The Unbearable Burden, Episode Seven

"So you really think I was going to allow you marry her in peace after what you did to me? You think I would fold my hands and allow you and Purity to enjoy your marriage after the evil you committed against me? You thought I would not come for my pound of flesh? So, if you were the one who suffered the things I suffered, would you have allowed the person who is the source of your suffering to live in peace and enjoyment? I need answers to these questions Chima." Lucia said with a loud and angry tone. She was stand hands akimbo and Chima was standing before her. Purity was also present with her ears sharpened like those of a rabbit so as to hear what Lucia was about to say.

"You have suddenly gone dumb right? Surely, within your heart, you would have known that it was not over between us. I know you knew that I was always going to come back to hunt you down and seek for revenge against you. But I don't know if you are aware of what I'm capapble of doing. If you had known me very well, you would not have treated me the way you did. But now, I'm here as your latest nemesis because there is no peace for the wicked. For every pain you caused me, you will receive more than hundredfold of it." Lucia continued talking. She was talking alone as Chima and Purity watched her with amazement. The most surprised person was Purity who was yet to understand what was going on and what the whole trouble was all about.

"Why are you talking to my husband like that? How dare you disrespect my husband in my presence? How dare you enter my house the way you did with so much disrespect? Can someone tell me what is going on here before I call the police to throw you out?" Purity said. She was really angry but confused at the same time. Her mind raced to her husband because she knew that Lucia was not just talking. She is not mad that she would just enter a man's house and start making trouble. She then turned to her husband and asked some important questions.

"Honey, what is going on? Why is Lucia talking to you in this manner and you are so quiet as if she is holding some secrets you don't want people to know about? What did you do to her that she is talking about? What happened between you and Lucia? Please tell me, I promise won't get angry." Purity said to Chima who was still as calm as stagnant water.

"Don't worry Purity! Let me say the who thing since your dear husband is not yet ready to talk. Chima here got me pregnant before he married you." Lucia said with a mild, sarcastic laughter on her face. She paused to make sure what she said sank very well into everyone's mind.

It was then that Purity realized that the issue at hand was a serious issue. She looked at her husband with shock on her face and then returned her gaze at Lucia.

"Yes my dear Purity. That was what happened. Yes, your husband was dating you and he had a bedroom action with me and it led to pregnancy. That was about one month before you people were wedded. He did not want to jeopardise the relationship between the two of you, so he asked me to keep the pregnancy a secret. He got me pregnant and still wanted to go ahead and marry you. I respected his wishes but he insisted I must do away with the pregnancy. I refused. I wanted to keep the baby but he insisted the pregnancy must go." Lucia continued the shocking story. Purity was stupefied and too shocked to talk. She just opened her eyes wide and watched Lucia and her husband like television.

"Yes, that was what he did. I had to stay away from him because I wanted to keep the baby. It was my heart desire to have the baby, yet Chima here was hell-bent on doing away with the pregnancy. One day, he called me on phone and took me to a restaurant. He behaved as if he wanted to make peace and allow me keep the baby. I trusted him and drank the wine he gave me at the restaurant. That was how the pregnancy got terminated by Chima without my wish. I almost bled to death and the doctors confirmed that an abortion medicine was found in my system. I stayed in the hospital for one month and Chima never visited me. When you had your wedding, I was in the hospital even though I lied to you that I travelled abroad. That was what Chima did to me." Lucia said.

"Wait, don't tell all these happened without my knowledge. And don't tell me you are the one behind everything that happened to me at the club." Purity said when she regained her composure a lit bit. Chima was still as cold as ice water.

"Yes my dear Purity. After I recovered, I decided to come for revenge. That was why I took you to a club and did what I did to you. I brought the man that touched you that night and had a secret bedroom action with you. My aim was to lure you out of your husband's house so that will get the chance to accomplish my mission." Lucia said.

"And what was the mission you wanted to accomplish?" Purity asked.

"I wanted to get pregnant for Chima. I wanted to ruin his marriage the way he nearly ruined my life. And guess what? I'm now pregnant with his baby. He is going to marry the both of us. It's the punishment for his crimes against me." Lucia said. As she talked, her painful words hit Purity like jagged edges of a broken bottle.

"Is this true?" Purity turned to her husband and asked.

"Chima. is this true? Is Lucia saving the truth?
