened kinly and I noticed that the person knocking have entered the next toilet and left ‘our’ own toilet. I heard a flush from the toilet and I thought it wise to use this opportunity to run away, so I motioned to Miss Lisa that I will leave first then she later.

I refused to voice out my intention for fear of being heard. All she did was just nod like a frightened lizard. So I unbolted the door and walked just few steps outside, hurrying out before anyone saw me emerging from the toilet when I head a voice.

“Nneji!” I shook with fear. I paused and was transfixed to the ground surely I could not turn nor answer. I just stood. Then the voice came again.

‘Nneji, what’s wrong?” No doubt I know that voice, it’s so faniliar, but whay is this voice doing here? I thought.

As I turned I saw Ada, yes that was unmistakeably her voice. She shot me a confused look
“can’t betray myself” I thought so I put on a weary smile, too fake I sure it was to convince even a kid that all is well. She smiled back and walked towards me. How many of you watch all these indian movies where they suddenly play slow motion when a ‘ghen, ghen’ thing is about to happen? Ehen that’s how I saw her when she walked towards me, so slowly, I felt she was coming to slap me and scream at me for being so stupid, standing there looking at her, but what she did surprised me. That was the greatst surprise I have ever qitnessed as a young man.
