The Unbearable Burden, Episode Eight

"It was not entirely my fault. In fact it was not my fault at all. Whatever happened that day cannot be blamed on me. I was just a victim of circumstance and jealousy. She wanted to destroy my life and my relationship with you. She wanted to ruin the relationship I have built for months. That was why I put up a strong resistance to protect my plans to marry you." Chima said to the two pregnant ladies. His voice was firm and strong and he was not talking as if he was begging Lucia to let the sleeping dogs lie. His tone was that of rebuke and total disapproval. Purity was a little bit confused as to what her husband was saying.

"Who are referring to?" Purity asked her husband.

"I'm referring to your friend Lucia. I'm categorically saying she has always been jealous of you and she deliberately wanted to ruin our relationship before marriage. I mounted a resistance. I admit that I aborted the baby, but she harvested what she planted." Chima said.

"What exactly are you saying? Did you or did you not have a bedroom action with her? Did you not get her pregnant?" Purity asked with her arms folded underneath her chest region. Her countenance remained that of anger and total disappointment.

"What mean is that she forced me during the bedroom action." Chima said while pointing an accusing finger at Lucia.

"You are telling lies against me. Thanks to God

that I'm here to defend myself. Purity my dear,

did not force him. He enjoyed it fully that day.

How can you say a woman forced a man? The

story does not add up. Do you believe I can hold

this man down and have a bedroom action with

him? Where do I have that kind of power as a

woman? He willingly relaxed and enjoyed it to

the fullest and now, he is accusing me of

forcing him to do bedroom action. Chima is a

serial liar and I'm so happy I'm here to speak for

myself. If not, he would have successfully

dragged my name in the mud." Lucia said

angrily. Her voice was emphatic but she was

not able to make Chima to shut up.

"You knew that I would say no to you and that was why you hatched a plan to make weak so that you can carry out the bedroom action. I did not participate in it. You did it alone without my consent." Chima insisted.

"Haba honey, how can you say you did not participate in a bedroom action? Come on, you are not even a good liar. Clearly, you knew what you were doing and you were enjoying it because you still remember what happened. If you were unconscious, how did you remember that she was the one who did the bedroom action alone?" Purity asked.

"But it was you who told me that a man touched you in my absence without your consent and that you did not even know what happened. However, you knew you were touched when you woke up. That means you did not participate in the bedroom action because it was not out of consent. The man did it alone. I believed you because it once happened to me. That was why I did not immediately condemn you when you confessed to me. It was the same thing I suffered in the hands of Lucia. I don't know what she put in my drink that made me nearly unconscious that day. Before that day, she has been asking me to do it with her but I refused. I insisted that it would be a betrayal if she had a bedroom action with her best friend's husband-to-be. When it became clear to her that I wouldn't do it, she invited me to her house, claiming that you were sick and in her house. That was how she offered me a drink. Unknown to me, the drink was mixed with a strong substance. I became very weak and unable to resist her until the bedroom action ended. Please Purity my love, you have to believe me. It was all her plans to destroy out relationship and now she is hell- bent on destroying out marriage." Chima explained.

The room was becoming tensed. Lucia was becoming uncomfortable because Chima was having an upper hand with his explanation. Purity was beginning to believe what he was saying because they had a similar experience in the hands of Lucia. The picture was becoming clearer in Purity's head.

"It was not my fault as I keep repeating. She got

pregnant a month later and she asked me to

dump you and marry her instead. I insisted there

was no way I was going to do that. I told her it

would amount to a gross injustice if she

snatched me from you. She wanted to use the

pregnancy to pin me down to marry her instead

of you. She was forcing me to marry her and

that was why I acted to put an end to it. I'm

surprised that never knew your friend Lucia is a dangerous viper. Lucia had always wanted to have me." Chima said.

"What evidence do you have to proof all these allegations against me? Face your actions Chima. You got me pregnant while engaged to my friend and here you are making stupid excuses for the evil you did." Lucia said while turning away from both Purity and Chima. She was beginning to feel guilty for her actions but refused to confess it.

"I have evidence to prove what I'm saying. I can prove that you did the bedroom action alone despite my refusal." Chima said as he reached for his phone. He tapped the phone and played an audio recording of what transpired that day. In the audio recording, Lucia was heard welcoming Chima to her house happily. It captured when Chima asked about Purity who Lucia had claimed was sick. It also captured the voice of Lucia asking Chima to take a drink which she had poured for him in a cup. Also, Chima was heard telling Lucia to stay away from him but his voice was weak. In the audio, Lucia also said Chima belonged to her and not Purity, insisting that Purity does not deserve a good man like him.

"Do you now believe me?" Chima asked Purity. After the audio finished playing and Purity realized the whole truth, she landed Lucia a hot slap on the face and they started fighting like cat and dog. Chima was trying to separate them but they overpowered him. The fight got very intense as Purity pushed Lucia and she fell on the glass table in the middle of the living room. The table got broken and a piece of glass pierced Lucia's belly and she started bleeding profusely. As they were rushing her to the hospital, she fainted in the car because to the intense bleeding.
