★I DON’T WANT TO DIE★ }

She pulled out her phone from her pan-ts pocket and texted her best friend.

EMMA: HI, HUN. HOW IS TARA? IS EVERYTHING GOING WELL? DID MARSHALL LET YOU SEE HER?

She tapped send and dropped the phone on the desk, heaving out a de-ep breath of frustration.

Emma has been a little bit distracted since morning. Things were just going south for her. First, she got scolded by her boss for ‘embarra-ssing’ his daughter at Sherlock’s house. She still doesn’t know how she embarra-ssed the spoilt brat or what she did wrong to get such scolding from him.

Shouldn’t reverse be the case? Ginny was the one who was chatting with friends, taking pictures of the place instead of paying attention to the case. But what was Emma even expecting? Of course, the man will choose to be blind as far as it has something to do with his precious spoilt daughter.

However, the situation at work wasn’t what’s putting her on edge or making her feel so frustrated and worried.

Abby. Her best friend was her prime concern right now. Was she okay? What about the patient, Tara? Is she fine? Did Marshall even let her into the ward? How are things going over there at the hospital? She was plainly concerned about her friend.

She picked up her phone to check if there was already a response from Abigail but there was no new message from her.

Emma was going to type another message when she suddenly saw a bottle of milk and sandwich in front of her sight.

She pinched her brows together, turning to glance at the person who just did the kind gesture. Although she has one person in mind who can definitely pull something like this for her.

Emma looked to her side and found Robert there. She smiled and shook her head. Her guess was right. It can only be him.

She dropped the phone on the desk once again and focused her attention to him.

“What is this?” She nodded at the milk and sandwich, raising a questioning brow at him.

He shrugged. “Food?”

“Well, I know it is food but why are you giving it to me?”

“You didn’t come out for lunch, Emma.” He noted. “Are you okay?”

“What kind of a question is that?” She frowned, grabbing the bottle of milk but Robert collected it from her and uncapped the bottle before giving it back once again.

“Thank you.” She took a sip. “Wow. Refreshing.”

“You’ve been moody since morning. You barely said a word to anybody. And you’ve been either texting someone or glancing at your phone with a sad look on your face. Talk to me, Emma. Is everything okay? Does this have anything to do with the scolding you got from our boss?”

She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “I don’t care about what he said, Rob. I don’t even remember most of the things he let out. But I still can’t believe he will be stupid enough to support his spoilt daughter’s rude behavior at work.”

“You are pissed off about it but that’s not why you have been moody?” He asked.

She shook her head as she reached out for the sandwich and gave the bottle of milk to Robert. He collected and covered the bottle then dropped it on the desk.

“It is… Abby.” She muttered.

“Abby? Your doctor friend?”

“You always ask me that. You know that, right?” She rolled her eyes, taking a bite of sandwich. “But yeah, Abby, my doctor friend.”

He leaned against the desk and folded his arms over his chest. “What about her? Is she okay? Did something happen?”

Emma slowly nodded her head. “She has some issues at work. I’m worried about her, you know?”

“What issues?” He queried.

“Well, it’s a very long story and I don’t know where or how to start it. But in short version, her colleagues hate her.”

Robert raised a questioning brow.

“Her colleagues hate her?”

“Not all of them. But some.” She corrected before he start getting wrong ideas into his head. “Abby is a lovely and friendly person. She has a very nice personality and always put other people first before herself. Her character is likeable but you know,” She shrugged. “we can’t please everybody.”

Robert nodded his head in agreement. “Yeah, that we can’t.”

She su-cked in a de-ep breath and motioned for him to hand over the bottle of milk. Robert nodded his head as he grabbed the bottle, uncapped it and then gave it to her.

“Such a gentleman. Thank you.” She smiled and took a gulp.

He smirked. “So what is happening to her? Are the colleagues giving her a ha-rd time at work?”

“Something like that. They are refusing her on seeing a patient she care so much about. And you know, Abby can’t cry.”

“What?”

“Shocking, right?”

“This might sound dumb but I need to ask… She can’t cry like she don’t like crying, right?”

“She don’t know how to cry. Don’t laugh but I had even tried teaching her.” Emma said.

“What is there to laugh about, Emma? This is…crazy. I have never met anyone who don’t know how to cry. Maybe I have seen some of them in the movies or novels but never in the real world. How is that even possible?”

Emma shrugged. “Nothing is impossible, Rob. However, I never made her feel like it was a curse or a bad thing.”

Robert did not say anything.

“It is not her fault, though. She really tried her best to let go of a single tear. Honestly, the day she does it, she will sto-re the tears in a special bottle.” They both chuckled. “And I will make sure to capture that perfect moment. I want to see my best friend cry. She has been holding in her emotions for way too long. She deserve to cry like every other human being in this world. Don’t you think?”

Robert quickly nodded his head. “Of course. fuc-k . I can’t even imagine how she would feel in feeling different.”

“It su-ck. And it hurts me to see her struggling to cry when it is very easy for other people like you and I.” Emma sighed. “Sometimes, I don’t cry.”

“Because you don’t want her to feel awful about herself.” It wasn’t a question but Emma still chose to answer him by nodding her head, staring blankly at the black desk as if reminiscing about the past. “I’m sorry…”

She shook her head, lifting her gaze to him. “No, don’t do that. Nobody died.”

“Now I see why you are always worried about her. But can I ask you a question?”

“If you are going to ask the reason why she can’t cry…please don’t.” She told him.

Robert nodded his head, pressing his li-ps in a flat line.

“Thank you for the sandwich and milk. I really appreciate it.” She smiled.

“Nah. It’s nothing.” He brushed it off, smiling back at her. “I should go and get_” He attempted to leave her side when she said, bringing his step to a halt.

“I’m sorry.”

Robert turned to look at her. “What are you apologizing for?”

Emma bites her bottom li-p. “I was rude to you last night and I’m sorry.”

“I should also apologize too.” He said.

“Apologize for what?”

“I was overprotective of you at the Sherlock’s house. Who you give your number to shouldn’t be any of my damn business. I’m sorry.”

Emma grinned. “You were just looking out for me as a friend and partner.”

He ruffled her hair, earning a loud whine of disapproval from her.

“Hey, it took me effort to get this hair done. Don’t mess it all up for me.” She swatted his hand away from her hair and started arranging it. “Jerk.”

Robert chuckled and went to sit down behind his desk. Just that moment, Ginny entered the spacious office.

“Handsome, I brou-ght this for you,” She squealed, dropping takeout cup of coffee in front of Robert, grinning widely.

“Uh…you shouldn’t have but thanks?”

She waved in the air as if shooing off a fly. “You’re welcome, handsome.”

Emma scoffed, taking greedy gulp of milk, glaring over at them as they began chatting and laughing – Well, Ginny was doing the most talking and laughing while Robert listened to her, plastering an unsure smile on his face.
