Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 28

“fuc-k !” Marshall let out a strained curse, knocking down the books on his desk in utmost anger.

Sandra graciously sat down on the couch positioned at the center of the large office, quietly watching him with a smile on her face.

He kept shouting and destroying anything his hand came in contact with.

Sandra got fed up with his bratty attitude and stood up to her feet. “This is becoming annoying to watch, Marshall.”

“Didn’t you see what happened out there? How could he just jump into the conversation and give her his fuc-k ing permission? The patient is mine and I have every right to say who gets in or goes out.” He blabbed.

“You are right.” She agreed, nodding her head.

“I saw the smile of victory on her face as soon as the director said those three bloody words. He made me look like a freaking fool!”

“I know.” Sandra agreed once again.

“I was this close to making her feel like shit. She would have knelt down in front of me to beg if I hadn’t let her in. She was ready to go that far just to see that little patient.”

“That’s true.”

“But now…my plans are ruined. How can I be able to break her if not keeping her away from her favorite patient? Come to think of it, don’t you think the director and Dr. Abby are fuc-k ing behind closed doors?”

“Like us?”

“Yes, like_” He paused, staring at Sandra. “Why do you look so calm and unbothered about this whole thing? Aren’t you pissed off?”

“I am extremely pissed off, Marshall. More pissed off than you can ever imagined. But look at you,” She gestured at the messed up office. “we can’t have two mad people under the same roof, honey.” She sighed. “And trashing your office like this won’t change anything.”

“Argh.” He grabbed a tissue box and threw it towards Sandra but she caught it before it could hit her face.

“fuc-k ing hell, Marshall.” She snarled.

“Oh, shit. I’m sorry.” He ruffled his hair.

“I know you are clouded by your emotions. Things are sli-pping out of your control. It’s alright to be pissed off about that but knocking down books and throwing tissue box at my face won’t solve anything.” She kept the box on the black desk and crossed her arms over her chest. “You asked why I am not bothered, right?” Marshall silently stared at her, waiting for her to continue talking. “That’s because I have a plan.”

He raised a brow, seeming very interested now. “You have a plan?”

She nodded.

“Really? And you are just telling me? Why the hell is that?”

“You weren’t yourself minutes ago, how do you expect me to say anything?”

He sat down immediately, “Sit down.” He clutched his hands together and placed them on the table, pressing his chest against the ha-rd surface. “What plan do you have in mind, Sandra?” He asked when she settled down on the chair opposite him.

“I told you that I can go to any extent to protect the ones I love and care about. It breaks my heart to see you like this, honey. I wasn’t pissed off that Abby got what she wanted…I was more pissed that you were hurt in the process.”

“Is that so?” He smirked.

“Of course.” She reached out for his clutched hands on the desk. “I love you so much, babe. You chose me even though I already have a child for another man. You love me unconditionally. Now I’m going to show you just how much I can go to make you happy.”

“What do you plan?” He questioned.

“Abby is in the patient’s ward, right? Turns out the little girl is battling with liver cancer and the dear doctor doesn’t know that yet.” She tilted her head to the side. “We are doctors, we know the dos and donts of patient struggling with liver cancer. We can_”

“Wait a minute,” He cut her off, giving her a pointed look. “don’t tell me your plan is to hurt my patient, Sandra.”

“We are just going to hurt her a little.” She said.

“Are you kidding me? We are doctors, we treat people and not hurt them.” He pointed out.

“Oh, please.” She scoffed. “You talk as if you haven’t hurt her before. We both know the cupcakes weren’t what reacted to her system that day but the substance you injected in her body.” She snickered. “It’s funny how nobody asked you what you were doing in the ward when you noticed something was wrong with the patient.”

“I…” His voice trailed off when she raised a hand up, indicating him to stop talking.

“No need for the excuses or explanations, darling. I know why you did it. You wanted to get Abby into trouble which worked out well for you. Mind you, I am not judging you, okay? I just want to make it clear that we can toy with a patient’s life a little bit without actually killing them. Is that easy.” She batted her eyelashes, squeezing his hand lightly.

Marshall heaved out a de-ep breath, pinching the bridge of his nose. “What is the plan?”

“Now you are talking.”

••••

Tara let out a shaky and weak breath as she opened her eyes.

She took in her surroundings until her gaze settled on Abby who was seated beside her.

“Dr…Abby?” She called out in a raspy voice, trying to sit upright.

“Hey, kitten.” Abby quickly put her arms around Tara’s shoulder, stopping her from getting up. “you are still weak and need rest.”

“My head…hurts. What happened to me?” She asked.

“Nothing serious.” Abby hoped. The image of the swollen liver was still troubling her mind but she hope it was nothing serious and the little girl was fine. “Are you hungry, kitten?”

“Yes…” She nodded.

“Okay. I brou-ght you food.” Abigail pressed a button under the bed, the upper part of the bed raised alongside the upper part of Tara’s body – she was now in a sitting position.

“My favorite?”

“Mm-hmm. What else would I have gotten for you, huh?” She picked the plastic bag from the table beside the hospital bed and started bringing out the food she bought for Tara. “How do you feel now?”

“I am fine especially with you here.” She answered.

“You flatter me a lot, kitten. But I’m glad to be here as well. I was so scared and worried about you last night.”

“I’m sorry.”

“No, don’t apologize. It is not your fault. And I’m happy to be here with you.”

They ate the food Abby bought quietly. It was still lunch break when they finished eating.

“Are you feeling sleepy?”

Tara shook her head. “No. I’m fine. You know, it feels so nice to have someone worry about me like the way you do.”

“Well, you remind me so much of myself when I was young.”

“Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Wow. That’s amazing. I’ve always wanted to be like_”

“Don’t.” Abby cut her off.

“What?”

“Don’t be like me, kitten. You will regret it.” She said.

Tara furrowed her brows, looking very confused. “You are an amazing person, Dr. Abby. You are nice to people and treat everyone well. Okay, maybe you don’t want me to be like you when you were a child but I want to be like you when I grow up. Is that fine?”

Abby sat down on the bed and reached out to hold the thirteen years old girl’s hand. “Why?”

“Because you are nice.” She answered straight away without a second thought.

“You are nice too, baby. In everything, be yourself. Don’t wait in a corner, hoping for a perfect role model to lead your way. Choose your path to life and don’t wait for anyone to show you the way to go.” She sighed. “I might seem flawless in the outer surface, everyone might idolize me and want to be like me because I portray the beautiful, smart and kind doctor character. But believe me, behind this face,” She waved her fingers over her face. “lies a monster.”

“Huh?”

Emma might have told her that not knowing how to cry doesn’t make her a monster but she knew that was Emma trying to calm her down and make her feel like it is okay to not know how to cry.

However, Abby is not dumb. She knows better. She is just like that psychopath in her nightmare. He created a monster like himself.

She hates him so much. But aside from him, there is another person she hate just as much… Herself.

Monsters don’t cry…doesn’t that describe her?

“What are you…talking about, Dr. Abby?” Tara asked in a soft and innocent voice.

Abigail smiled. “Forget about what I said, will you? I wasn’t thinking straight and must have splattered out nonsense.”

“Uh…are you sure you are okay?”

“Yeah. But please don’t be like me. Don’t even think about it, you hear me?”

“Um, okay?”

“Good girl.” She sighed. “Do you want to sleep?”

Tara nodded her head.

Abigail pressed the button again and the upper part of the bed lowered, bringing Tara to a sleeping position.

“I might not be coming regularly to check up on you but I swear I will always try my best to see you.”

“You promise?”

“Yes, honey.”

“Okay. I will always expect you.”

Abby turned to leave when Tara caught hold of her wrist. It was already lunch break over so it was time for Abigail to leave the ward at their director’s command.

“What is it, kitten?” She asked.

“Can you wait until I fall back to sleep? Please?”

“Well…uhm..” She stared at the closed for a few seconds before shrugging her shoulders. “okay.”

Tara grinned widely. “Thank you, Dr. Abby.

Abby sat down on the chair and watched the girl closely.

It was completely silent for a moment. Just a slight moment.

“Dr. Abby?”

“Yes, kitten.”

“My sickness is getting worse, isn’t it?”

“What?” Abigail least expected to hear that question. “Why do you ask?”

“I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I can feel how weak I’m getting.” She slowly opened her eyes, meeting Abby’s gaze. “Everybody have always known me to be a weak child who has an ill-fate. Tell me, how much worse will I get to prove them right?”

“Tara…”

“I don’t want to die,” She said, her voice breaking as tears rolled down her face. “I don’t want to die from this sickness, Dr. Abby. I don’t want to prove everyone right that I am a weakling who died from the sickness she has been battling since she was born. Maybe I can die because I sli-pped and hit my head on the ground or I fell off a tall building but definitely not because of this sickness that refused to let me breath fresh air.” She cried harder, holding Abby’s gaze. “I don’t want to die…”
