{
THE IDEA }

Abigail did not know what to say at that very moment. It was logical for the teenage girl to be afraid of dying. Anyone in her shoes will likewise be scared.

Life was cruel and partial. Some kids are out there enjoying their lives to the fullest without a care in the world while some like Tara are locked up in here, battling with their lives, and having it in mind that one day…just one day, they are going to wake up and figure out that they are dead. And while some of them are hoping for a miracle.

Tara was fast asleep now. Her breathing was calm and steady. No one would expect a girl as beautiful, jovial, and innocent as Tara to be in a state like this.

Well, life was unpredictable. And doesn’t give a shit about certain people. Including herself.

They say; ‘Bad things happen to good people while good things happen to bad people.’

That saying was right.

She was four years old when her life started messing up. She was only an innocent young girl who doesn’t even know that the world was an unsafe place and bad people were everywhere.

Her mother told her stories of evil dragons and good ones. She told her stories about mermaids, princesses, pirates, fairies, and so on. But she never told her the evil that lurks in the heart of men. She didn’t even tell her about the pathetic psychopath and monster that was living under the same roof with them, eating the same food as them, breathing the same air with them.

She made her believe that human beings are like semi-gods and they are all nice people. Maybe that was the beginning of her mother’s mistakes -not warning her beforehand about evil human beings.

Abby stood up from the bed, pressed a soft kis-s on Tara’s forehead, and then left the ward.

She walked the distance down to her office, her mind was pretty occupied with the shit going on.

Tara doesn’t deserve this. She deserves more. She deserves to be happy without having in mind that her sickness was getting worse and will end up killing her.

Everyone is afraid of dying…she was also afraid of dying whenever the monster will take her to that room just to torture her.

He would wreck her world and leave her whimpering, hoping for a miracle. A miracle that never came.

≤¡≥ I don’t want to die from this sickness, Dr. Abby. Maybe I want to die because I sli-pped and hit my head on the ground or because I fell off a tall building but definitely not because of this sickness. I don’t want to prove the world right that I am a weakling who died from the sickness she has been struggling with since the day she was born≤¡≥

Tara’s words were like a ringtone in her ear. It won’t stop replaying, pushing her to answer the damn call.

Abigail su-cked in a de-ep breath as she sat down behind her desk and picked up her phone to see that she has five new messages from Emma.

“Shit, Emma. She must be worried sick.” She murmured, typing a reply.

ABBY: EMMA, I’M FINE. HOW ARE YOU?

ABBY: LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO SEE TARA. I OWE MY DIRECTOR FOR THAT. I WILL GIVE YOU THE FULL GIST AT HOME.

ABBY: TARA IS…OKAY. I DON’T KNOW WHETHER THAT’S A GOOD THING OR NOT.

A few minutes later, there was a reply.

EMMA: LET’S TALK WHEN WE GET HOME, OKAY?

EMMA: I’M GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO SEE HER.

ABBY: OKAY.

There was a knock on the door, Abby pushed her phone aside and ushered the person in.

The door opened and Marshall walked in, his hands were buried inside his pan-ts pocket. He had a smug look on his face.

Abigail smirked as she rose to her feet, pushing her thoughts and worries aside.

“Dr. Marshall, I planned on going to your office to thank you for letting me see Tara. I really appreciate your kind effort.”

Marshall scoffed. “You think you’ve won, don’t you?”

“Excuse me?”

“You are fuc-k ing the director. You think I don’t know?”

“Hey, I will tolerate anything from you but not that. Don’t you dare say that to my face again if you don’t want to get into trouble with the director.” She warned.

He chuckled darkly, stepping closer to her desk. “Mr. Jersey is a man who never gets involved with the activities of doctors. Hell, he hardly leaves his office. So why was your case different?”

“I can say the same about you as well.”

He frowned a little. “What do you mean?”

“The boss always listens to you. Does that mean you are fuc-k ing him?”

“DR. ABBY!’ Marshall growled, flaring up.

“What?” She chuckled, rounding her desk to stand beside him. “you aren’t g-ay ? Or you just don’t find our boss attractive and se-xy?”

Marshall balled his fist tight, shooting daggers at her. “I will make life hell for you, Dr. Abby. You will regret ever working in this hospital. I promise you that.”

She gave out a sly smile. “Okay.”

His face dropped. “What?”

“I said okay. I will wait patiently and see what you’ve got in mind. Do your best, Dr. Marshall. I don’t want to be disappointed.”

Nothing in this world will be scary for Abby. The shit she has gone throu-ghas a child has taught her how to face men like the psychopath and Marshall. Nobody scares her because she has seen the notorious monster of them all.

Marshall gro-aned in agitation and stormed out of her office, slamming the door shut behind him.

Abigail heaved out a breath and went back to sit down, running her fingers throu-ghher hair.

“Don’t tell me what to do, you are not my mother!”

“I don’t even pray to have a crazy daughter like you!”

“What did you just say?”

“You heard me. And mind you, I am your senior, the leader of this team and you better listen to me or get punished by me.”

Ginny started laughing. “It seems like my father’s warning didn’t get into your big head.”

“What?”

Emma and Ginny have been arguing for over thirty minutes now. And that’s because Ginny was cracking her damn phone while her seniors were dealing with some case of burglary.

The case was an easy one. They solved it within two hours and now the criminal has been caught and put behind bars.

But Emma hated the fact that Ginny didn’t contribute or paid attention to the case at all. If she doesn’t want to be a detective or doesn’t give a damn about the job, why then was she here? What was her usefulness in being on the team?

Robert leaned against the desk, watching the two girls insult themselves but ready to kick in when they try to lunge at each other.

He doesn’t like getting involved when two ladies are fighting. He likes staying neutral between the both of them.

Ginny snapped her head in his direction. “Tell me, handsome, did I do anything wrong? What was my offense, huh?”

Emma faced him as well. “Tell her how things are run in this team. Because her childishness and stupidity are making it difficult for her to learn.”

“I am not childish or stupid,” Ginny said.

“Yes, you are. Because only a fool will behave like this. Like seriously, what is the color of your problem?”

“Pink. Wait, you just insulted me now, didn’t you?”

“Tsk. You were stupid enough to answer that question. At least you are admitting to having a problem. That’s the first step to recovering. Congratulations.”

“Detective Emma,” Robert began but got rudely interrupted as Ginny lunged at Emma however Robert was quick enough to jump between the two girls and stop the attack.

He held Ginny’s hands above her head.

“Let go of me!” She yelled, struggling to break away from his hold but he was fuc-k ing too strong for her.

“Calm the fuc-k down, Ginny.”

“No, I won’t. Didn’t you hear her? She said I have a pink problem!”

“Technically, she asked the color of your problem and you said pink.”

“I thought she was asking about my favorite color! Why are you even supporting her?”

“I am not.”

Emma gasped. “That means you are supporting her.”

“What? No.”

“You are not on my side?” Ginny asked.

“I am_”

“You are on her side?” Emma asked.

“No, I…” He gro-aned, loudly, getting fed up with their argument as he released Ginny’s hands. “What the fuc-k is wrong with the both of you? I am not on anybody’s side here. You both should better gather up your shit and have sense!”

Some of their colleagues were watching them from outside their office, everyone enjoying the scene between Emma and her junior. Some were already laughing their a-ss out.

“This is all her fault. If only she would let me breathe and stop frustrating my life!” Ginny stated.

“All I ask is that you concentrate on work and stop chatting with your jobless friends.” Emma retorted.

“My friends are not jobless and who I chat with is my damn business and not yours.”

“You know what,” Robert paused. “I think this is the time where I say ‘KILL YOURSELVES’ and whoever survives will be locked up in jail by me.” He left the office, pushing everyone that blocked his way aside.

Emma and Ginny swallowed nothing, both looking at each other and then looking away, huffing.

“Show is over, go to your office!” Ginny yelled and stormed out of the office as well.

Some of them were still looking at Emma, waiting to see if there will be another drama.

“Shit!” She banged her fist on the desk and turned to glare at them.

They all scurried away immediately without hearing a word from her.

They all know how crazy Emma can get sometimes. And now, was one of those times.

“How did my life turn out this way?” She mumbled to herself as she sunk into her chair, exhaling de-eply.
