Episode 2: The Ink Trap
Would Lola really try to ruin the home of her friend?
Lola started to visit the house every single day. She was like a shadow that followed the happy couple everywhere. She always pretended to be a very caring and loving guest. She would bring flowers, help clean the kitchen, and listen to all the stories Bisi had to tell about her marriage. Bisi was so happy to see her friend. She thought that having Lola around made their home feel even warmer. She cooked nice meals, and they would sit for hours and talk about the old times.
Bisi felt like she was the luckiest woman in the world. She had a loving husband in Tunde and a loyal best friend in Lola. What more could a girl ask for? Every time Tunde walked through the door after work, he would see them laughing. He was happy that Bisi had someone to keep her company while he was away. He treated Lola like a sister, always welcoming her and making sure she felt at home. He never saw the way Lola looked at him when he wasn't paying attention.
But one afternoon, everything changed.
The sun was beating down, making the afternoon feel very slow and quiet. Bisi and Lola were sitting on the porch, drinking cold, sweet juice. The air was filled with the sound of birds chirping in the trees. It was a peaceful moment, or at least that is what Bisi thought.
Lola leaned in close to Bisi. The smile she usually wore was gone. Instead, she put on a very sad face. She sighed deeply, looking at the ground as if she had the weight of the world on her shoulders.
"Bisi," she whispered. Her voice was low and shaky, like someone telling a big, dark secret. "I am worried about you. I did not want to say anything, but I cannot keep it in anymore. You are my best friend, and I would never want to see you hurt."
Bisi felt her heart beat a little faster. "What is it, Lola? Is everything okay?"
Lola looked up, her eyes wide and full of fake worry. "It is Tunde. I was walking past his office building yesterday, and I saw him. He was standing with a woman. They were very close, and they were laughing. He looked at her in a way that just did not feel right. I am worried that Tunde is looking at other women at the office. You need to be careful, Bisi."
Bisi felt a sharp pain in her chest, like a needle had poked her heart. She trusted Tunde with everything she had. He was her rock, her partner, her love. But hearing those words from Lola felt like cold water being thrown on her face. Lola was her best friend. They had known each other since they were little girls. Why would Lola lie? It made no sense for her to make up something so mean.
"Are you sure, Lola?" Bisi asked, her voice trembling. "Maybe it was just a coworker?"
Lola shook her head slowly, looking very sad. "I wish it were, Bisi. I really do. But I saw them together. I thought I should tell you because you deserve to know. A good friend tells the truth, even when it hurts."
Lola patted the back of Bisi gently. She acted like she was trying to comfort her, but inside, she was smiling. She was smiling because she knew exactly what those words would do. She had planted a bad seed in Bisi’s mind. And she knew that seeds like that, when watered with doubt and fear, would grow very, very quickly.
After Lola left, the house felt different. The air that had been so sweet now felt heavy. Bisi walked around, looking at the pictures of her and Tunde on the wall. She remembered the day they were taken. They were both smiling. Tunde looked so happy to be with her. Could Lola be telling the truth? Was there a side of Tunde she didn't know?
She spent the rest of the day in a daze. She tried to clean, but she kept dropping things. She tried to watch TV, but she couldn't hear what the people were saying. All she could think about was the woman at the office. She imagined them laughing, she imagined them having secret jokes, and she imagined them being happy without her.
When Tunde finally came back home that night, the house was dark. He walked in with a big smile, ready to tell Bisi about his day. "Bisi, honey, I am home!" he called out.
He found her sitting in the living room. She did not stand up to greet him like she usually did. She did not run to give him a hug or a kiss. She just sat there, looking at the floor.
Tunde frowned and walked over to her. "Bisi? Is everything okay? You seem a bit quiet."
Bisi looked up at him. Her eyes were hard and cold. She did not see the man she loved. She saw the man that Lola had described. She saw the man who was looking at other women.
"I am fine, Tunde," she said, her voice clipped and sharp.
Tunde was very confused. He didn't know what he had done wrong. He walked closer, but Bisi stood up and walked away. "I am going to bed. Don't worry about dinner. I am not hungry."
The happy home was now feeling cold. The laughter that used to fill the rooms had vanished, replaced by a silence that felt like a wall between them. Tunde stood in the living room, feeling completely lost. He wondered if he had forgotten something. Was it an anniversary? Was he late for a special dinner? He searched his brain, but he couldn't find a reason for her sudden anger.
Lola, meanwhile, was sitting in her own house, feeling very pleased with herself. She knew that the plan was working. She could see it in her mind—the confusion, the hurt, and the distance. It was all so easy. If it was this simple to break their trust, what else could she do?
She thought about how much more she could achieve. Tomorrow was another day. What would Lola do next to break them apart even more? She had so many ideas. She could make anonymous phone calls. She could leave fake notes in Tunde’s pockets. She could even make it look like Bisi was the one who was hiding something.
She walked over to her calendar and marked a big 'X' on the date. She was counting down the days until Tunde would be hers, and Bisi would be left with nothing.
She picked up her phone and looked at a photo of Tunde. She touched the screen, a dark look on her face. "You don't know what is coming for you, Tunde," she whispered.
She had another wicked trick for poor Tunde very soon too. She had noticed that Tunde was a man of routines. He always checked his emails at a certain time. He always drank coffee from the same mug. He always left his car keys on the hook by the door. If she could just get her hands on his phone or his laptop, she could really cause some trouble.
She imagined the look on Bisi’s face when she found "proof" that Tunde was hiding something. She could make up messages. She could fake conversations. There were so many ways to use the technology she had to ruin a marriage.
She lay back on her bed and stared at the ceiling. She was not sleeping. Her mind was racing with all the ways she could win. She knew that Bisi was sensitive, and she knew that Tunde was easily confused. They were the perfect targets.
She thought about the next day. She would go back to their house. She would act like she was so worried about Bisi. She would ask how Tunde reacted to her coldness. She would tell Bisi that it was a good sign that he was confused, because it meant he was hiding something. She would turn every little thing into a reason for Bisi to be angry.
The plan was solid. The execution was simple. And the result would be exactly what she wanted.
She felt a surge of excitement. This was better than any game. This was power. And she had it all.
She closed her eyes and smiled. Tomorrow was going to be a very interesting day. She was ready to play her part perfectly. She was the friend, the guest, the listener, and the secret architect of their destruction.
She drifted off to sleep, feeling no guilt at all. Why should she feel guilty? She was just getting what she deserved. She had been the one to always be there for Bisi, so why shouldn't she have the good life? It was her turn. It was her time to shine.
The night passed slowly. The moon shone through her window, casting long, strange shadows on her walls. She slept like a baby, while Bisi and Tunde spent the night apart, both wondering what had gone wrong.
When morning came, Lola was already dressed and ready. She had her bag packed, filled with her 'supplies'. She was going to be the most helpful friend ever. She was going to be the one to 'save' Bisi from her unhappy marriage.
She walked to her car, her head held high. She knew that the path she was on was dark, but she didn't care. She was on a mission, and nothing was going to stop her.
She arrived at Bisi’s house just as Tunde was leaving for work. He looked tired. He hadn't slept well. Lola smiled at him, but he barely noticed. He just gave a small nod and drove away.
Lola watched him go, a smirk on her face. Perfect. The tension was already there. All she had to do was add a little bit more fire to the fuel.
She knocked on the door. Bisi opened it. She looked like she had been crying all night. Her eyes were red and swollen.
"Bisi! Oh my goodness, what happened?" Lola asked, running over to hug her.
Bisi pulled away, wiping her eyes. "Nothing, Lola. I am just... I am just not feeling well."
"Is it about Tunde?" Lola asked, leading her to the couch. "Did you talk to him?" "We didn't say anything," Bisi admitted, her voice breaking. "He tried to ask, but I just... I couldn't."
Lola sighed, acting as if she were so disappointed. "Oh, Bisi. You cannot keep doing this. If you don't face the truth, it will only eat you alive. You need to know for sure. You deserve to know what he is doing behind your back."
Bisi looked at her, her eyes pleading for an answer. "What should I do, Lola?"
Lola smiled, a slow, calculated smile. "I think you need to go to his office. Surprise him. See for yourself. If he is doing nothing wrong, then he will be happy to see you. But if he is... well, you will know the truth."
Bisi hesitated. "Do you think so?"
"I know so," Lola said, grabbing her hand. "You are my best friend. I want you to be happy. Don't you want to be happy?"
Bisi nodded slowly. "Yes. I do."
"Then do it," Lola whispered. "Go to the office today. Just show up and see what you find."
Lola felt a thrill of excitement. This was it. This was the moment she had been waiting for. By the end of the day, Bisi would walk into Tunde’s office and see exactly what Lola wanted her to see. And then, there would be no going back.
The trap was set. The ink was ready. And now, she just had to wait for the catch.
She looked at the clock. It was still early. She had plenty of time to make sure everything was in place. She had already sent a message to someone at Tunde’s office—a woman who didn't like Tunde very much. She had told her that Bisi was coming and that it would be very funny if Tunde was caught talking to someone else.
Everything was going exactly according to her plan. She looked at Bisi, who was now busy getting ready to go out. Bisi didn't suspect a thing. She thought Lola was her best friend, her sister, her savior.
Lola leaned against the wall, watching her. She felt like a queen. She was the one moving the pieces, she was the one changing the game, and she was the one who was going to win.
She knew that the rest of the day was going to be a whirlwind of drama. And she couldn't wait to see it all happen. She was going to be right there, standing by Bisi’s side, making sure that everything went down exactly the way she wanted it to.
The story was unfolding, and she was the main character. She was the one writing the chapters. And she was going to make sure that this one ended with a bang.
She looked out the window and saw a car pulling up. It was Bisi’s car. Everything was ready.
"Are you ready, Bisi?" Lola asked, her voice filled with fake excitement.
Bisi stood up, her face full of determination. "Yes. I am ready.
"Good," Lola said, grabbing her bag. "Let’s go. I will drive you."
They walked out to the car. The morning sun was bright, but to Bisi, it felt like the storm of her life was about to begin. To Lola, it was the start of her greatest victory.
They drove through the streets, the city alive with movement. People were going to work, children were going to school, and everyone was living their lives, unaware of the drama that was unfolding right before their eyes.
Lola looked at the road, her hands gripping the wheel. She was focused. She was ready. She was the ink trap, and she was about to make her biggest move yet.
As they drove, she thought about all the things she had done to get here. She had lied, she had manipulated, and she had betrayed the only person who had ever truly loved her. But did she care? No. She felt nothing but power. She was taking her destiny into her own hands.
They reached the office building. It was a tall, impressive building. Bisi looked up at it, her heart pounding.
"Are you sure, Lola?" she asked again.
Lola squeezed her hand. "Trust me, Bisi. You are doing the right thing. You need to know the truth."
Bisi took a deep breath and opened the car door. She stepped out onto the sidewalk, her legs feeling like jelly.
Lola stepped out after her, a look of fake support on her face. "I am right here with you, Bisi. No matter what happens, I am here."
They walked toward the entrance. The sliding doors opened, and they stepped into the lobby. The air was cool and smelled of coffee.
They walked to the elevator and pressed the button. The numbers went up, and with every floor, Bisi’s heart beat faster.
They reached Tunde’s floor. The hallway was busy with people walking back and forth.
Lola pointed to a door at the end of the hall. "That is his office."
Bisi started to walk toward it. Lola stayed a few steps behind, her eyes wide, waiting for the scene to unfold.
Bisi reached the door. It was slightly open. She could hear voices inside. One was Tunde’s. The other was a woman’s.
Bisi stopped. She looked back at Lola, her face pale.
Lola just nodded, a small, dark smile on her face. "Go on, Bisi. See for yourself."
Bisi reached for the handle. She paused, her hand trembling.
Lola watched, holding her breath. This was it. This was the moment.
Bisi pushed the door open, just an inch.
She looked inside.
What she saw made her blood run cold.
Lola’s smile widened. It was working. It was all working perfectly.
She stood there, watching the scene unfold, feeling more alive than she had ever felt in her life.
The trap was closing in. And there was nothing Bisi could do to stop it.
She leaned forward, listening to every word. She was the spectator, the judge, and the jury.
And she was about to see the end of everything she had worked so hard to destroy.
Everything was going to be exactly as she wanted it to be.
The story of the ink trap was far from over.
