Pregnancy in Ward 10, Episode Nine

"Why did you do it?" Nikki asked Roland as soon as he got home from work that evening. She has not being herself since morning after she returned from the hospital where she learned the truth of who really got her pregnant. She was almost going crazy with so many thoughts coming into her head. She had however condoled herself with the fact that at least, she had made some progress. She now knows who got her pregnant and the fact that her twins could have a father made her happy a little. But she was still sad trying to figure out why a cleaner would take advantage of her in the hospital.

"There must be a good reason why you took advantage of me.

I was sick and helpless. You did it knowing that I could not say no or be able to resist you. You got me pregnant without my permission. Why did you do that? Don't you think that is a criminal act?" Nikki questioned Roland who was standing by the door where she had confronted him as soon as he entered the room. He was even yet to take off the clothes he wore from work.

"I'm talking to you and you are keeping quiet?

You have to answer me. Why did you perform a

bedroom action on me without my knowledge?

You are just a cleaner at the hospital and you

are not my husband or boyfriend. You are not

even a nurse or a doctor, which means you had

no permission to touch a patient in whatsoever

manner. But you did not only touch me, you

ended up getting me pregnant. That is a

criminal offence. Answer me Roland, what gave

you the impetus to do what you did? When a

bird is dancing by the roadside, someone in the

bush is drumming for it. So you have to answer

me or I will do something really bad right now."

Nikki said. The room was getting much more

tensed and hot as she kept question Roland

who had managed to enter the room and had

started removing his work clothes and changing

into something more comfortable. He wanted to

enter the bathroom and take a shower but Nikki

blocked his way.

"You are not doing anything else in this house until you answer my question. Why did you get me pregnant? If you don't answer me, I will call the police to get you arrested. You know what you did is a terrible crime. You will not be able to come out of the dungeon where they will throw you. I will make sure they lock you up and throw the keys into the ocean. So, you better start talking now so that we can settle this amicably." Nikki said, standing hands akimbo in front of the bathroom door. Roland was just looking at her silently.

"I did what I did for your sake. I did it to protect you. I was just a helpless cleaner witnessing a really bad situation and there was nothing I could do to save your life. I had to save you from death with what I have." Roland said. Nikki was surprise by his answer.

"How do you save a woman's life with pregnancy? I mean, by getting me pregnant, you have ended up ruining my life. Look at me; I was chased away by my husband because of the pregnancy. You messed up my marriage and I think that is a major disaster. So, how did you save my life by getting me pregnant?" Nikki questioned Roland further.

"You said I should tell you why I got you pregnant and I have just told you. I said I did it to save you from imminent death. If I did not get you pregnant, by now, you would have died. I'm so certain that without this pregnancy, you would not have survived another week after you were discharged. You have me to thank for saving your life." Roland said, but Nikki still didn't get the point he was making.

"What type of danger are you talking about? I was not in danger. Though, I was in the hospital and I was unconscious, which did not fit into what you are saying. How did you save my life by getting me pregnant? What was it that was threatening my life that you have to use pregnancy to chase away? I don't understand what you are saying. Like I said, if you don't give me a reasonable answer, I'm going to call the police and you will be arrested." Nikki said.

"It is not only the police that you should call. I want you to also call the army, air force, navy and all the security apparatus in this country. If you like, call the president and all the governors. Let me tell you, nothing will happen to me. And like I told you earlier, you have me to thank for your life. The less I want to hear from you is 'thank you for saving my life." Roland said again, dismissing all the threats issued by Nikki with the wave of his hand.

"By the time I finish dealing with you, you will never try this kind of thing again in your life and in your next life. The only reason that will spare you is if you give me a satisfactory answer as to why you took advantage of me. By tomorrow morning, I will start by reporting you to the hospital. You will be sacked immediately. You wait and see." Nikki said.

"I don't care who you tell. All I know is that I did what I did for your own good." Roland said.

"Stop saying that! You did it for my own sake but my husband chased me away?" Nikki asked.

"Talking of your husband, why don't you go and ask him why you landed in the hospital in the first place? You were told you had a car accident right? When you woke up from coma, you were told it was a car accident that put you in that condition right? Why don't you go home and ask your husband to tell you the truth?" Roland said, laughing mildly.

"What do you mean?" Nikki asked with surprise written on her face.

"You heard what I said. Go to your husband and ask him what brought you to the hospital and made you stay there for six months. Then when you are done, you can come and hear the rest of the story from me. Now, leave the road let me go and take my bathe." Roland said as he go and take my bathe." Roland said as he gently shoved Nikki aside and entered the bathroom.

Nikki became more confused. Nevertheless, she picked up her phone and called the doctor at the hospital.

"I have found the person who got me pregnant. "She told Dr Mark..

"What? Who is that?" Dr Mark asked.

"It's your hospital cleaner, Roland. He confessed it to me himself." Nikki said as she dropped the phone.
