{ TARA’S FUNERAL }

#Past

~

When he pulled her into the dark room, she had expected nothing else but torture and pain.

However, today was different.

He didn’t hurt her. Neither has he made any advances to her. Or even said a word to her.

He just sat down on a metal chair, drawing in smoke from a pipe into his mouth and then puffing the smoke out in the air.

Little Abby knelt down in front of him, not daring to look him in the eyes.

She was fuc-k ing scared of him.

Everyone wants to go to heaven but if the devil walks up to the little girl right now and proposes a deal for her to leave this goddamn world and come with him to hell, she would follow him.

Because the monster seated in front of her was worse than the devil himself.

God created man in his own image but it seems like this monster was in the image of the devil.

She heard him clear his throat as he discarded the pipe of cigarette and rose up to his feet.

Has the time of torture and pain finally come? Was he going to hurt her now? She wondered, biting her lower li-p so ha-rd that she could taste blood.

“Look at me, honey.” He said to her.

She vigorously shook her head, tears rolling down her face which she quickly wiped off before he could notice it.

He rou-ghly gripped her chin and raised her head up to look at him.

His eyes were dark and full of hatred. Maybe he already noticed the tears before she wiped them away. She felt her cheeks w-et and that was when she realized that she was still crying. Now she understands why he was giving her that hateful look.

Good job to herself for increasing her punishment of torture and pain.

Fate was really not on her side.

She wished her mother would just burst throu-ghthe door to save her from this bastard. But her mother coming here will only do two things; One, the monster would beat her mother up until she loses consciousness. And two, he will hurt her even more than he already has in mind.

So you see why her mother shouldn’t come in here to save her? Because her coming here won’t do anything other than worsen the situation.

“What did I tell you about crying, honey?” He snarled, tightening his grip on her chin.

Her breath hitched up in her throat. “I…I’m sorry.”

He chuckled darkly, rubbing his thumb finger over her w-et cheek. “If I didn’t have other plans in mind, I would have beaten the hell out of you!” He said it like it was the normal thing for him to do. Come to think of it, it was actually the normal thing for him to do.

She cries and he would beat her until there were no tears left in her eyes for her to shed.

She swallowed nothing, looking into his dark eyes that held no sign of emotions or pity. He was a monster after all.

“Listen, honey.” He smirked. “I will like to show you around the world. Aren’t you curious?”

She wanted to shake her head no and tell him to his face that he should go to hell! But she knew better. It definitely wouldn’t end well for her if she says anything contrary to what he wanted to hear.

“Ye…yes.” She breathed, nodding her head slowly.

“Good girl. Now stand up.” He helped her up to her feet.“Today is going to be a fun day for you and me.” He winked. He looked super excited for the ‘fun activity’ and that implies that whatever he wants to show her, she wasn’t going to like it. “I’m going to show you why we are so different from the rest of the world.”

#Present

Abby peeled her eyes open, swallowing the huge lump in her throat.

She took in her environment, wondering where she was at that point.

The last thing she remembered was sitting in a restaurant with her boss when she had a phone call from Emma.

Wait a minute, Abby quickly sat upright on the bed as her brain started processing every damn thing.

However, one word struck her so ha-rd that she almost dropped out of bed.

≤!≥ Tara is dead ≤!≥

Abigail was about to jump out of bed when someone suddenly caught hold of her wrist from the side, bringing her movement to a halt.

She turned around to find Emma holding her down with a sad look on her face.

“Where is Tara?” Abby asked in a raspy voice.

“Calm down, Abby.”

“What do you mean by that? I am asking about the whereabouts of Tara. Why are you telling me to calm down?” She asked.

“You have to get a hold of yourself, babe. Tara is dead. I’m sorry.” Emma told her.

Abby blinked her eyes several times, completely lost for words to say.

She thought it was a nightmare and that when she wakes up to reality, she would find Tara staring down at her with a smile on her face.

She thought it was her illusion and Emma haven’t called to deliver such bad and despicable news.

Thelma was the carrier of bad news but seems like the duty has been twisted and given to her best friend.

Her thoughts were moving in a circle like a rollercoaster and her breathing picked up to an abnormal rhythm.

It made no sense why Tara should die.

The thirteen years old girl was very healthy. What happened? How did she die? Who killed her?

Abby had a lot of questions to ask. Questions that Emma wouldn’t be able to answer but she (Abby) couldn’t even let a single word out.

She was dumbstruck and speechless.

“Abby…” Emma called out softly, squeezing her friend’s wrist lightly.

“Where am I?” She asked after finding back her voice.

“You are in the hospital. Jersey brou-ght you here. He said you lost consciousness after receiving my phone call.” She explained. “I’m so sorry all these had to happen.”

“Where is Tara?”

“She has been taken away.”

Abby’s eyes wide-ned as she looked at Emma in the eyes. “She has been taken away? What do you mean by that?”

“Abby, you’ve been unconscious for two days.”

“What?”

“Tara’s funeral is today.”

All this information kept slapping Abby in the face, very hard. First, she heard about Tara’s death. Secondly, she figured out that she has been unconscious for fuc-k ing two days! And now, she is hearing that Tara’s body has been moved out of the hospital and her funeral was today.

When did all of this happen? She has only been unconscious for just two days and a lot seemed to have changed.

However, why exactly was she unconscious for that long? She only fainted and that shouldn’t be a big deal. Right? It’s not like she was sick or something. So what happened?

She had a lot to ask Emma but one question bothered her more as she stared into her best friend’s brown eyes that reminded her of delicious chocolate.

“Why didn’t you wake me up? Why did you let me sleep for two fuc-k ing days!?” Abigail asked, her voice cracking.

“Jersey asked everyone not to wake you up. He said you needed enough rest and that was why he…sedated you. I’m sorry. But I agreed to it.”

“Are you for real?” Abby rou-ghly pulled her wrist away from Emma’s grasp. “Who gave you or Jersey the right to dictate for me?”

“Abby…”

“Don’t call my name!” Abigail cut her off. “Tara’s funeral is today and I’m lying down here like it is nothing important.”

“You should take care of yourself first, Abby. You were looking so pale and sick. I was worried about you.”

“If you were really worried about me then you shouldn’t have let him sedate me. You shouldn’t have allowed me to sleep for that long when you know how much I care about Tara.”

“I’m sorry. I just…”

“I need to leave now.” Abigail jumped out of bed, interrupting her friend once again. “I have to pay her my last respect. I…”

She didn’t finish her statement as she quickly ran out of the ward, Emma followed her from behind.

“I heard she is awake,” Sandra muttered, folding her arms over her chest.

“fuc-k .”

“You know she will definitely come for you, right?”

Marshall nodded his head as he pinched the bridge of his nose, inhaling and exhaling de-eply.

“This is so fuc-k ed up. How did it all turn out this way?”

“It’s my fault.” She whispered. “I should have been more careful.”

“Hey,” He wrapped his arms around her waist, turning her around so she would face him. “what did I tell you about feeling guilty, huh?”

“I can’t help it, Marshall. This will affect you more and it will be my damn fault.” She said in a quiet voice.

“I don’t care. You did what you did for my sake. I am ready to face any obstacle as long as you are unaffected, I don’t mind.”

“What should I do now?” She queried.

“Nothing. What else are you going to do, hmm? Besides, that night was our day off…we won’t be the suspect of anything.” He informed her, kis-sing her softly on her right cheek.

“Well, I wouldn’t be so worried if no one saw me leaving the hospital that night.”

Marshall pinched his brows together, looking a little bit confused. “What do you mean?”

“Thelma saw me.”

His body went stiffed immediately she let the bomb drop and he slowly pulled his arms away from her waist, taking a quiet step back.

“What did you just say?”

“Listen, I’m sorry I left that vital part out. I just didn’t know how I was going to tell you or how you would take in the news.” She said.

“fuc-k !” He let out a loud and strained curse, tugging at his hair as he stared out of the open window, his mind going blank.

He never saw this coming. If Thelma saw Sandra that night then she would tell the cops and…and…

“We can’t let her tell the cops anything.” He said, glancing back at Sandra. “We need to figure something out. Nobody must know that you were here the night the patient died.”

“What are we going to do then? Thelma knows and she might tell on me. On us.” Sandra shook her head, weakly. “This won’t end well for us, would it?”

Marshall thought for a second before a small smirk appeared on his face.

“You have a plan, don’t you?” She asked, noticing his change of demeanor. He wouldn’t be smirking now if he had no plan in mind. “What is it, Marshall? How can we get out of this mess?”

He wrapped his arms around her wa-istonce again and smashed his li-ps on hers. She wasted no time to kis-s him back.

They kis-sed for what felt like ten minutes. When they pulled apart, their li-ps were swollen and stung a little bit.

“You helped me out the first time, remember? You showed me how far you can go to make me happy. How about I do the same for you, darling?”

“What…are you saying?”

“Sit back and let me take control of the situation. I will handle Thelma myself. But,” He gave her a pointed look. “don’t give yourself away. Be the strong, confident, and fearless woman everyone knows. Any slight changes in our behavior could draw attention to us. We are already a suspect in front of Dr. Abby. We can’t give them a reason to pin us down.”

Sandra nodded her head in understanding as she encircled her arms around his neck. “You are right. I’m sorry for making that terrible mistake and worsening the situation like this.”

He pecked her on the li-ps and smiled. “It’s okay, honey.”
