The First Lady Episode Seven
The sun was getting hot and heating up the earth. Everywhere was bright and the skyline was crystal clear. The capital city was clean and beautiful. Many people were in their offices hustling, but Leke's wife was hustling differently. She wanted to personally see the First Lady and to beg her after her husband turned down the job given to him. Her driver easily navigated the smooth roads leading to the First Lady's secret house. Soon, he entered the compound and packed the car. Leke's wife jumped down like a soldier on a mission.
She walked swiftly into the secret building. The First Lady was still sitting in the living room weeping. When she saw Leke's wife, she quickly stopped crying and wiped her tears with a white handkerchief. Due to prolonged crying, her face looked stressed and the tears pouring from her eyes had spoiled her beautiful makeup. The Face Lady's face was now looking like the face of a cat that just finished licking oil. Her face was red.
"Good afternoon ma. My name is Kehinde, and I'm Leke's wife. I know you don't know me, but I know you. My husband has told me a lot about you. Please, I want to talk to you about something ma." Leke's wife said. She was speaking to the first lady in a respectful way.
"You are welcome to my house. But I wasn't expecting you. I didn't even know you knew my secret house. Please, who showed you this place? Did your husband send you to me?" The First Lady asked. She had already seen that Leke's wife was trying to impress her through humble and condescending behavior.
"It was my husband's driver that brought me. I just asked him to bring me to your secret house and he did. My husband did not send me, I came on my own. Please ma, don't be angry that I visited you without first booking an appointment. I decided to come immediately due to the urgency of the situation at hand." Leke's wife said. She was still standing respectfully before the First Lady like a house maid.
"Alright! No problems. Go ahead please, what do you want to talk to me about?" The First Lady asked. She was surprised that Leke's wife knelt down and started begging her. The First Lady was even embarrassed.
"Please ma, I'm just here to beg you on behalf of my husband. I know he is a very stubborn person. You are trying to help him and he is misbehaving. He is behaving like a child even when it is very clear that your intentions are pure. I have never seen a man as stubborn as my husband. What many people are looking for, he got it on a platter and now, he wants to throw away an opportunity that could make us rich. I'm so disappointed in him. Please, forgive him. I plead with you not to sack him or accept his resignation letter. Please, just treat him nicely like a child who doesn't know what he is doing." Leke's wife said. She had started crying.
"We have suffered so much in poverty. For many years now, we have not been eating well. Even when my husband had a job, his salary was never enough to take good care of us; we were always struggling to make ends meet. Life has been very difficult for me and my son because my husband is not making enough money to feed the family. There was a day we did not have anything at all to eat. All of us went to bed hungry. Even my son did not eat anything that night. There was not even small garri in our house. We could not afford to drink garri in our house. We could not afford to drink garri. It was that bad. Poverty has dealt with me seriously. This is why I don't want my husband to miss this opportunity. They say opportunity comes but once." Leke's wife said. Her tears increased. Even her nose was running like someone suffering from catarrh.
"Even a mad man will not reject the job you gave to my husband. How can a man in his right senses reject something that will lift him out of poverty? How can he reject the sweet sugar you freely threw into his mouth? I have been advising him at home but he is not listening to me. Please, I don't want him to lose this job because our lives have changed since you called him on phone. We now have enough food to eat. We now have cars, and we have a big house where we are not paying rent. These are the things my husband wants to throw away. I will not allow him to do that. Please ma, forgive him, and accept him back." Leke's wife said tearfully.
All along, the First Lady listened to Leke's wife without saying anything. When Kehinde was done talking, the First Lady replied her.
"Is this why you came to see me?" The First Lady asked.
"Yes ma. Just to beg you to forgive my husband and take him back to work for you." Leke's wife responded.
"Did your husband tell you the kind of job I gave to him?" The First Lady asked.
"Yes ma. He explained everything to me. I have already told him he can go ahead with the job. I told him to make you happy with bedroom action. I told him to sleep in your bedroom if you want him to. I told him to impress you with his skills. I have given him the permission. I don't mind sharing my husband with you ma. It is even a privilege to share my husband with the First Lady." Leke's wife said.
"Are you listening to yourself at all? First, let me ask you a question. What job are you doing to support your husband? You were complaining about poverty and how poor you were. During those days, what job did you do to support your husband?" The First Lady asked.
"Nothing. I was idle at home. I have always been a house wife." Leke's wife responded.
"You did nothing to help your husband. And you are here painting him in bad light? What kind of wife are you? You cannot even protect your husband from me. You have just exposed him, making it look as if he is not working hard. You are so shameless. It is true that I want your husband, but I don't want you to be the one to bring him to my bedroom. You want to sell your husband to me because of money? I want you to stand up right now and leave this house immediately." The First Lady said with anger.
When Leke's wife stepped out of the house, she was arrested by the police.
