Hangover

Nicole

I woke up hating myself and everything around me. My head was pounding and my mouth felt like cotton.

"Good morning, sunshine," Blake chuckled from his side of the room. I groaned in response. "Bad morning, I take it?"

"What do you think?"

"Very bad morning."

I smashed a pillow over my face before rolling onto my stomach. Blake's bed squeaked as I imagined him getting off it and I cringed when the sound of something falling to the floor only made my headache worse.

"Come on, let's go grab some breakfast."

As if I wanted to get out of bed anytime soon. He was insane if he actually thought I planned on leaving my bed at all.

"I'm not bringing you breakfast in bed, sweet cheeks," he added as if I asked him to. "I know you didn't ask but you need to eat breakfast and I'm not the one to give you that luxury. So come on, let's go."

This mother fucker apparently reads minds.

Yet I made zero effort of getting out of my warm, comfortable bed. If he wanted me out of bed, he would have to drag me out. And even then, I'd fight him the entire time. I wasn't leaving my bed. At all.

"Come on, sunshine," he insisted as his voice neared my bed. "Get your fine ass out of bed."

I turned my head to the side to glare at him through my hair. "Quit staring at my ass."

"It's right in my face and it's a nice one. It's not a crime to stare, is it?"

Well, no.

"Please get out of bed." The impatience was evident in his voice by now. "I'm starving, doll face."

"I don't wanna."

A huff escaped his lungs as he pulled my blanket all the way off and extended his arm towards me, palm up and open. I moved my hair out of my face with one hand and raised a brow at him, squinting at the bright light behind him.

"Painkiller." Was all he said before grabbing the hand I used to move my hair and set two pills in my palm. "I also made sure to hide a twenty-four pack of waters before Patricia and Justus decided they were keeping everything in their room. I'm gonna make sure you're hydrated, okay? You can call me daddy." The smirk that took over his face after he said that last part was truly the most annoying.

I scoffed and shoved my face back into my pillow.

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry for that." He laughed as he bent down beside his bed and pulled out one of the water bottles he just mentioned. "You don't gotta call me daddy, but at least let me help you get over this hangover. Starting with breakfast."

"I don't wanna go on a date with you." Being stubborn with him was always fun. "That's gross."

Even though I couldn't see him, I knew he rolled his pretty blue eyes. "I don't date, smart one. We're just hanging out and eating breakfast. That's it."

Right.

With one last audible groan, I pushed myself on my hands and knees before sitting back on my heels. My hair was a mess and it decided that my face was where it wanted to rest.

Blake chuckled before reaching out and pushing the rat's nest out of the way. Getting a little too close for comfort, his hands worked at the back of my head to twist it before he reached towards the hem of his shirt. I looked down to see one of my claw hair clips in his hand before it also disappeared behind my head. My eyes stared right into his as he struggled for a second before he smiled, satisfied that he managed to get all my hair up in one go.

His eyes met mine and I cursed myself when I didn't look away quick enough. By the time I finally managed to look down at my lap, he already had a small smile tugging one side of his lips.

"Alright, sugarplum." He grabbed my hand and pulled me off the bed, making sure I was steady before he went over to the closet. I watched as he grabbed one of my oversized sweaters out of my side of the closet and came back over to me. "It's a bit chilly out, I checked the weather app."

I nodded and put my arms through, deciding to hug it closed instead of zipping it up as I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. When I walked back out a few minutes later, I saw that Blake was just waiting for me on my bed. His eyes looked up from his phone when he heard me.

Frowning, he stood and got down on one knee in front of me before grabbing the tiny piece of metal at the bottom of my sweater. He connected both sides before he slowly pulled it right up to my chin. His knuckles grazed my jaw as he let go and I felt my cheeks warm.

If I was honest with myself, I knew I couldn't deny the attraction I felt towards him. But it wouldn't lead to anything and I knew it. Besides, relationships were distractions and endings were inevitable these days. Majority of relationships ended in heartbreak and I didn't wanna be part of that number. I had enough to deal with, and feelings towards a player wouldn't be added.

Shaking my head, I followed him out of our room and zoned out the entire time we walked towards his car. I never really knew how I always managed to operate well enough when I wasn't fully here, but I always surprised myself.

The surprise was still there when I came back to it and realized we were already beside his car. Even more shocking when I saw that Blake was waiting beside the open door of the passenger's side, patiently waiting for me to get in. He was tapping the top of his car as his eyes were glued to his phone, so I knew it was casual and he probably didn't think much of it, but it was still shocking that he opened it at all.

Once inside, I realized it was already warm inside and the engine was humming. It was probably one of those cars you could start up from afar with just a push of a button.

I was playing with the sleeves of my sweater—the ones that were too long for my arms and swallowed my hands—when I heard Blake talking outside his side of the car.

"Nah, she's not my girl." He waved off, a bit awkwardly. "It's my roommate."

"Oh, okay!" It was the voice of a girl, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from exactly. Quite frankly, I didn't care either. "Well, she's really pretty!"

"She is, isn't she?" I really wished I could see his face. "Anyway, catch you later, Natalie."

"Natasha," the girl corrected, the high pitch and excitement in her voice suddenly gone.

"Oh." He reached a hand up and I could only imagine him rubbing the back of his neck. Awkward dork. "Well, I could've went with just Nat and it would've worked out."

When he got in the car instead of waiting for a response, I figured she either walked away or he really just wanted to avoid fucking up even more.

"You're an idiot." I decided to point out as I took the liberty to lower the temperature, feeling a bit suffocated with how warm the car was getting.

He pressed on the brake and pushed the button to officially start up the car to drive. "You gotta give me props, both those names have the same nickname."

"Props for being such a whore you remember none of the girls you sleep with." I tucked my hands between my thighs. "That's... sad."

"If it makes you feel any better, I'd remember you."

I rolled my eyes. "I'm never sleeping with you, though. And it would be sad if you forgot your roommate's name. We're kind of always together now, you know?" I looked out the window to mutter, "Despite how much I'm trying to change that."

His laugh was louder than it needed to be. "You're still trying to get rid of me, huh? That's crazy. It's been a month, angel. Give up, no?"

"Yeah, no. Never. You're a pain in my ass."

"Not really much of a butt stuff kind of guy, but if that's what you're into, I'm down to try."

The horror was evident on my face, I was sure. But even if it wasn't, the smack I landed on his chest should've been enough. "You're so disgusting! I would never do such a... thing."

"No butt stuff." The corner of his eye crinkled with his deep laugh. "Gotcha, sweet cheeks. Wouldn't want to corrupt you like that anyway. Really isn't my thing."

I crossed my arms over my chest and kept my gaze glued out the window. I wasn't going to talk to him for the rest of the car ride. He'd probably turn it around and make it sexual again.

"Sooo..." he trailed off, trying to make conversation.

"Shut up."
