The First Lady Episode Six
Leke is a very intelligent man. He recognizes manipulation when he sees one. The First Lady is a sweet talker blessed with a sweet mouth. When she talks, it is always as if there is sugar in her mouth. She would be able to convince anyone to do something for her. But Leke knows her very well. All her character is in his palms and there was no way he was going to be deceived to do what he did not like.
The situation he found himself was a difficult one which put him under a lot of pressure to do what he did not want to do. There was pressure coming from his wife and there was pressure coming from the First Lady. There was also pressure coming from poverty because he had to consider what his life would become if he ended up leaving the job given to him by the First Lady. He sat silently in the First Lady's room and considered everything one after the other, but he ended up going back to his original decision. He insisted he was resigning from the job and going back to his small house. His mind was made up.
"Look, it is not everything that you can use money to buy. It is true that you have money, but money cannot buy everything. There are things you cannot pay for in financial terms. One of them is love. Love occurs naturally. The time I was in love with you have passed. During that time, did you pay me money to love you? Did you have to bribe me to love you? I did it freely because love is free, it cannot be bought with bags of money and it is not sold in the open market. But the that time of loving you has passed. I have offered that love to another person who is my wife and I'm not ready to go against my marital vows. Please, accept the resignation letter, I want to go back home and start packing my things because I know you will take everything from me." Leke said as he stood up to leave.
"I'm not accepting your resignation. And you are not going back to that small thing you call a house. You are not even going to be allowed to pack your things from the house I gave you and your family. All of you will remain there so far as I'm the first lady of this state. If you don't want to be helped, I will help you by force. I have never seen a man who rejected sugar which was thrown into his mouth for free. Why are you rejecting the honey I'm pouring into your mouth? You are not going anywhere. I'm not accepting your resignation letter. You are still my personal assistant weather you like it or not. If you don't want us to do it in peace, we will do it in 'pieces.' I don't care what you want or your personal values, all I want is for you to be able to give the good things of life to your family and you can't afford that if you remain poor. But I will force you and help you." The First Lady said. She was crying as she was quarrelling. Leke was just watching her in silence.
"You cannot reject my offer. No one has ever rejected me. How dare you say no to me? How dare you say no to the first lady of this state? Do you know how powerful I'm? Do you know how powerful my husband is? Do you know I can make you suffer? Do you know I can lock you up in jail? Do you know I can send the police to get you arrested? Do you know I can make it difficult for you to get any job in the entire country? I have the phone numbers of powerful people. I can make your life difficult to live. I can make things difficult for you if you don't want things easy. I'm trying to help your wretched life and you are trying to embarrass me. Look, go back home with your resignation letter, because I'm not going to accept it from you. At the end of the day, you will still do what I want you to do." The First Lady fired back at Leke.
"Suit yourself then. I'm going home. When I get home, I will pack my things and leave. Weather you accept my resignation or not, what I know is that I no longer work for you. Good bye." Leke said as he walked out of the room in anger.
"Are you walking out on me? Come back here Leke. I will deal with you. I will show you pepper. "The First Lady threatened but Leke paid her no attention.
When Leke got home, he told his wife that he has resigned from the job. He informed her to start packing her things for them to go to their small house. His wife was shocked.
"What are you saying? Are you out of your mind? Did you branch to the bar to drink kai kai when you were coming home? Is your head paining you? If you try such a thing, I will show you where to sit." His wife said.
"That's your business. I have already resigned. You can do what you want. I'm going home with my son." Leke said.
"I hope you have not done anything wrong to the First Lady? I hope you did not write any resignation letter?" His wife asked.
"I have resigned!" Leke responded. His wife ran out of the house when she heard what her husband said. The thing almost made her to run mad. She could not hold herself. She was not even wearing good clothes, but she ran out and jumped into the car. She asked the driver to move.
"Were are we going ma?" The driver asked.
"Take me to the house where the First Lady is." Leke's wife said as the car zoomed off.
